Made me smile. Ive been playing it every day for at least three years trying to nail it. Looks like I’ll need another three after seeing this. Kudos! Great feel.

Outstanding playing. This version has been my signature song on the gig since 1971. I’ve played it hundreds of times. You nailed it. Your playing and tone are spot on. I hope I can do it justice as you have. Love it!

Hi Mike, your tone, timing and feel are always spot-on! This version is the one I always use (& used) as my benchmark in trying to get the tone and execution just right - not as easy as it sounds and is always my warm up tune - after years of gigging, I'm a home player these days enjoying my great guitar collection. Really like Jeff Healey's very individual version too. Great stuff...please keep them coming 👌👍

Tone is the fingers guys. This sounds so much like the original recording.

And he's playing it on a P90 equipped guitar, not a '59 Les Paul. Very impressive.

In the era of vinyl records (the first era) there were a series of instructional records and booklets called Music Minus One. The records provided a recording of a song without the guitar solo and the booklet provided the music notation for the guitar solo. The idea was for the student to learn the solo from the notation and eventually be able to play the "minus one" part of the song along with the record. I never learned any of the solos but the interesting thing was that I enjoyed listening to the recordings of the songs without the solo. Conversely, it is fascinating to listen to Mike's brilliant rendering of this lovely classic solo without the music--sort of a "one minus music." Well done sir, thank you for sharing this.

I still have an old Ventures LP with four of their songs done "minus one." It has 3 full tracks that leave out the lead, the rhythm, and the bass guitars so guitarists and bassist could fill in the space.

I have seen many cover this with the song playing as backup. I wonder if they are really playing. With Mike he is the real deal and dam good too.

Been doing this quite awhile Mike. Hope all is going well. I guess the other one classic is further on up the road. I know it has some dead time maybe just the intro and solos.

Interesting use of a Gibson 330. New or old? I have a '63 in cherry
@mikebrookfield5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dai... It's a 1966 330.. great sounding guitar... I no longer own it though... the neck was very skinny... I found it hard to play in tune on sessions because of this, so moved it on ... a lot of money was tied up in it... wish i could have kept it though as the sound from p90s was killer... I'd say your 63 has a chunkier neck and you wouldn't have that problem...

Mike, you must have a laugh when you look at Bomanassa, or whatever it is, pulling down a fortune with a 10th of your talent.
@mikebrookfield4 жыл бұрын
Ha.. I don't mind Bonamassa being as successful as he is.. the mans defo got mega chops.. all that guitar shopping he does though is a bit weird.. it always reminds me of Maria Carey & her shoe collection for some reason... I have 9 guitars and feel guilty for having so many:-)... each to their own though..

I would learn the Freddie King version first. That is what is played at all the bars.
