Some of these interviews the girls talk about the positives and being happy, and it's nice to hear that instead of hearing the negatives being presented here, but those positives are so often ridiculous. This interview is sad to hear, but a real eye opener. The amount of these interviews where the girls talk of how good their pimps are etc, it just seems insane. I'd love this lady to be happy, but she's honest and that's at least worth something. She's not fooling herself. Still sad though.

In this case there's a very clear sense of what might have been. She's intelligent, articulate, fully comprehending her predicament, and not in any way inherently deficient as a person. She's simply been overwhelmed by the path she took. It could happen to anyone.
@ronniemead805

NO, it could not happen to anyone. Life is all about choices. Some people make bad choices and some make good choices. I personally do not understand how any intelligent person with half a brain could allow themselves to become a street walker, putting your life at risk every time you get into a car with strange men; only to hand over every dime to some two bit sick non-person called a pimp. I would have to think about my future and how to save for retirement. I am at a complete loss; I don't understand how a college graduate can allow herself to be beaten by some monster called a pimp, and remain in those circumstances to continually be beaten.

Defacto, many of us didn’t have “parents” because they never really wanted to be for longer than a hot second and or they were just plain abusive. Sometimes having “parents” is far more dangerous than the streets. Forget all this “Stranger Danger” crap, *the most dangerous place for a child is in their own home.* See HHS’s annual report on “Child Maltreatment” and there’s the info for you to peruse at your leisure. Home is not always where the heart is, it’s also the place where hell is a reality.

I have watched a lot of these and as a heroin addict myself for over 20 years...what I have found is that women and men who do heroin are 99% abused children! Broken souls. It's not because we dont love our kids, our families OR because we want to be addicts. It is all about pain relief and escape from our painful memories and reality... to begin with we're broken and then we become even more traumatized and broken during our addictions. It is a VERY difficult drug to stop. In fact.. I dont really know anyone whose been able to stop for good. Maybe for a few months.. a year.. maybe 2 but it always seems to sneak up behind you. This poor woman had more to say before you stopped her interview and then she apologized for being "too emotional". So sad. I feel like I could read her mind. She felt bad for making you uncomfortable with her story and believed thats why you stopped her from talking more... maybe that's true buy I'd hate to believe that. Talking alone can be soo healing. Don't ever forget that when you are interviewing these broken people. You might be the first person to show ANY interest in their life story EVER. SO try not to cut them short if you can. ❤🙏

@@josephfreeman5289 even people from suburban homes with nice parents can experience trauma and abuse. True, the first time we used it may have been a choice, but none of us choose to be addicts. Heroin is so powerful, it will grab hold of someone, and never let go. I know people in recovery who've been clean for 20 years, but they still say that the cravings are a daily occurrence. She seems so gentle and soft considering her lifestyle. It’s a shame she cannot just ask for some help to have a medical detox to allow her to be a mother to her children and be back in touch with her family. Medicine exists to help addicts get over the initial illness they experience. It doesn’t need to be the demoralising experience they describe. It’s no wonder that addicts cannot see their way off the bottom because this isn’t available readily enough for them.

Truth. The sickness is horrible, and users will do anything to stop the pain. People always say "don't judge unless you walk a mile in my shoes" yet when it comes to addicts, they judge. The same statement should apply, unless you've experienced it, you can't judge someone for it.

A college degree does not make a person immune to mental illness, drug addiction, or any addiction. Academy award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman was a graduate of the tisch school of the arts in New York. He was addicted to drugs the entire time he was attending college. After graduating, he got clean because he wanted to be an a-list actor. After 15 years of being clean, he found himself relapsing and died of a heroin overdose in 2014.

The way she explains her "dope sick" reminds me of the final days of Layne Staley (former lead singer of Alice In Chains). From what I read - he experienced the same things and felt he had to keep using, not because it was enjoyable but because it literally made him NOT sick. But he had the same things going on where he supposedly sh*t himself. Very sad. I hope somehow she can get into a rehab program and rehabilitate.

I completely understand what she means by prostitution being a self esteem booster but also undermines your self worth. I never felt like men were interested in me until I started on the streets and then having men tell me how pretty I was and how I didnt "fit in" out there or belong out there, how I was "the best" and keep coming back to me or turn other girls away for me made me feel good about myself but at the same time I was losing my soul. It definitely makes you feel like men want you, but it took me a while to realize a man will say anything good to you while his ____ is in your mouth. That's the truth.

I think this brave woman has a very important message. Life isn’t black and white. There is no “choosing drugs vs. choosing your kids” etc. You can love your family and your children. You can have a well-paying job, a promising future, a beautiful house, and still fall into addiction. These people need love and support. I’m not talking about enabling; I’m talking about loving and empowering. We all deserve support, help, understanding, and second chances. I can’t help but wonder if she had a support system in place, including community support (free resources, free counseling, free meals, better access to well-paying jobs) if she would have been clean a long time ago. My heart goes out to her and I hope she knows that as long as she’s still breathing, there is hope. 💜
