Love your program. I own a 2009 BMW 750i and I love the car! Never had any issues with it. In fact I’ve owned three different types of BMWs ranging from the three series to the five series and the seven is the best. I do keep it maintained, change all the fluids; and you are right, a third-party mechanic is far better than using the dealership.

BMWs are awesome but be very careful when buying. Ive had mine for 16 months and just now ran into a problem but if you are unlucky you can have a big problem only a few months after buying. Get a Pre Purchase Inspection from an independent Euro mechanic or the dealer. They might be more pricey but they know common problems! Also if you can, while the car is cold check the coolant level. If there's a leak assume the whole system will need refreshing. If not now then in the near future.

2014 BMW 328i xDrive - purchased w/ around 30,000 miles on it. Almost at 68,000 miles right now. The most major failure I had was a bad turbo wastegate which was replaced under warranty (CPO vehicle). A tank of gas is running me around $40 lately, and other than that the car has been running strong 💪🏾 I just take care of it & it has been extremely reliable. The stories about BMW’s scared me away for a long time, but my ownership experience hasn’t been bad & I’ll likely buy another BMW in the future.

Used to own E60 530xi, thought I'd share some info. If you are buying used, it is really really important to know the history of the car. Why? So you can know if your BMW is going to be a money pit or not. Perfect example is my previous E60, I looked at bout 20-25 E60s before actually buying one. What did I look at specifically? Service history, it is important to know what wear & tear parts were replaced so you can ballpark on what's the upcoming repairs/replacements are going to be. If you see a clean history with minimal replacement, I'm not saying its gonna be an unreliable car but it means that you are going to spend some money on doing the replacement. To me, if the previous owner(s) did replace lots of things recently (wear & tears) = it's a great deal since the car is gonna hold up for awhile. Of course you to be smart about it, if the car had one of the less common failures known then you better look somewhere else. Owning a BMW is all bout doing scheduled maintenance and replacements, for most part the manual book covers a comprehensive info on which parts will need to be replaced at what mileage. Other than that, the BMW community has a vast amount of infos and support if you need help.

Went from a 2007 328 to a 2014 335. The 328 was an awesome car. Valve cover, oil filter housing gasket, water pump, starter, window regulator were my main failures. Car was about $900 a year to insure and it ran a lot of highway and I averaged 32 highway. Could anyone afford it? I don’t know. Water pump and starter repair was kinda high. gaskets were cheap but annoying to replace. Other than that I did regular maintenance and it was definitely more expensive than an economy car but not as bad as everyone says.

I have had my x5 e70 for about 5 months now. Got it with just under 80k miles on it. I have since had to replace the water pump and thermostat which was kind of pricey but that's what you expect on import cars. Gas is about $210 per month. Insurance for about $110 a month even though I have a bad driving record and not 21 yet lol. Overall it's not too bad compared to the comments people give. Much love from Indiana!!!

You're definitely right about choosing a manual...it's less technical, so less issues...I'm in the middle of changing trans speed sensors due to a clutch read error...which manuals don't have to worry about...my most consistent expense is definitely gas...but to me, not being well-informed has been the biggest expense(preventative rather than learning-as-you-go).

I think the car is make for intelligent individuals, as in ones who knows what they're car needs to produce for a comfortable, safe, smooth ride. I also like, how easy it is to modify or upgrade. I haven't had any issues with the car as of this moment, but I did looked into some different prices for parts for the car. Nothing to major in price range, like maybe $200 were the average cap... But it's cool, stylish, and perform great in traffic. I have no complaints. 👍👍👍

Why is the 335 (from my understanding) so much more costly in maintenance? Is it all turbo related? Isn't the rest of the car pretty much the same stuff? Or, is it that most 335's get driven harder and/or not cared for (ie. more reflective of the crowd that own them used)?

hey man, i own a 335 e90 lci and its the best car ive ever owned.. it has a little over 70k miles. i can only speak in behave of the n55 version because the n54 has a lot more issues, specially with the turbos.. the issues of the n55: the water pump, it costs about 800 usd to fully repair including the thermostat and the installation and it usually fails at around 65k miles.. the sensors (this is a problem of any bmw) they cost about 150 usd and i would say you have to replace one per year.. there are other issues less common that are expensive like the valvetronic, or the valve cover seals, it will depend of the previous use of the car.. and you have to do some upgrades if you are looking for a engine tune.. like changing air intake (400 usd), the chargepipe (200 usd) and the intercooler (1000 usd). finally the gas issue.. my mpg is about 14 in the city and 27 on the road.. my foot is like a ton. if you buy one be sure tu save about 2000 usd a year for any inconvinient and you will be fine.. good luck

