Today's video is brought to you by our friends at Vedder Holsters: tacticalhyve.c...
Retired Navy SEAL Dorr demonstrates the high-ready and low-ready rifle positions. Often, newer shooters debate about which one is better. However, both have a time and place with their own respective pros and cons. Shooters should know how to use both methods effectively and should be able to switch from one ready position to the other without issues.

Army vs Navy.... there are valid points for both versions. I'm a Army veteran. Can confirm Army cadre get touchy about live rounds, small arms. Navy sailors, SpecWar are in more confined spaces, CQB type areas. A sub or ship 🚢 is not fun to wave guns about....

I like both methods, low ready my go to for safety reasons, plus coming up the target is never blocked by the muzzle, high ready does

Thank you for making these videos. In a country where much of the population uses guns regularly, it is important to know how to properly handle our firearms, because despite them being used so casually, they are still machines of death. Thank you for helping to provide the general populace with knowledge necessary for handling firearms.

Sean Ryan has talked about low/high ready some and about an advantage that high ready has when kicking in doors is that when using high ready for room/house clearing is that the second man on the train has less wait time for bringing his gun to a firing position

What’s your favorite way to short stock the gun in CQB? Low port with stock over shoulder, or high port with it tucked to your forearm and just bring it back?
@dorr600
@dorr600 Жыл бұрын
I don’t really have a favorite way to enter the room. Breaking down under or over the shoulder is good for the 1/2 man. As a 3/4 I just come in at high or low ready usually. It really depends on threat level.

Richard Marcinko had a seal team 6 member shoot his teammate in the back during training. It was because they were cross training on M9 Barretas and double action Smith& Wesson revolvers. They had just finished training with double action on the revolvers and switched to the barrettas which they usually fired single action. One guy's trigger control wasn't on point and squeezed off that was eventually fatal. Marcinko was extra pissed because he couldn't tell the victim's mother what had actually happened. I believe this is explained in Rogue Warrior or Red cell. Love the content! Especially you and Coch reminiscing. Y'all have grabbed the torch from Larry Vickers and are taking it to new heights.

That occurred in the stack with an mp5K. I was told while training there that a short guy shot the tall guy in front of him while at high ready. He should of been checked up. That tragedy occurred a little over 40 years ago. Marcinko had moved on by Grenada in 83. Thx for posting.

I was unaware of this Demo Dick story. I WAS aware of Marcinko himself was shot thru the neck, torso by a hapless SFOD1 guy. 😕 SEAL 6 was cross training with a group from Delta, ✈️ hostage rescues. A Delta Force member fired his 1911a1 & the 230gr FMJ went up into the cockpit, thru Richard Marcinko's chair. Exited his neck. The .45acp did little damage. Marcinko was NOT happy. 🤬
@v.german11b

@@tacticalhyvecadre1049 Actually, in his book "Rogue Warrior," Marcinko related the incident as occurring during a training exercise. One of the Seals was carrying a Beretta M9 with the hammer cocked and accidentally shot a teammate in front of him. Marcinko clearly stated that it was an M9, not an MP5.

Great content. We weren't allowed to do high ready US ARMY 96-04, we obviously figured it out once we actually had to do it Given you train, safety is always first thing and I get that shit happens and instructors were on catwalks but come on, cameras people cameras, why if safety is your big thing are you going to have people potentially exposed to ricochet or ND. They can see the same things with good cameras in the safety of another room🤦‍♂️
@dorr600
@dorr600 Жыл бұрын
👋 JW, You can’t teach and keep people safe from the next room looking through a camera. Being a SEAL or someone who is as like minded and capable is a very dangerous job. Trust in one another is required at that level. Yes even in training you have to take risks and believe in one another, so we do. I don’t recommend allowing this for anyone not in a full time unit that spends months a year training for CQB type operations.

Is the High Ready and Low Ready carrying positions ,a doctrinal thing of the Navy SEAL Teams and Army Special Forces ? What I mean , Dorr, is that I have studied Tactical Hyve and other KZfaq Videos featuring different Units , while conducting CQB Drills , that, either/ or , use a High Ready or a Low Ready carrying position. Does it have to do with close quarters confined spaces , such as GOPLATs and vessels , during VBSS, or, Land Warfare, etc. ? Just asking, Dorr.

I’m going to concur with you that it’s not a ready position if it’s not I contact with the shoulder. That’s why I prefer to call “high ready” “high port.” I really don’t think the terminology is something to get wrapped around the axel with though as long as someone understands the difference between “patrol ready” and the actual low ready position. Another thing to consider is sometimes high port is a safer position. If you’re on the second floor of a structure pointing down to low read could be dangerous to people on the floor below, and vic versa. If you’re not confident you can consistently keep your booger hook where it belongs take that into account, but also train more, please.

For the love of gawd thank you for showing a CIVILIAN APPROPRIATE low ready. I’ve only ever seen instructors do the “low ready” that has them looking directly over the top of the rifle. I’ve been teaching people for years that this is not correct for 99% of situations a civilian would hold a rifle. Imagine grabbing your rifle and walking around your house with kids, wives in the home or carrying it outside your home for what ever reason and walking around literally pointing the same thing at everyone that walks in front of you. Another great video.

To each their own but the low ready when talking about its use in the real world doesn't have a consistent placement of the muzzle below the belt line. That dogmatic view and methodology was developed for the square range. The low ready is a fluid position that is dependent on the target and target area. What if you are covering someone positioned higher than you? I.E. you are on the first floor of a building, and they are above you, say like on the second floor. Or, if the person that's being covered is at a further distance from someone that's positioned closer. This changes where the muzzle is positioned. Food for thought. Or not.

Dorr, quit being politically correct. We Navy guys have always been trained high port because of confined spaces shipboard and having that weapon in a position to be used as a bludgeon is quite handy. Low ready was only good for going down ladders. lol
