Sooooo I’ve owned an embody for about a week now. At first I was wondering what all the fuss was about. I got it because I ran into a great deal and thought I might flip it because I also currently own a gesture and leapV2. After using the embody for a week, I’ve realized that you don’t truely appreciate it until after using it for 2+ hours. I’m sitting at my desk for over 8 hours a day and my back doesn’t get sore like it does with the gesture, leap, or Ergochair pro. I’d say the best part about the embody is the support. It’s not appetizing at first but after sitting in it for a while, you start to understand why it is designed beyond curb appeal. The chair disperses your weight very nicely, especially if you have intense pressure points. My bottom is super bony and I have absolutely no issues with the embody like I do with the other chairs I’ve mentioned. I’m about 5’9” @155 lbs (more of a lean build) and the chair fits me perfectly. I understand why it wouldn’t be for everyone, but if it’s right for you, it’s hard for me to understand why you would sit in anything else (considering that money is not an issue). I most definitely will not be going back to the leap or gesture.

I tried both, including the Aeron B and C sizes. (I’m 6-2, 205.) I first tried the B, which felt quite good, but I found the Posture Fit SL pressure was a bit low on the spine, like at the very bottom of the lower pad, which was surprising. I then tried the C, which felt more open and less constricting. The lower seat isn’t too long for my thighs, so this is the right size for me. The Posture Fit SL mechanism was broken on the C demo chair, so I couldn’t check its pressure points. Even without lumbar support, the C felt great. I then tried the Embody, and it just felt like a basic chair. I moved around a bit, and I’m sure it flexed, but I didn’t really feel anything to be excited about. Maybe some people move and stretch a lot while sitting, but for me, the articulation seemed more like a marketing feature than a practical one. Back in the Aeron C, and the support felt special. I had just driven over an hour in LA traffic in an uncomfortable rental car, and the C was a welcome relief. When I stood up, my back felt like the rental car knots had been loosened and untied. Given that I tend to do tasks and lean back, rather than stretch, move, sit sideways, and wide-cross my legs, the C was my choice. I ended up ordering the standard lumbar support, so I can adjust it vertically. I figure that I can add some foam or a gel, if I want a bit more push from it. I receive the chair in a few days…

Awesome video, very timely considering many of us are now choosing/forced into a work-from-home scenario. I'm leaning a bit more towards the embody since I tend to move a little more, and I'm going to be using it for home studio and guitar recording so I imagine the adjustable arms and bigger seatpan allow for a more instrument-friendly seating experience. Would you say that's a correct assumption? I wish I could go to a store and try them out, but of course COVID is making that rather difficult right now!

Very well done video with excellent narration instead of just annoying music. Narrator spoke clearly an explained every option thoroughly. KZfaq composers, regardless of material, could take some pointers from this narrator. No excess babbling, good A/B comparisons of two similar items, clear and concise speech which was targeted to each item of discussion. That aside, for my bad back, I think the Aeron might be the best solution. I rate this video as an A+ for information, product description and overall effectiveness in helping me make my decision. I’ve tried both at a store yesterday and to me aeron is more comfortable period. I ordered the aeron but comparing embody to my current executive chair I bought 4 years ago my current chair is more comfortable and it’s only $300 AUD. I believe the reason why my current chair and aeron is more comfortable than embody is because the seats adjust itself as the back tilt like a rocking chair.

I don't know if it would fall neatly within the area for your store and channel, but I'd be interested to see some content on chairs for gaming. Not the racing-car seat clone ones, but ones which support you in either a more active forward tilting position, or reclined in a more relaxed position. It seems that only recently manufacturers have been taking that market more seriously. Though they don't differ much from their original models, the Herman Miller Aeron Gaming Edition, and Herman Miller Embody Logitech come to mind. I'm sure most people, including myself, don't care for the 'gaming' branding much, but it'd be nice to know what chairs there are out there which fit those needs, while remaining comfortable for long durations and supporting your back and neck in the best way possible.
@JennyDarukat

The fact that the higher end Aeron models follow you forward by a few degrees of tilt is actually amazing, it's what set me on the track to saving for one after a few visits to a local store that sells them here. It'll be a while until I can afford it, but that feature alongside the zonal mesh support is absolutely amazing - gives you back support even when you're not leaning into it, it's actually such a unique experience.

I have a Herman Miller Celle that I bought for £60 ($83) from an office closedown sale. It has the same or similar exoskeleton support and is awesome but I had to squirt a sh*t load of silicon lube into it to stop it squeaking. The Celle is not a chair you'll ever fall asleep in but the whole idea of the 'exoskeleton' is that it is a supportive chair for your spine and movement. It's unrivalled for the price (second hand.) I used an Aeron for 7 years at my place of work and, it just felt like a chair. The mesh made my suit trousers go shiny on my butt.

Neither the Embody or Aeron come with a headrest, so I'm not sure either would be a good fit for you. It is my understanding that Herman Miller feels that headrests take away from the ergonomics on an office chair, so they do not feature headrests on their ergonomic chairs. The Cosm is the only one that has a back that can also be used as a headrest because it is so tall. -RB

The best thing to do for anyone is to try it yourself in a store, because you never know if it's really suitable for your from any video review. I went to HM branch to tryout the Cosm and Embody back and forth for 30mins, in the end I went for Embody because Embody offers much better adjust-ability and more comfortable to me (best back support on Earth imo), and Cosm although looks nice, there's a "hard stop" at the end of the tilt which annoys me. First, you need to make a test drive for like a week to see if it really suits you. I took mirra 2 last week, and now i have the embody on test. I was in love with mirra2, but with the embody i'm struggling a lot to get comfortable due to almost non existent lumbar support. I get extremely fatigued back after about 2-3 hours in it. So i think all of these chairs are highly individual, without dependence on their price.

