People say that it's a weird way to kickstart a live action JL movie without having any solo movies before this and I kinda disagree. People know about the JL cartoon, folks don't need an origin story for Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman. The JL is ten times more well known than the Avengers.

This video makes me sad. As a long-time DC fan, this movie would have been incredible and would have been a life changer if it was released. This video broke me (I knew about this cancelled project since 2013) and I still think we deserve this movie, even if the actors get replaced because they cant come back (R.I.P Anton Yelchin). this video should be named "George Miller's Justice League Mortal: The Masterpiece We Lost"

Honestly, I know that being moody is Batman’s identity. I would love to see a Batman film where he is a charismatic bachelor and businessman like in the cartoons. I feel they captured that portion of the character perfectly like in the BTAS series. He is this hot young charismatic billionaire by day and intelligent crime fighter in the underbelly of Gotham at night. Most of the time, he is portrayed as this older edgy billionaire who is constantly brooding. It would be fun to see this less moody Bruce Wayne during the day and seeing the more complex brooding persona at night.

There’s some interesting similarities with Mortal and JL17/Synder cut. From Superman and Wonder women fighting, Superman wearing a black suite, and the Flash saving the world in the third act. They also both start with the world mourning the death of one of the league members and Batman feeling partially responsible for it.

George miller was a genius for the ages. He already had set up DC with a alley oop. And should have used his script after the writer's strike instead of green lantern. The twist in the beginning of the film was genius. U wouldnt think that the flash u see is Wally at the funeral in the beginning. And the hero that died was Barry. Man what a epic way to bring in Wally. Young people don't know wally was hella popular back then in the animated series. From 2007 til now we would have had solo films and another team up movie.

I have to admit that this was really good casting for the time.

This actually sounds like it would have been a GREAT film! The most interesting thing to me is that both this film as well as the _Snyder-Cut,_ feature the Flash character having a big moment at the end where he ultimately saves *THE WORLD.* This video proves that Warner Bros are full of a bunch of cowardly idiots with no faith in their amazing IP's.

This is such an interesting story in terms of just behind the scenes of the movie because you can really see why DC's attitude now is just to make movies without caring about them treading on each other. They definitely regret holding off on Justice League Mortal because Nolan and Bale didn't want the movie to coexist with the Dark Knight series.

The fact that Denver Airport is featured in this script, already makes me happy as a fellow Coloradan.

It sounds too convoluted for one move. This story is better as a streaming show that one can binge watch.

I believe one of the animated series had the legion of Doom accomplished something very similar. They utilized Batman's knowledge of everybody's weakness that he kept to protect the world from the Justice League or any of the members in case they did anything wrong. And excellent show it was

I love it. No unnecessary "grittiness" and not overly dark (while still taking the subject matter seriously). A hopeful ending and a great beginning to a new universe. If the dialog was smart and the actors were on their A game it could have been DC's MCU level franchise, and they wouldn't have started out so far behind and eternally trying to catch Marvel. I liked Snyder's version of JL and I am very glad it saw the light of day, but the tone and style still isn't really my preference for these characters aside from Batman maybe. Preferences are like opinions though, and opinions are like assholes.

I must commend you on a story well told. I’ve heard some of this before on podcasts, etc. But this is by far the best telling of this story. You never stop to judge the choices, like certain actors, you just told the story as it unfolded at that time, with fantastic B-roll I might add. With all those motion graphics, I can’t imagine how long this took to make. Very well done!

The Flash/Barry Allen gets the best scene in the Snyder Cut ("best of the best"). The Flash/Barry Allen would have gotten the best scene in this too, had it been made ("you're in it"). Speedsters are built for dramatic stories.

If you knew the history of Warner Brothers and what they did with the Original Superman movie it's insane that any film maker could ever do anything with how the studio busts the movies around. Jack Nicolson was part of the force to get the Batman movie going and his pushing of the studio execs even offering money to Tim because he knew what was being made. One small part that to him proved it was gonna be big the posters of the bat symbol every time they went up at bus stops they were stolen.

