Lots of great info in this video! One thing I would say about dry firing is that, even if you do it with the safety engaged on the Rough Rider, the hammering action between any two hardened parts will cause stress to the parts and to the mechanism. It's just not good for hard parts to hammer against each other. Striking a sandwich of softer brass and primer compounds is much less stressful to the mechanism. That you have dry fired a RR 1000s of times is more a testament to the quality of modern manufacturing materials and methods than a standard for best practices.

I have this revolver with a 4 3/4" barrel and an extra cylinder in 22mag. It is very accurate in 22lr rifle. I agree with your review!! great little shooter for little $$$. Excellent video. Heritage does not recommend dry-firing this revolver even with the safety engaged. I called the support line with an issue. My safety falls into firing position if I dry-fire it once. Service Support told me not to dry-fire the Rough Rider and it would cost more than a new revolver to send it in to them to fix. I stopped dry-firing it and only load five rounds to keep the hammer over an empty chamber.

@@Getclappedboyeeee 22lr may be a little loud but it's still quiet compared to other calibers. It's not extremely painful to shoot without ear protection like other guns I've tried. I stopped in at Sportsman's today, the guy behind the gun counter told me up to 50% of what they sold last year had been returned for a defective or broken firing pin Spring (or maybe he said trigger spring. This addendum is why my post is edited) I don't own one, I'm not speaking from experience, just repeating what a guy at a major firearms retailer told me today 11-30-2022. These revolvers do have a lifetime warranty, and the man at Sportsmans said Heritage was pretty good on the turn-around time to repair whatever problems the revolver had.

I have two of these guns, acquiring the first in 2012. They're neat little plinkers for sure. Regarding the safety lever that so many knock, it allows the gun to be sold in jurisdictions that require it. It also allows for dry-fire without risking the damage that can occur while doing so with rimfire guns.

Bought the shorter barrel about ten years ago with the nicer hammer and nicer grips and maybe 5 thousand rounds and still works. Well I needed another 6.5 inch barrel with the nicer grips and hammer. Chose another Heritage. I don't care for the Ruger Wrangler. Although I do like my Mini 14 and 1022. But my Heritage .22s work the same as my Uberti Cattleman. And a hell of a lot cheaper to run through .22 than .45 Colt. And honestly you want your little guns to mimic your big guns.

The trigger spring broke on mine before I ever got to shoot it from just cocking the hammer back and letting it down. But it was a cheap and easy replacement

Always showing up to the party late. Man these prices have gone up and long gone is the free shipping on it. Paid for mine even though on sale, but it was like paying full price in person after FFL transfer, shipping and taxes. But I've got mine now and can't wait to shoot it ASAP! Thanks for the video and tips. Solidified my reasons for purchasing also.

Just bought 2 of these from PSA @ $119. (Free .22mag cylinder with rebate, still in stock on 16 May, fyi). Started thinking I might have a problem, buying 2 of the same gun I never even wanted, just on a whim. Now I think I should have bought a couple more. 😂

I have more money than what this costs in a few boxes of .45 JHP's that I have stored. Hell, I have more money in high cap mags that I will never use. I pulled the trigger 😎 and bought one today. I am no gun snob, but a sweet shooting single .22 that is fun to shoot? Sounded sketchy...but Done and done. Shooting ammo that costs .50 to 1.00+ around is painful to the wallet. And love how the shooter is forced to slooooow down and enjoy the experience. Kinda like listening to an old analog vinyl record. Things you have have been missing all along may come to light and bring some enjoyment.

Just bought the longer barrel version for 119, must be the only gun that’s not going up in price, 119 on sale of course, I think they’re beautiful for a fun gun, dies dry fire with safety off do damage? Dry fire being a good drill and all

Solid gun, I have a few. Only the paint around the part that holds the cylinder seems to be flaking a little on a couple. But I do clean the gun after every range visit. They run flawlessly and only wish the larger bore models were more widely available like these 22’s are.

Those of you who own this. When on the 3rd click, does the hammer drop when you pull the trigger (mine does, and the barrel is not lined up with the cylinder, so it seems to be very dangerous)? I won't do it on purpose, but if you fire quickly there is a very real possibility you'll pull the trigger when it's on the 3rd click...
