I know I could be pilloried for saying this but Henry Miller sounds like a self-realized individual, warts and all.

Just read Colossus of Maroussi. I treasure everything I've ever read by Henry Miller, but that one had me staggering around aimlessly and in tears after finishing it: the spiritual energy of Miller comes through at its most profound & powerful towards the end. I was pleased to find out afterward that he considered it his greatest work too. If, like me, you've somehow overlooked it, seek it out by all means.

Was it in COLOSSUS OF MAROUSSI that he had that fantastic anti-Saturn passage? I read this book as well and enjoyed it, but nothing can ever top TROPIC OF CANCER, a work of Promethean fire.

I recognize some of the people in this video. A couple of them he writes about in his "Book of Freinds". The man that Miller is throwing a punch at was a man named Joe, whose last name eludes me, but he had been an amateur boxer and met Miller when Henry had moved out to California. He was a health nut who ate very well and took handfuls of vitamins and ran on the beach with his dog named Byron and he chased young, gorgeous women who were working in the film studios. Another fellow at the party, if I'm correct, was a friend of Miller's named Max who was a survivor of the Death camps in Nazi Germany. He was an interesting man, someone who took a big bite out of life. A Jack London or an Errol Flynn type who lived to the fulluest and had been all over the world. Henry Miller was an interesting man who had many interesting friends!

Does anyone know if one of the women is Henry Miller's fifth wife, Hoki Tokuda? I assume it is one of the girls at the piano, as she was a musician.