I remember reading that George Miller had DJ Cortana, his Superman, come a few days before everybody else, so they could look to him for all the good places to eat and the hot spots , kinda like a leader. He also had Armie Hammer come a week later than everybody else to make him feel like an outsider since he was Batman. A missed classic! Damn

When I first heard about this project, I'd heard that the two writers didn't know the JL universe, and that they had to play a little catching up to get a feel or it. That sounded exactly like what happened with the first Star Trek movie: they hired a couple of guys who'd never seen the show, and they watched a bunch of ST episodes to catch up. And look what that got us - a revamping of an old ST episode ("The Changeling") about a mega-powerful probe trying to make its way back to Earth. And look, the JL writers did the same thing, just as I feared they would. They took the "Tower of Babel" story arc, warped and twisted it all over the place in order to include Maxwell Lord as the bad guy, and killed Barry, even though he was "dead"/merged with the Speed Force long before the telepathic Lord and Babel stories were in place in the books. So, unlike many others commenting here, I don't think that this would have been very good if they'd managed to shoot it (again, look at the ST debacle). They should have just hired experienced DC Comics writers to write the story, then had Hollywood scriptwriters familiar with science fiction convert the story into a script, and gone from there.

So, I actually managed to find the script for this film and read the whole thing online, and I'm gonna be honest.... it looks like it would've been a decent movie. It would've had some problems with some weird lines and some character issues here and there but it also looks like it would've been a lot of fun and visually interesting. The biggest problem to me is the fact that this Justice League film was gonna be the opposite of the MCU, where instead of solo films leading to a crossover, it would've been a crossover splitting into solos. The biggest problem with that is that as a result, some of the characters don't seem that well-developed in this script. Superman and Green Lantern are surprisingly not that interesting in the script. Aquaman's afraid of water (try to make sense of THAT), and just kinda acts like the Thor of the films. Wonder Woman's decent but isn't exactly anything huge in the script. In fact, her main running gag where the Flash keeps looking at her cause she's hot. Batman and the Flash are actually the only two characters that are actually pretty interesting and enjoyable. Batman's indirectly responsible for the mess that happens, but his motivation actually makes sense, and is actually something that I'd see batman doing. The Flash is also very good. His jokes are funny and his chemistry with Iris and Wally West are well-done. Only problem is that Barry dies by the end of the film and Wally replaces him, even though this is Barry's introduction film. It comes across as rushed. The villains are decent as well. Maxwell Lord and Talia Al Ghul each have their own motivations for doing what they're doing, and the powers that Max has are pretty cool. I also like the concept of Talia wanting to target the entire league, as she felt like she lost everything because of Batman. Only thing is that I feel Maxwell Lord's backstory is kinda weird. He's this kid who got kidnapped and experimented on to get superpowers. And he's mad at the Justice League, cause they were not there to rescue him from the experiments, even though.... they weren't even active when Maxwell was a kid? I dunno his motivation was kinda weird. You could really tell that the writing duo who wrote this script (forget their names) took directly from the DCAU for its tone and style. The way the league members communicate with each other, the personalities of the heroes, the way that its in a universe where most of the heroes know each other already, as well as the somewhat corny ideas that are in the script. For example, Maxwell Lord in this script is a restaurateur who owns a franchise of fast food restaurants called "Planet Krypton", which is literally a place that has its emotes dressed as different members of the JL, and even has the food on the menu named after them! How's that NOT cheesy? Only thing is that some lines are kinda odd (Batman's cape gets shot with bullets at one point, and he says "dammit, that was a new cape"). So overall, this script sounds like it would've been alright, but somewhat overwhelming and overstuffed with too many characters and concepts. If this film would've been made, it probably would've gotten a mixed reception.

Maybe with _"Superman Returns"..._ DC should've focused on making it a good movie, instead of just having "expectations" for it.