So far I have put around $2,000 into the car in the past year, but most of it was not crucial to the operation of my car, rather it was me being picky with the driving/handling of the car. As far as necessary repairs, I have spent around $800 in the past year, but it was mostly broken suspension components and routine servicing such as the transfer case fluid, control arm bushings, tires, etc. Even though I could be driving something cheaper, I would not trade my car for anything else! Well, maybe a newer, lower mileage example ;)

2013 328i convertible (E93) in Jan this year - pre-purchase inspection found oil leak trace, indie shop est is $500-$700. Ran into first major issue 2 months ago when engine started to whistle w/ check engine light and limp mode - took it to indie mech who diagnosed it as PCV issue, paid $1400 for replacing PCV + integrated valve cover. This high cost gave me a sticker shock since I had not spent this much on repair in total for last 20 years on prior cars I owned (Honda Civic + Subaru Impreza). Never was a petrol head so never did DIY on prior cars, hence paid for it. Then recently, when on full throttle, check engine light goes on and engine starts backfiring, everything fine if I restart ignition. Indie mech said it's either spark plugs/ignition coils/injectors. I'm now convinced that DIY is the only option to avoid getting burnt by the high repair cost. Now watching vids (including yours) and learning more about replacing plugs/coils. Need to start from scratch by buying the required tools, BMW engine basics, then tackling the plug/coil replacement as first DIY project. Last oil change cost me $150+ at indie shop. Not sure yet if I want to tackle oil gasket leak issue.

I service at a RMI approved BMW workshop and besides the synthetic oil that is a little pricey its not that much more expensive to run then my mother's VW POLO 1.6 Car has been extremely reliable in almost 260 000km / 161 000+ miles I have had zero issues. Only thing is the rear tires do not seem to last very long. But I suspect it's a combination of South Africa's bad roads and high torque output of the oil burner under the hood. All in its a fantastic machine that I would recommend to anyone. Thanks, Justin, for the video. We really need more E90 content as its a seriously underrated car in my opinion.

1997 328i with 5-speed, 170,000 miles on the odo - paid cash for it 3 years ago, and monthly insurance is $50 (liability with comprehensive coverage - no collision). Normal maintenance (every single fluid changed, cooling system replaced, engine accessories replaced), some failures like leaking gaskets, electrical harnesses repaired, HVAC sensors replaced, dash lights replaced, OBC taken apart and repaired... I probably put about $3k in repairs/preventative maintenance, all DIY so far. Without gas and insurance added (and without adding all the extra tools I've bought over the years, enabling me to actually do all of the work myself - probably $3k in tools alone) I reckon I've spent on average $100 or less a month while owning my E36, but I probably only put about 300 miles a month on it. Edit: That being said, after working for a BMW dealership for the past year, I would say I will never buy a Bimmer newer than the E90 style. This is based my own experience seeing all of the various issues that the new turbocharged engine designs have, and BMW's long oil change intervals make me question whether I want to buy a second-hand used example with over 100,000 miles. That, and they simply don't drive with the same hefty feedback that the E90 and older era cars have. I'm not sure that I could make a 22 year old F30 last, but my E36 is much simpler.

Just got my 1st. BMW! 2010 535i XDrive, 3.0 liter twin turbo..Space Gray in color! I pay $150 mo. For full coverage here in Grand Rapids Mi..It has 164,000 miles haven’t had any major issues….YET!! had an oil leak from the oil filter cap, thought it wasn’t tight enough so I tightened it and it still leaked when driving it! Went to an auto zone and bought a New $10 O Ring for the oil cap and that Solved it!! I love this car and plan on doing as much work on it myself before ever taking it to a shop! This is only a summer car, I’ll drive my H2 in the winter! Love your videos JB! Keep it up mane!

Just bought mine in may 2021 a dark gray 328i 2010 sedan. I paid 3k with 125k miles, so far it had a fast idle had to change out the plugs that were bad. Did a few cheap mods, bought some 18inch sport wheels with a hint of red to match the taillights, blacked out side markers and side signals, got some red halo lights to match the rims and twilights, bought all black rear view mirror caps, tinted all my windows a 5% and a brow in the front. Upgraded the kidney grill to a newer model grill.
