Here's Why I Prefer the Shinola Watch vs the Chinese Watch

Review Shinola watches! Message received. Here we look in detail at the very beautiful large Shinola Runwell watch. It is made from some foreign components in the US. It has a classic, clean, somewhat fleiger watch aesthetic. Along the way I'll compare it against the Seagull M22S hand wound classic watch with identical styling. Both are excellent watches but one costs twice that of the other. But will that be enough to win in the end? Nope!
Parnis classi white watches, some with sun/moon complication:

Shinola Runwell watch selection: amzn.to/2xdWtWu
White Shinola Runwell watches: amzn.to/2xhl7VU
41mm Shinola Runwells: amzn.to/2OspF2n
Awesome Parnis Fleiger watches, IWV homages for a fraction of the cost: amzn.to/2MAUsZ2

After 15 years not wearing a watch, I decided I needed a watch. I went with the Citizen Eco drive WR100. As a Tradesman I can't get to fancy as I risk nicking them up a little. This watch fit the bill. Got a quality watch I can count on without being afraid to wear it. Oh ya check out Barton watch bands! They are awesome. Quick change feature that rocks. Thinking on spending a little more for an off work watch maybe 150.00 or so. Love wearing a watch again tho.

I'm all about solar watches now. On a full charge you can literally store it long term in a sock drawer for 6-9 months and it will still be accurate as day 1. 15 mins in direct sunlight or a few hours of artificial light. As long as you are wearing it a couple times every 6 months you literally never need to worry about batteries or anything. And most of us wear watches every day and it will get more than enough light at that rate. They're amazing

The Swiss spawn all of the trends, including the larger diameter casings for men's watches and smaller for women's. They just decide what direction they want to go in or what customers want and the rest of the industry follows suit. Obviously it makes it easier to put fun movements inside of as well.

around 50% or less of the Chinese autos in the $20-50 range will have proper quality control in my experience. Some will outright be dead on delivery while the others will have fitment issues. They are what they are though, but if you can then definitely just buy a quality watch from a quality company and don't buy seven random Chinese autos like I did and then just drawer them because of the various problems. Learning experiences.

Opinel is based on traditional French shepherd knife construction going back centuries, so I'm guessing they had the design locked down first. Still, it's sharpened steel and everyone's copied each other forever so take it for what it is.

I wish Shinola would follow through with what they are supposedly trying to do. They are basically just assembling a Swiss Ronda quartz movement, which can be purchased for $20 or less, into a case, then charging several hundred dollars for it. I would respect Shinola a LOT more if they developed their own movements to manufacture in-house (in the US), especially if they developed something like a US built mechanical movement.

Have two Shinola Runwell watches. Both mm sizes. One in the classic white dial with the black leather strap. The other with the “blueprint” blue dial and veg tan leather strap. Solid watches. Runwell: named after a locomotive. Watches are well made. Great warranty. Supports the Detroit blue collar worker. Warn with pride. 🇺🇸 Price is steep. No doubt. But... unfortunately... you gotta pay to play sometimes. Buy once, cry once. If you like the style... it’ll darn near last a lifetime. 💯

I've two main issues about Shinola. First they are really overpriced for what you buy. Second, they employ American workers assembling watches from foreign parts. This wouldn't be a issue but Shinola was very deceptive initially. You're right that Tianjin Seagull movements are highly regarded and used in quite a few watches.Good video, thanks. Seagull beats Shinola and so does Timex.
