My Milwaukee tools get really hot too under heavy use. It’s good to see harbor freight having a step up from their “single use tool” stigma. At least that how I thought of their power tools lol.

It's good to see that protection kicks in when it does. I understand that people expect their cordless tools to be able to draw power unimpeded for an indefinite amount of time, but unless they want to their batteries to be twice as large, twice as complicated, and twice as heavy due to being housed in a chunk of aluminum (probably also with some kind of active cooling), that just isn't realistic. The heat (energy) has to go somewhere, no tool brand is cheating physics.

As a first time owner of a Harbor Freight tool of any kind I was actually quite impressed with the fit and finish of the new impact driver. I haven’t used it yet but with all the videos I’ve watched I know I’ll be happy with it. It’s a backup for my M12 impact incase I need more power.

I built a entire back deck over the weekend, lag bolts and thick screws with zero stops no issues the sawzall today took on thick railroad ties with no breaks and it is still kicking!! I've pushed a 5ah battery to desolder one of the leads in the pack with the sawzall. Easy fix just soldered the lead back on, I suspect an initial weak solder joint from the factory. The 6 1/2 circ saw causes a lot of overheating on my 5ah batteries, I usually set them in front of a fan to cool off if there's one available at the jobsite. Quick note: my old hercules brushed impact works with the 2.5ah batteries until they are drained but the new brushless impact won't work on them when they get to two bars, even with full bars under load the lights will dim like when a you're bumping the subs in car without a capacitor. The new impact is power hungry.
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools Жыл бұрын
Thanks for providing some in depth insight. I appreciate it. I think the new tools are decent but like the solder joint mention I wonder about some of the quality control. The big benefit is that now we have a warranty to back that.

@@TinkerWithTools I own 11 hercules batteries and only that single 1 failed, but it was honestly my fault I smelled smoke but I kept pushing until I saw smoke. I just needed to get the job done. The other batteries would overheat and shut off before they cooked themselves.

Nice test but if I’m using my tools to put food on the table for me it’s Teal. I still have Makita “brushed” tools I’ve had for all of my career and they still work flawlessly. I do have many color tools but in my opinion the smoothness, ergonomics, precision and longevity of Makita sold me. On a different note, I noticed you had a Klein micro ratchet on the table in front of you. Can you please do a review on that micro ratchet. I bought one last week to try and absolutely fell in love with it, so much so that I purchased 3 more, one for the house and each vehicle, Klein hit a home run with this tool. Thanks for all you do and I’ll be looking forward to your next video review, thanks

No fair man. At the beginning you were wearing a 3.0 high output shirt, but during testing you wore a regular 2.0 shirt. Invalidates the tests. Just messing lol. Awesome tests sir. I won't be purchasing these tools considering I'm not in the line, but your videos are really well done and I enjoy watching them. It's important that these brands keep each other on their toes. Milwaukee got comfortable for a while and the subpar feedback on gen 4 proves that. Hopefully this competition forces them to step up their game.

The Hercules tools are a step up for sure and for a lot of people they are more than adequate (whether we want to admit it or not). But I agree that having a brand push the big names to do more is going to be good.

Second Post watch edit: that graph is the perfect touch. It's almost like hard data in an easily digestible format is more understandable than marketing. The symptoms of overload protection is a good sign indeed. protecting the battery, motor, and circuitry is something I'd expect from a Makita. I'm not sure if DeWalt does it to the same extent, but if harbor freight is, I think that's a win.

Well IF you're gonna use a impact for what it is intended to or meant to be then every impact driver brands will definitely last a long time but IF you're gonna use it for drilling large holes and driving large fasteners larger than timberloks then it will definitely fry and gets destroyed regardless of brands wether it's a expensive top notch brand or cheap ass brands. That's why everytime I purchase tools especially fastening and drilling tools I always buys em'in pairs, Impact Driver 1/4", Impact Wrench 3/8", 1/2" & 3/4" and Hammer Drill. I buy em in pairs. For cutting tools such as angle grinders and circular saws, Miter Saws I buy it corded, for cutting and demolition tool such as Recip saw it's either Cordless or corded. For Concrete Demolition it's either Cordless or corded Rotary Hammer Drill SDS, and either corded or Air pneumatic Jack Hammer Breaker. Always use the right tools for the right job!

Don’t think them or the new Milwaukee drill’s and impact driver’s will hold up under hard use daily. Get to warm heat and electronics don’t play well together.