Man, finding the right ergonomic chair for oneself is a hell of process. I've already returned three chairs, two of them being the Aeron and the Embody. The Aeron has that plastic frame that hurts when your body touches it. The Embody's backrest is very narrow and didn't cover my entire back, which felt annoying. Why would they build them like that is just beyond me. Gonna check other brands, hopefully they are more sensitive to the human body. Anyway I love your reviews, they're so helpful. Thank you.

Also, the seat was a bit firmer than I like. I also tried the Zody from Haworth and found the backrest to be really uncomfortable no matter how I adjusted it. None of the Humanscale chairs worked for me either, they felt weird. I'm currently using a Eurotech iOO chair, it's got a great seat and good adjustments and the mesh feels great, but the lumbar support is too aggressive for me. The next one I'm going to try is the Ergohuman Enjoy. Cheers.

I'm looking for a new gaming chair (I was told ergonomic office chairs are better for that then most gaming chairs) and I tried out my brother's Aeron (which I believe is a Remastered in Size B). I did like it, but I didn't like how it felt like my hips were barely contained by the seat (though looking at this video it looks like its supposed to be this way. I could definitely feel the "scoop shape" of the chair cradling my outer thighs). I also didn't like the height of the back. It came up to just below my shoulder blades (like in this video) and I could easily lift my arms up and over the back without much effort. Is this how the chair is supposed to be, and is it something I will get used to? Or should I get the Embody or maybe a size C (I am 5'10" and 210 pounds, which puts me smack-dab in the middle of the B or C size category)?

No, Embody seat has weird crossover plastic under the seat that creates pressure point on the middle of my thighs and block circulation to my legs. Embody also lack of forward tilt. So you always have to sit in a lean back position.

I'm getting one used, should I go for a Aeron B(Can't find a Size C used) or an Embody. I'm 6'4" and 160 pounds(quite skiny). Also, I will mainly use it for gaming (FPS) professionally, and I kind of need to be sitting up-right between 90-110°, which one is more comfortable in this angle?
@btodtv
@btodtv 4 жыл бұрын
I think both could be nice options. I think the size B could work for you. We have someone in our office that is similar to your size and he sits in the size B and really likes it. Both chairs can put you in a forward position. The Embody comes with independent back angle adjustment, which allows you fine tune the angle to the best position for you. The Aeron has optional forward seat tilt. This will put the seat and back at a forward angle for intense tasking. Even without the forward seat tilt, the backrest will still allow you to work fully upright. Comfort is really subjective. I prefer the Embody but both chairs are commonly used by popular streamers and pro gamers. -RB

Embody. All day long. I have an embody. I have sat on both for long periods of time, and the embody is the one that felt the best. The beauty of the embody is that many of the features can be adjusted for the individual. One thing I will add to that is if you get it and you set it at your preference, don't let anyone adjust it. Because you would have to readjust to your liking every time someone messes with it. Also... pretty sure Herman Miller just announced they are working with Logitech on a gaming embody.

@@gold9994 And it should last 20 years, no question about it. My 50$ Ikea chair is going fine for the last 5 years in my kid's room and he is always using it roughly. So obviously 2000$ should last longer but that's not the point. Issue is that they have a huge markup. Taking all the material used, labour, etc into consideration. They are making profit at leat 40%. But again, they are not the only ones making people fool. Majority is doing the same. Embody is adjustable but not super adjustable. I expected their pixelated back should be fully adjustable and stronger to support mid back and lower back. You have to turn the knob to max to have a good lumbar support. They can easily come up with the price tag of 3000 and people will still say hey it's a quality chair and will last 20 years. A reasonable profit makes sense. I will probably end up getting it but that's what I feel. Why would they charge 700$ more for their gaming embody chair just for adding a thin layer of foam in the cushion? I just found one of my local retailer is selling embody for 1200 (including taxes) as they buy these in bulk from HM. So obviously their mark up is way too high. They said since embody gaming is released recently and it is still selling good they won't give any discounts on embody gaming.

@@freedom9041I got the same info on the gaming embody aswell and agree that these chairs are at least 40% higher in price than they are truly worth, I understand the warrenty is awesome, but man thats a Lotta dough. Btw my retailer offered both the regular embody and remastered aeron for around $900 but they don't come with warranties, even though they are a authorized retailer, dumbest thing I've ever heard. At that rate I'm buying the chair without the warrenty markup. So why can't we do that through the website aswell lol?

This along with the full post are exceptional breakdowns. I have the 2021 Aeron and it is very cool to sit in. It feels like it hugs and locks you in a bit better. I have sat in the Embody and it feels great, the logitech collab they did has a cooler seat material and it does feel really good, but Aeron still beats it. That said I like to sit with my legs more open so the Embody is super tempting as the Aeron snugs you in and encourages more of a closed leg position, harder to sit on a leg and/or change your sitting position. Can't go wrong with either, probably comes down to if cooling is important (Aeron trumps Embody there) and/or if you want more leg flexibility (being able to move legs into multiple positions) the Embody > Aeron for that.
