The Hi-Point 995 Carbine is a 9mm PCC made the the US. It’s the cheapest PCC you can buy ($400-600 in Canada) and has firm lovers and haters out there. I bought this one cause it was a hell of a deal and I thought it’d be fun to review.

For those possibly interested in the Hi-Point 995B, there are MANY videos online that show the correct way to disassemble and reassemble the rifle. However if you enjoy drama, this IS the best GunTuber to follow!

I have read quite a lot of comments from Hi Point carbine owners that say they fired thousands of rounds thru their gun and never have done a complete teardown cleanup , they clean the bore of the barrel for lead accumulation , spray cleaner into the bolt assembly and just wipe as much powder residue out , oil it and take it out to shoot it again and it functions reliably with just that minimal cleaning

the firing pin doesnt stick out that far to strike the primer, it sticks out that far to eject the round. it is a striker and ejector in one piece. awesome guns for the money...

And yet for everything bad about this gun it still keeps shooting. It's cheap and it's cheap for a reason but it just won't stop shooting, or at least mine won't. I recommend this rifle to everyone...especially for the money. I could've bought two and outfitted them pretty good for just the purchase price of my Ruger PCC

I agree 100% Patrick. It's a PITA to disassemble and clean but it's straight blowback so I just clean it less. I've never had a failure and it's accurate enough for a range day. One thing Adriel didn't mention that I don't like is that the top rail is actually Weaver spaced, not Pic spaced so not all mounts fit properly. Adriel is right about a bunch of stuff though that I've changed. I locked the spring loaded butt pad in place and removed all the ugly things. I added some cool stuff and now it actually gets attention at the range which I find hilarious.

I have shot one of these to death and High Point rebuilt it and sent it back to me free of charge. That took 12k rounds to break it. I am almost to 8k more on it great guns for the money.

I think a little bias from the get go against the gun...I'll grant the gun is quirky, heavy, and the magazines are small (remember, the gun came out when 10 rounds was the LAW)...so the recoil pad is sprung, why mention at length, twice...don't worry about the plastic, it seems to stay on the gun, as do the pins...i do wish the firing pin was a bit sturdier, but so far ours hasn't bent, and hi point has Zero problem mailing you a replacement (they take their warranty seriously)...the break down, put back together takes a few minutes, evidently too much trouble for too many folks (hi point suggests every 1500-2000 rounds, elsewise a bore snake and wipe suffices)...the factory irons are okay, we haven't seen the need for pin point accuracy (we can ring steel at 100 yards, good enough)...the gun runs and runs and runs, that alone makes it a good gun...ours is the 9mm, ask the folks with the 10mm or .45 how they like theirs...

This is a very fun gun , I have never taken apart to clean , just barrel cleanout . It has never jammed , its fun to shoot. bought for 379 brand new. My only complaint is the magazine 5 rounds that i cant use glock mags . extra magazines are really to find? parts a nd accessories are tought to find in canada

My 995TS came with a 10 round magazine. Not sure why you had a 5 round. Also, I use a bore snake every 100 rounds or so between field strip cleanings so the ability to lock open the charging handle is handy.

@@stevegagnon1449 fair enough, but I'm sure there are other guns out here where springs go flying (NAA comes to mind)...we own a couple of Rugers, we just field strip when cleaning, but I note there are some tight springs inside...we run stock triggers on all our firearms, heavy/ light triggers part of life for us (being old, half blind fudds, we just plow through it)...

I have both the 9mm and 45ACP try thing miester they have kit so you can use 1911 (45 ACP) magazine works great
@lomparti
@lomparti 5 ай бұрын
I have the 45acp, love it and will never sell it. I tried the 1911 mag mod and on the last round I was getting ftf problems because the feed lips on the 1911 mags are at a slightly different angle so the last round would stick upwards too high causing it to get jammed when trying to feed into the chamber. Tbh 9 rounds on the hi point mags is good enough. The hi point 45acp mags are specifically designed for the pistol and the carbine whereas the 9mm mags are slightly different so they need to be crimped.

Can anyone answer a question for me about the charging handle? I just got this carbine and I put the handle in and there's around 1/4" of play left when it's getting tight. Is it normal for the knob to have that much room left to move around on the bolt? Should I be screwing it in farther? It feels like it's really getting tight with that much play left and I'm wondering how people have issues with the handle coming loose if mine is already very tight with a lot more of the bolt still left to screw in.

Side charging handle?
@JoesDreaming
@JoesDreaming Ай бұрын
@@Huntinggearguy Hey. Yes...the side charging handle. As I thread the handle in by hand, it gets tight pretty quickly. I've seen other videos where people seem to easily put it in by hand and then just snug it up with the tool. Mine gets tight quickly and there's still at least a 1/4" of space left on the bolt before the knob would be close to the shroud. I didn't want to put the tool to it and force it without knowing how close that knob should get to the shroud. When I take the bolt out and look at the threads, it doesn't look like it's cross-threading....but it seems to get very tight with so much room left to go in.

Thanks for keeping me from buying this junk.. For years I have always thought about buying one of these.. the one in 45acp or 10mm.. but every negative review I see always reminds me to not watse my time or money on it. The 4 cheapest 9mm PCC's available in Canada that I have seen are: 1 Kel-Tex Sub 2000 2 Hi-Point 995 3 Chiappa M1-9 4 GSG MP-40 9mm (they were on Bill C-21 ban list) These are all around $700 or less.. or you could spend over $1000+ and get a Freedom Ordanance FX-9, Kriss Vector, Ruger PC-9 or aJust Right Carbine in 9mm Also.. Those people saying that Hi-Point is better than Kel-Tec are Crazy - Kel-Tec is awesome - the only Kel-Tec that sucks is the Sub 2000.. but who needs a folding PCC that you cant even shoot when folded anyways?

OK Mr gun Snob, the carbine is super reliable and very accurate. I appreciate your point of view even though your country doesn't have a 2nd amendment. This is a fantastic freedom defending tool. I don't care how ugly the firearm is, just that it gets the job done. The hi point does exactly that. Good luck with your little youtube channel.
