Here's one of the older members of the Buffaque firearm collection. Purchased by my grandfather at a local grocery store in 1957 for $30, the little Hi-Standard Sentinel R-100 has stood up well. A funny little family story is featured towards the end of the vid as well. Enjoy!

I had an H&R that pinched my finger between the trigger guard and the grip each time I shot it. Sold it and found a Hi Standard Sentinel that fit my hand perfectly. Well, my wife claimed it, too, as a pasture - snake gun. It's killed its share of trash can varmints, raccoons and opossums, too. Hi Standard made competition quality 22lr pistols for several years before Sears Roebuck persuaded them to add revolvers to their line. I'm glad they did.

Chic Gaylord loved Hi-Standard revolvers. Two Hi-Standards are prominently featured on the front cover of Gaylord's famous Handgunner's Guide from 1960. The end.

The company was not as long lived as the major manufacturers but they were high quality. My first revolver as a kid was a R-101 nickel 6” Sentinel and I’ve shot it for 60 years and it is still going strong. Over the years I’ve collected nearly every model that they made. The semi-auto target pistols are works of art.

Love it, got mine passed down from Grandpa, I think he bought it at Western Auto back in the day. It was his "tackle box" pistol, he used it to scar away predators when he went fishing and keep the water snakes from stealing the bait from his line LOL.

The most comfortable revolver I've held.. and the hammer goes back so easy/smooth, it's just a nice fun pistol to shoot. And also good for small animals like rats, Squirrels, skunks.

Pretty funny, I was given mine by my grandmother as well, it was a little handgun she carried at her dress store long long ago.

Have one next to me that compares to yours. A dead ringer for yours, same barrel length, same finish, except it says R-106 on the frame. Mine does have a spring on the ejector rod. I think it was manufactured a bit later, perhaps early Sixties. I bought it used at a gun store. I saw it laying there in the display case and had to have it, especially after I felt it in my hand. So after I get the paperwork for it I find the previous owner was a woman living about twenty miles away. My wife feels like she needs a gun, I am handing this one to her.

That’s so cool that the cylinder and the extractor star are recessed for the .22 rim. And its drilled / machined with holes for the hand to push the cylinder for the next shot. Instead of a toothed ratchet. Lasts longer That way!!! The later ones went to the toothed ratchet wheel for the cylinder advancement. Sad. Also the later models added a return spring for the extractor.

It's in the touch of Grandma and the fact those grips are amazing and the gun itself is a natural pointer meaningl you don't have to necessarily aim,.with the proper grip of course.thats why she liked the iron.we liked to think of Grandma as kind sweet lil ol ladies and they are but they are also the type that were brought up in what we consider to have been hard times when in all acutely the times were relevant to me people.the little mouse was More likely a decent sized goffer musk rat .how do you know that you may ask ,well I'm on my papaw's farm been his sense 1917 and now it's mine in 2022 a d I'm sitting here with the exact firearm well exact model anyway even the same scratches from the unloading mech that caused them stalking a giant musk rat and this is my third or fourth high standard had a super matic one time from u.s. military and your right about one thing I wouldn't put some smith and Wesson and or some colts in the same class as high standard mfg .....some smiths and colts don't measure up by a dang sight .check it out do a lil research on high standard history it's pretty cool and I'm sure you'll be a little surprised. Good video great story cause or elders are a national treasure thank you very much.

I have the r100 but the ejector rod is stuck and won't budge no matter what I do. Everything else works fine, but I can't open the cylinder.

A very minor point, but with these the lock-up should be judged with the trigger pulled - it's not fully locked until then. I have handled several very used and abused sentinels and they all still locked up pretty darn well. Don't tell the person you're trying to buy one from about that though, let them think it has some wobble! ;)