This actually sounds like it would have worked out well. Instead of a botched rush to catch up to MCU, they could’ve gone the alternative route and introduced a fully working JL, like the movie was just “life in a day of”, which would’ve piqued enough interest to then go back and do a backstory on each character. Genuinely shocked that a JL movie darker than Snyder’s was almost made, like Batman is still killing, Superman and WW destroying multiple cities, my god this would’ve been torn apart by the comic gatekeepers. But this really does sound like it could’ve been great. George Miller would’ve made this work, but I do hope it gets animated one day.

This would be a weird first introduction to the Justice League

It is interesting to see ideas from Mortal find their way in later DC films, as well as other similarities. 1. This one was already pointed out, but beginning the film with the mourning of a fallen JL member with Batman feeling guilty and responsible for that heroes death (also the black suit Superman) 2. Cotrona (Superman) and Brody (Flash) both were cast as Shazam Family members in Shazam and Common (GL) ended up with a small role in Suicide Squad. 3. Introducing the JL members via HUD display was similar to how the Suicide Squad members were all introduced in their first movie 4. Maxwell Lord would become the villain for Wonder Woman 1984 5. Talia Al Ghul would become the main antagonist for The Dark Knight Returns, in fact, this one, at first glance, would perhaps be a plot point taken from this movie and used for the plot of TDKR as her plot in this and her plot in TDKR are strikingly similar, her and Bruce's romance and interacting at a socialite party, her secretly being a big bad in the film, her being paired up with a male villain, and the whole plot point reveal of her playing Bruce the whole time. 6. Superman going to Aquaman to ask for his help but Aquaman refusing to help the JL is similar to the Bruce scene when he tries to recruit him in both Justice League and the Snyder Cut. 7. Another plotpoint that would appear to be saved from this script is the concept of Superman's turning evil after "Lois' death", turning on the Justice League and fighting Wonder Woman-- In fact it may have been the concept of what sparked the idea behind Injustice (how to turn Superman rogue, murder Lois Lane). 8. Mortal is obviously an adaption of the Omac Project and Infinite Crisis storyline(and I think Snyder or Goyer mentioned there were two specific comicbook storylines that gave the inspiration for MOS' ending, Omac/Crisis being one of them), but Batman's snapping Lord's neck how the conflict with Zod is resolved in Man of Steel. 9. Flash becoming Omac Ultra to become the big bad is somewhast similar (spoiler) to how Barry 2 in Flash becomes the Black Flash. 10. Barry saving the world through having to run through the Speed Force as the film's climax is also the Climax in the Snyder Cut. In fact, 4 DC film climax's seem extremely close to Mortal's, 1) the big reveal of Talia (TDKR), 2) the unexpert twist of the hero snapping the villain's neck (MOS), 3) Barry Allen saving the world via entering the Speed Force (Snyder Cut), 4) and the films hero choosing to sacrifice himself and dying to save the world (BvS). There even is a little similarity of the whole Barry Wally interaction as in the speedforce as one Flash's is about to sacrifice himself, as in the Flash movie, Barry 2,who essentially plays the younger Wally mentee type Flash and that film's climax is also about both Flashes running into the Speed Force talk sense into the other. 11. Starro would become the big bad the Suicide Squad fought in Gunn's SS film. The three plot ideas that would appear to have made their way into actual DC projects/scripts appear to be Talia's reveal to be the major villain in the film alongside a male counterpart villain (TDKR), the Justice League fighting Superman (Snyder Cut), and the shock of seeing the hero snap the villains neck on film (MoS).

I read the script and thought it was great! I just don't know if it would've worked as a live-action movie 100%. It read more like an animated movie, specifically in the style of the 01-04 show, to me. I still envisioned the all the actor's likeness for each character, Arime Hammer included, I'm sorry to say, lol. I was glad that DJ Cortana and Adam Brody got another chance to play superheros in Shazam. Hopefully they might bring Common back in if they ever make the Green Lantern Corps movie.

The script is genuinely really fun. Coupled with George Miller's visionary eye, JL Mortal would have been incredible.
