Cas Marques has been the Rangers equipment manager for many, many years including Lundqvist’s entire career, and it was recently reported that he is in treatment for lung cancer. He’s a big deal for the franchise anyway, but I think it’s fair to assume that the reaction also has a lot to do with his illness.

I am Canadian and was born and raised and still live in “the heart of Maple Leaf territory “ …I am a grandmother of 7 and I have been a Ranger’s fan since I was 5 years old. I have loved and followed the Rangers through the good and the bad…the rich years and the lean years. I have watched players come and go…seen some mighty fine young boys become men and become New York Ranger Legends (Bathgate, Giacomin, Gilbert, Ratelle, Hadfield, Howell, Leetch, Richter, Messier, Graves) I’ve seen them all play in my time! And what a thrill it’s been! Henrik is one of those Legends…he ‘s the best of the best and he exudes grace and class both on and off the ice. This was a fitting tribute to a great player and an even greater man. Thank you Henrik for 15 years of excitement…I wish you well in the next chapter of your life! ❤️🎈🥅🏒🇨🇦

Literally the best Game 7 goalie of all time. Literally the only reason we got even one playoff appearance from 06-17, let alone 11 of them. He carried NYR hockey through gross managerial incompetence and dreadful contracts comprising the rest of the roster for a decade and a half, and he joined the league late. The King.

I am from sweden and my team is färjestad and we hate his old team frölunda. But when his brother played his last game against us everyone applauded because he is amazing as a person. Henrik is also an amazing person!

This is the third jersey retirement from the rangers I've seen in my time as an NHL fan, the first being Jean Ratelle in 2018, and the second being Vic Hadfield also in 2018. Both were members of the GAG line in the early 1970s. Hits a little differently seeing King Henrik's jersey being retired as I saw the last 3 years of his career, unlike the other two which I wasn't even alive when they were playing
