You dont have to pick a super high trim truck though if you want every bell and whistle you'll pay the price. I work for a ford dealer and so many people come in wanting king ranch/platinum equipment for an STX price. I think best bang/buck is the xlt or if your feeling a bit fancier lariat. You also have to compare these trucks capabilities amd features to trucks of the 25-35k max new era. F 150 5.0 gets 17/22 (@395hp/470 ft/lb). The 00 got 15/17 (@260hp/350ft/lb) To compare the 7.3 international TD made (275hp/525ft/lb) 01 F 350 could hitch 13.9klb and 5th wheel 14.2k. 2019 150 can hitch 13.2k

Much better! I get the feeling there's gonna be an emergency redesign coming to the new one and especially HD version once they see sales tank. I'm die-hard Chevy, and I wouldn't even consider a new one. They really should fire the people in charge of GMs designs, marketing, and whomever is responsible for not allowing engine options without all the $70,000 fru-fru option crap! My buying used (like 2002-06 HD/best years for value and quality) certainly isn't helping GMs cause.

When I bought my 2016 LT brand new with 9 miles on the clock, they wanted $45K. After taxes and tags with NO trade, I got it down to $32K signed and sealed out the door. This guy did a good job with getting the price down. As I've said many, many times before: anyone who pays full price for any vehicle didn't do their homework. The markup on vehicles, especially trucks, is outrageous. So this owner did a hell of a job for a Texas Edition.

Love the handsome exterior on the ‘16-‘18 Chevy’s so much more than the 19’s which almost seem less aggressive with the softer lines and door-mounted mirrors. While it would be nice to have rear AC on my ‘18 LTZ, there wasn’t enough wow-factor to make me bite on a ‘19 especially when I got a 6.2L ‘18 for about 10k less! Great video as always tho, thanks!

Then went upto Las Vegas, Moab, Utah and ofcourse thru the mtns in Colorado, and straight back to Chicago in about a weeks time. A Cummins diesel engine and that Megacab are the best thing ever for road trips like this. @PETERLINNAH
@PETERLINNAH 5 жыл бұрын
Whoa! Dude, that Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) problem you mention is probably not what is happening. What you might be experiencing is just the torque converter auto lock-up cycling in and out when you accelerate at highway speeds, which is what it is supposed to do. The RPM naturally goes up slightly, which is the whole point. Active fuel management has nothing to do with RPM going up or down. I have this same engine in my 2017 Suburban and the cylinder deactivation is totally 100% seamless and absolutely undetectable unless I have the V4-V8 indicator light on which tells you what the engine is doing (I have it off almost always). Other than that you bought an excellent truck and that engine is amazing -- it will serve you well for a long time.

What the guest said towards the end stands true. You all do such a great job of explaining the vehicles that it helps the buyer have insight when purchasing a new or used vehicle. I have one suggestion, perhaps down the road expand your TFL line to include Cars and SUVs? The fast lane perhaps can also be implemented into that segment and allow you to look towards that market. Just a thought.

I have a 2016 I bought brand new with 9 miles on it. I had it tuned to delete the AFM immediately after hearing the horror stories of broken lifters and oil consumption (this was when I had about 5,000 miles on the truck). After 42,000 trouble-free miles with the tune, I have no issues. I get 17mpg combined between highway and city driving. What drove me nuts was when the AFM started kicking in WHILE TOWING, and was making the rear-end cluck going between V4 and V8 (and I tow quite a bit). With the tune, I have no more issues with the clunking. Not to mention, the tune really woke up the power of the 5.3L. And no, I don't care about voiding the warranty. I do all the work myself on my vehicles (which I love to do). So this was an easy choice for me.

@Chris Jacobs Yeah...no. My '03 was fine and I sold that with 300,000 miles. I know someone with a 2011 Silverado without AFM with 291,000 miles - no issues. And I know someone with a 2009 Sierra WITH AFM with 175,000 miles - no issues. Then again, myself and the owners of the other trucks religiously maintain our vehicles - so that may have something to do with it.

Great Video, awesome truck and owner! Honest too, love my brother-n-law but his mpg claims are a lil suspect, 5.3 Silverado 4WD gets 24 mpg’s on the highway, course that beats my lil 2.7 ecoboost by 2 mpg’s. I love hearing people complain about AFM ... I have the 5.3 w/eAssist, so 8spd transmission, and I NEVER feel the engine switching from V4 to V8. I'll purposely drive on the highway with the DIC on the fuel mileage screen so I can actually try to detect a shimmy or spike in RPM when it switches. It's flawless. Why would you not want your V8 to try and save on gas when it can? I find mine drives mostly in V4 on the highway because of the eAssist - the battery prolongs the V4 operation. Same feelings towards the Auto/Stop function. I'm super impressed at how smooth it is on the Silverado given how big the motor is. I rent a lot of cars for work and can tell you Jeep's Auto/Start tech is awful, so clumsy. My Silverado's Auto/Stop is even smoother than my Buick's with a 2.0 turbo.

Of course it affects the aero! I'm a fan of capability (like off roading) and need fuel efficiency, so I wish GM could spend a couple dollars on making the lower valence spoiler hinged (like my C5 Corvette) as they really do help the aero, but hurt the approach angle and clearance when down. I modify aero on vehicles, and it's not complicated to to this. You have the best of both worlds when this is able to be folded up and down. (Kind of like grill shutters that are capable of opening and closing). GM can't spare an extra $5 on this, as they're only profiting $20G on their $70k trucks!
