A year ago I started on a WFPB diet and got grief from everyone including my husband. After a few months I relented and went back to meat just to shut everyone up. Two days ago my doctor visit BP was 186/108. She put me on BP medicine. I am determined to go back to eating plant based.

I used to hate chopping vegetables for meals. Now I do it when I'm tired of studying or can't sleep or am bored. It isn't so bad now & I always have whole plant based food to eat in my refridgerator.

Add enough sugar, salt and fat and you can make a bucket of sand taste good. Hence, I shop almost entirely in the produce aisle.

Nearly six years now on a plant based diet, but it took nearly a year to get my BP from 140 down to 120, and it was a five day fast that finally did the trick.

@@justgigi2u Five days water only (with some green tea a couple times each day just for variety). Maybe not good to do this without medical supervision if you have other health problems beyond the slightly raised BP. Hunger went away after the first day! African herbs are believed to be most effective to lower or controlling blood pressure.........African potato is good in keeping food cravings at bay "Peel the potato or scrape the skin to clean it ,then chop into chippie chunks and put in a pot .Add water to fill pot take to boiling point and cool the contents pour in a container put in the chiller and drink as ice tea instead of water from the tap .Keeps your tummy sort of bloutedlike and you won't crave for food quicker and you'll get used in drinking the mixture full cup early daily no need to starve your self by fasting days or weeks you get used mixture have medicinal effects in purifying you blood and kidney functionality filtering and cleansing .........

EXERCISE!!!! If BP stays high even on WFPB low sodium diet, just add some aerobic exercise. If I don't do this 3 times per week for at least a half hour, and really get my HR up for 20 minutes of that, my BP creeps right back up, even on WFPB. It's not 100% diet. Mostly, but you need to get that heart rate up regularly and keep it up for 20 min.

It’s insulin resistance that causes high blood pressure, we lack potassium in Western diets, our soils are mineral deficient

I'm vegan and my blood pressure has been low for years. But yesterday it was randomly high. 164 over 109. I have no idea how it got so high. The only difference in my diet is that for the last few days I ate a lot more potatos, mung bean and tofu with black salt than usual. And that day I did drink a large coffee in the morning. Other than the last few days I generally eat a ton of cooked veggies and legumes. But I'm extremely nervous about this sudden increase. It's been under control and out of nowhere it just massively spiked. Idk if it was the short term mung bean tofu and eggs...but I'm hoping to get it down asap

You can always lower your BP by breathing deeply and slowly in and out. What I have found is I don’t breathe, I just inhale. I have to stop when I remember and just take deep breaths.

I am really caffeine sensitive and I had a double espresso one day and my BP recorded 220/112, yet when I had flu a couple of years back, I went off coffee and didn't have it for three weeks, my BP went down to 120/64. Sadly, I need coffee for my night shifts and yes, I do enjoy it. But that may be your problem - caffeine sensitivity.

@nyxs60 wow I've been drinking more coffee than normal for the past couple of years - perhaps that's why my blood pressure went up! It was always at a normal level until recently... going to experiment taking salt and caffeine out of my diet 😢 hopefully I can reintroduce occasional coffee later

@@nyxs60Chocolate has similar effects as caffeine! It is a stimulant. I personally LOVE DR. Bronners chocolate bars… uuuuuuf, yum, yum! Just thinking about it, makes my brain happy. LOL. My brother works night shifts and does not drink coffee. I noticed he started taking mushroom supplements - I will ask him about it later today!

Chili (not hot sauce) pairs well with sweet (fruit, breakfast oatmeal) dishes. Try it, ground ginger, and/or cinnamon on these.

Usually 2 poached eggs on 1 slice of wholemeal toast with natural butter & diner consists of vegetables with a small amount of lean meat or chicken . We have a garden with lettuce celery onions, spinach, herbs beans tomatoes etc I use pink Himalayan salt which I believe is higher in K I have peripheral vascular disease. . Is there a genetic link? Does it run in your family.? All my siblings have hypertension, as did mum. I we are all on meds, despite good food choices. Don’t risk a stroke if trying to do it naturally isn’t getting you to a safe level. Talk to a medical professional you trust, not just some Dr (?) from another country posting you-tube videos.

@ hazel coate…….reduce carbs, healthy Keto helped me, plenty of veggies too, it’s due to inflammation, cereals and bread which are grains aren’t good and stick with healthy oils. We shouldn’t be afraid of a bit of fish and meat in moderation and don’t be scared of fat, our brains and every cell in our body needs it. Also sea salt is good for us. I feel so unwell without a bit of fish or meat, I don’t get all my B’s etc and amino acids otherwise. I feel home made non processed foods are the best. By the way plant milks have been proven to be less healthy than dairy….they just pour water over the oats for example and add vitamins which aren’t natural…..it’s really difficult as I’m dairy intolerant. To get calcium, leafy greens are good and B’s are in brewers yeast. I eat tinned fish for calcium as you can eat the small bones for the calcium. I also take d3 with k2.

@@angelataylor2049 keto dieters are morons. Carbs have nothing to do with high blood pressure. They also have no more impact on weight gain than any other food. You gain weight depending on how many calories you eat. It does not matter if the source of calories is sugar or fat. Anti carb zealots are twits. Almost everything they say is bogus.

@@donwinston I lost 50 lbs on the healthy Keto diet, I was insulin resistant and I came off blood pressure tablets,,,,,,,not everyone can tolerate a high carb diet, with me I think it was the processed stuff especially and the cereals, pasta and bread, fries etc. when I say Keto I don’t mean just meat….healthy Keto isn’t just meat…I know it’s important to have a varied diet and vegetarianism isn’t the answer! Do your research!
