I miss our Mountaineer! My husband and I had a gorgeous red 2006 Mountaineer Premier back in the day and that thing was a beast! It was the best road trip vehicle ever and easily accommodated all of our Golden Retrievers. We had 8 wonderful years with it. We bought it brand new in January of 2007 and had it until January of 2015, when it was sadly totaled after it was hit by someone who was texting while driving. We were sitting completely stopped at a stop sign and this pickup truck came flying around the corner without slowing down (while it was snowing, mind you) and slammed into us. Thankfully, we were okay and had no injuries whatsoever, but our Mountaineer was another story. They destroyed the radiator and insurance deemed it a total loss. I wanted to cry. I really wish they still made these! We would buy another one in a heartbeat. That thing was smooth as silk on the road and such a comfortable, luxurious ride. We never had a single problem with it.

I miss mine, too, which is how I found this video. I bought an extended warranty and had to use it quite a few times, but it was the smoothest ride and perfect size suv in my opinion.

I bought my dad's mountaineer from him. It's a beige premier edition with the v8. He had some fuel injectors replaced. The evap system is not working correctly but that's not a big deal. The factory radio is dim but functional. i had to do some minor repairs and oil changes. It just hit 200k. I really love this SUV. It has alot of nice features that are not even base model options today. It runs and drives well.

Had mine since 2021. Runs like a dream still, smooth as butter. My dad, who drives a Porsche, complimented the steering and suspension too :) 230k miles, only things I have had to replace is the front wheel bearings. But in 18 years, not bad.

Solid vehicle. I bought a Milan v6 for 3 grand and spent additional 1 grand for tires, rotors, pads and tune up. They are great vehicles!

Good video. Very informative. But.... 20, 25mpg?!?! Not a chance. I’ve had a 2006 since 2011 and AT BEST, it’s 19/20. Normally 16-18mpg

Tyrell Williams nothing bro mines at 430,000 now same original motor. 2nd transmission though and the first one was rebuilt once before being replaced other than that just an alternator at 180,000, and I snapped an axel doing a Burnout a few weeks ago at 429,890. Did I mention I beat the absolute piss out of it

alb12345672 yo man great find just so you know the transmissions are a big weak point. Mine made it to 150,000 but I consider myself lucky. I’d have a on site mechanic come out and check the fluid or ask for records of when it was serviced. Good luck on your buy!

I also own a 2006 (obvious, cuz of my profile picture, lol). But the better engine is the 4.6. The 4.0 V6 is an ok engine. But lacks power. I think the 4.0 came with 2010 horsepower. While the 4.6 V8 (direct from the 2005-2008 Ford Mustang GT) came with around 290 horsepower. As far as rust on the body on mine, I feel I got lucky. Because since 2006, I have no visible rust on mine. And I live in NJ where we go through the seasons. I make sure that the truck stays clean with regular car wash visits. Along with using wax. And along with that car wash, ALWAYS (if you can) make sure at the car wash that they do an undercarriage wash as well. Some car wash places have rust prevention washes. And you are absolutely right about the transmission cuz I'm on my second one. Mine went bad at 102K. I have a new one now. The transmission on the 2006 is the 6R60 6 speed automatic, which I had that went bad. Now I have the 6R80 6 speed automatic, which was the upgrade on newer models of the mountaineer for 2009 and 2010. The last year of the Mercury brand. The V6 version came with a 5R55E 5 speed automatic. The driver and front passenger seats are about the same. Gonna have them redone on mine. Also, make sure you check the power steering pump because it will need to be replaced also. And check the radiator (like any other car) for any leaks or damage, along with the A/C condenser. But all in all, it's mostly wear and tear parts that need to be replaced. And like you said, you just have to take care of it. For those who might be looking to get one, make sure you check for the rust under the body of the mountaineer like repairED mentioned here. If there's a lot of visible rust and it looks like it's eating away some of the body, DON'T BUY IT, just walk away. Try to find one with low miles. The 2008-2010 is the best choice when getting a mountaineer or Ford Explorer.

@@guyintheshado I liked that version also. But the 2006 which was the updated one, had better interior looks and feel. But for some reason, the 2002-2005 models (like the one you got) feel and look bigger.

im looking to buy one i found a 90k milage no accident. great exterior and interior. little skeptical about it because of the 90k miles and its american car but i test drove it and it was totally fine and sounded good any idea if it is good to buy for another 100k drive on it for the next 5-6 years ?
@repaired21067 жыл бұрын
They are good. BUT! This is very important : When you buy these or Explorer: Heat the car up(just let it idle, or drive) for 20-30 min and then shift from D to R and back... and see if it kicks HARD if it does, I would pass... if it kicks little bit then ok... Ideally it should not kick at all!
@kyleburton73945 жыл бұрын
@@repaired2106 correct! Explorers are known for transmission issues. I have one and it's been through 3. Granted one was bad when I got it but still.
@thereal1loudmerc3355 жыл бұрын
I know your comment is a year old. But if you still going to buy one (if not already) stick with the 2008,2009, or 2010 versions of the mountaineer. They have low miles, but make sure that no rust is visible, like repairED said.

I just bought one of these and it's clean like someone kept it in a garage. It has the powered running boards but they are not working. they had them set to off and i put them on and they do nothing. I need to grease them up to see if i can get them to work. The one i bought has no cracks chips,dings, a few light scratches on clear coat that should buff out. the one i bought has the navagation radio that holds 6 cd/dvds. it also has the rear dvd player. 157k miles. Mine has the power back seats and the one won't go down i need to look into ordering a new motor for it. the one i just bought is the 4.6l 24v. it's also a 2006. black leather looks great. i found the drivers side floor mat in the back but the other floor mats were missing. has 157k miles.
@thereal1loudmerc3355 жыл бұрын
Yours must be the 2008 2009 or 2010. I wanted that option of those running boards.
@CEDAR-ii7yz3 жыл бұрын
at least you can have heated seats while the frame surely gives one day from rust hahaha

The transmission will go out long before the rust gets it. These are nice when they're only a few years old. Then they are a nightmare.

repairED The SOHC is made in cologne Germany, the 5R55E in France. I have the original sticker somewhere I will see if I can find.i have a 2005 xlt 180k miles, replaced solenoids. It's a tank though, compared to what they sell today. MSRP was over $40k, still worth the $ to buy a good used one and fix up a little.
@thereal1loudmerc3355 жыл бұрын
@@repaired2106 yeah he's right. The 4.0 you have is known as the Colone V6. Built in Cologne Germany. The engine was also used in the Jaguar S Type, the first gen Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln LS, Ford Falcon (sold in Australia), Mazda pickup. It was even used in the discontinued and old, Ford Aerostar.

That's not high mileage
@Ichibuns6 жыл бұрын
A vehicle is considered high mileage at 75k or 80k miles. Once you compare two of the same vehicles; one with 80k and one with 30k. You'll notice a huge difference in sound, power, and smoothness of the engine.
