Here's Everything Thats WRONG With My CHEAP Jag S-Type

I couldn't let you guys down, a bunch of you tagged me in the Hoovie FB group saying I needed to buy this car, so I did. I messaged the seller immediately, went through another painful Marketplace transaction, but we ended up getting a deal made for the cheapest (and probably the ONLY) manual Jaguar S-Type in the country. This 2003 Jag S-Type is powered by the 3.0 Duratec, with a 5 speed manual behind it, and it's rear wheel drive! A pretty incredible package for how cheap the car was!

What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Thing is, this Jag is actually a nice car, in good shape for it's age. What you are seeing is insane levels of deferred maintenance. You can start almost anywhere and improve it quickly, like the oil leaks or getting the transmission re-attached. Suspension is more money but the parts seem easy enough to find. I have a feeling that with the right work done, you will end up with an amazing car and still be at the lower end of the cost scale.

You can buy most of the bushings separately and inexpensively. They are probably junk, but I feel like a sawzall, torch, hammer, chisels, anir hammer, and my harbor freight 20 ton press could make it work and it would buy her some time for not much money. I need to do the rear suspension arms on my Super V8 soon, but she is no where near as bad as that S-type.

I owned an 04 Lincoln ls with similar suspension issues. You can buy the individual bushings on rock auto and Moog. If you’re looking for the control arms you’ll notice a big difference in price between the first and second generation. On second generation suspension parts (03 and up) ford beefed up the suspension components due to the Jag type R. From the research I’ve done I believe first and second generation suspension parts are interchangeable.

You can get a whole load of those bushings mail order after market. Some of them are "performance" ones which may affect the ride quality but they are available, at least here in the UK. You can also get pretty cheap aftermarket whole components here. It might be worth mail ordering some stuff from the UK. As for the coolant sensor, it's not normally the sensor which is bad, it's the float. The float can be replaced but it's tricky to do, and I got a whole aftermarket coolant tank for mine for about £50 which comes with the float...the sensor is separate and clicks in underneath. It's just a reed switch and doesn't normally go wrong. When my float went out it was ok when the engine was cold but as the coolant got hotter the float would lose its buoyancy and the light would come on. 2007 S type 2.7 diesel, 2012 XF 3.0 diesel.

Great video, nothing surprising to see all those items worn, had the same issues on my Lincoln LS suspension front and rear at about 250k miles, did all new control arms and drove like new. The LS uses different lower control arm design to the Jag from 03 on, the early 00-02 models used the same. My 05 STR with 124k on it still felt like new when driving, it’s the really high mileage cars or old one that get all that wear.

I bought a 1980 380SD Turbo Diesel (30 miles a gallon). I bought it for 2K and put 10K into it and then sold it. Saw one online for 57K. I recently got a jag s type 2003 from the auction 1,600. 110 thousand miles. Slight oil leaks on the valve cover corner bolts. Valve cover valves stuck in place with jb weld glue I guess. Needs tie rods replaced. Hood shocks. Original wipers which have an adapter that raise them up an inch, no where to be found. Changed all o2 sensors. Need sparks and all coils changed. Expansion tank just cracked so ordered one. Needed to buy a big battery, the right one, because it had a too small one. And the strangest thing is that RPM fluctuates while driving when cold, something like a feeling of hold and go when driving, and it goes away 20 minutes later. I hope is not a transmission issue. But I see it as a great machine worth fixing. I hope I don't have that much parts to fix like yours

JR I could use some help. The 2020 CX-30's (2.5 L AWD) front differential, has a major problem. The fill plug has a metal bracket that partially covers it. You cannot remove the plug as it is. Could you make a video that would show how to move the differential enough that drivers could do a fluid change? Mazda fixed the problem on the 2021 and newer CX-30's. Maybe it would be possible to swap a older bracket with a newer one? So far Mazda has blown me off for any kind of a fix. The dealerships have told me that the differential is "unserviceable". I love this car so any help would be appreciated. Or maybe you know a video guy this might be perfect for? Thanks for the help.

I'm wondering if the suspension uses common Ford parts? The Transmission mounts I'd guess are common Ford parts also?

This is the problem with old Jags that havent been maintained properly, the suspension is complex & so costs a lot to rebuild (although the parts are 1/5th the price here in the UK compared to the US). You could Polly bush those arms & get decent quality coilovers to keep costs down?

I still think 2k was a decent deal. I would have bought it for that and not been too sad about refreshing all the suspension. That is a pretty high price. My S6 was like $600 for arms, links, inner and outer tie rod etc. I am surprised the Jag is that much more.
