@@cricketcoop2038yup. My mindset is they're all dumb for banking everything on this single thing, ESPECIALLY the ones who wouldn't graduate if they failed. Even then if you're gonna depend on the study sheet at the very lowest least SHOW UP! 20% grade for attendance is not something to just shrug off. At least show up even if you're not gonna put in effort and depend on what they were treating as basically a cheat sheet. Don't know the timeframe between the mid and final term, but that's a big chunk to just shrug off so you can go party.

The fact that everyone told this girl she "caused them" to fail is so wild. She was literally just attending the class, she's not obligated to help other people who don't even want to be associated with her.

Right. If it’s a 20/40/40 deal and you got a 75 on the mid, I’d think you’d be doing everything in your power to bump up that attendance score. Like the curve can help a bit, but really get the easy points.

@andyp4437 Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. And those who do not atone for their sins can not be forgiven. It can even be argued that by willfully "forgetting" their bullying past, they are, in fact, continuing to bully their victims. And even if they truthfully could not remember, a decent person would apologize for any hurt or pain they caused another when reminded of it, if only to help alleviate another's suffering and help their healing journey.

The one thing I took away from being a lifeguard as a teenager was that, when it comes to seizures, I think of two things, and two things only: “Don’t constrict the movement, but protect the head.” One of those things I never thought I’d use, but lo and behold, my younger brother had a seizure in the garage in front of me not six months ago. We never knew he was epileptic before, but that phrase was the only thing in my head, and I feel like it really made a difference

I went to school with someone who developed narcolepsy or some other condition in 7th grade. Everyone was convinced he was faking fainting to get out of class to the point where no one would try to catch him when he started to faint to “prove it”. I was in several classes with him but didn’t sit anywhere near him so couldn’t try to catch him either. It took him fainting and hitting his head on the radiator for everyone to realize he wasn’t faking it. So yeah, maybe just believe people because it’s really not hurting you that bad and if they are faking it they’ll get bored of it after a while anyway 🤷‍♀️

@@echotango4591 I feel less empathy for the doctors and more empathy for the fellow Narcoleptics who spend 10-20 years on average suffering before being diagnosed. Cataplexy is the likely symptom OP's classmate was experiencing when he hit his head, but most doctors don't even know what that is (it's present in type 1 Narcolepsy). OP and the reddit story TERRIFY me. My neurologist diagnosed me with psychogenic seizures - which aren't epileptic but are a real unintentional episode usually brought on as a trauma response. He was about to end the call about my results when I suggested cataplexy and THANK GOD got referred to a half decent sleep specialist. Given there are so many conditions going undiagnosed that look kinda like seizures AND given people with psychogenic seizures are devastated at diagnosis because they feel guilty for *unintentionally, unconsciously* "faking" (and there's no treatment besides trauma therapy) I don't care who they are - we need to give people the benefit of the doubt.

@zaytin1 I'm a white person. However, I briefly dated a Korean-American boy once when I was 21 after my bf broke up with me. Didn't consider this going anywhere serious but omfg.. He was really immature and took pride in drinking and driving.. Like you're a psychology student at Emory why would you put that in the line? And told me I needed to shower more. I didn't stink, but for some reason me not showering twice every day wasn't enough. And made some comments that were just like... wow you don't understand how women work do you? Needless to say, that was an interesting experience.

My father has frequent seizures, diagnosed by a professional, he always closes his eyes when it happens and can recall if someone was touching him during the episode. in fact when one of our family friends were riding in our car when he had an attack, the friend tried to help by hold his shoulders down (a panic induced impulse to seeing the seizure I guess). when he recovered from the attack my dad told him not to do that because when the episode is happening it becomes a very scaring feeling and being pinned down only makes it worse. We mostly just protect his head or arms from hitting anything near by, or hold his hand until it stops.

General info: if somebody is having a seizure DO NOT restrict movement or put anything in their mouth. Put a pillow/shirt/anything soft under their head to mitigate head trauma from convulsions. If you can, try to put them on their side to prevent aspirating on vomit. If you’re there at the start, try to time the length of the seizure and tell EMS when they arrive. Remember, many times seizures look scarier than they actually are. Just do what you can and make sure emergency services are called and on their way
@alisaishere
@alisaishere 11 ай бұрын
Epileptic here. No need to put anything under the head, just move tings away from the body. If you try to move their head to put something under it, it could do damage. Also, if the person has epilepsy, just monitor for safety, time the seizure (if it lasts longer than 5 minutes call Emergency Services), after the seizure, roll them onto the recovery position (look it up, it's a fancy way of placing them on the side), if the person has difficulty coming out of the seizure also call emergency services. As they wake up, you can ask them simple questions to help the brain make connections again. But with people you know have epilepsy, please don't call 911 for me. I'll recover fine on my own and don't want to pay for the ambulance ride and spend time going to the hospital and back just for them to say oh, you have epilepsy, so you had a seizure. I don't need an ER trip for something I know I have, unless it's one of the two things I listed above, prolonged seizure or struggling to come out of it.

Licensed Nurse here, Shayne is correct on the protocol for seizures. Don’t put anything in their mouth, like a spoon or especially a finger unless you plan to loose it. A seizure is essential neuron overload and that overload could cause their jaw to clamp shut beyond normal strength possibly biting your finger off or breaking their teeth on a spoon.😅 After getting them to the ground safely, the two big things is protecting the head from injury, laying it on your lap is fine, and airway protection including removing tight jewelry or clothing around the neck and turning them in the recover position if they start to vomit so they don’t choke. Stay with the victim and don’t hold them down, let the seizure happen. Many times seizures resolve themselves. Do be ready to orient the victim after they come too because confusion post seizure is common.

@@C0ttonEyes That is correct! The big thing people don’t realize is that a body that is fully seizing holds nothing back and doesn’t follow the normal movements of the human body because all your fine and gross motor skills go out the window. All movement is random in direction, speed, and power. If your hand is stuck or held down and you yank with only your torso at full force and your actual arm and shoulder is relaxed, it wouldn’t be that hard to dislocate your shoulder. I think many people don’t realize how violent seizures can be. I guess they want to think of it like Parkinson’s which is very different. I’m sorry to hear about your sister, I hope she’s ok!

I just gotta share this, I literally experienced the exact opposite of the "accidentally dating my bff" story. This was like 3-4 years ago, I (m, 23 at the time) was still in collage and had a "gf" (f, same age) , we were together for like 6 months. One day, seemingly out of nowhere, she ghosted me for a whole week. I messaged her "what's going on?" multiple times, at last she replies with "what do you mean what's going on? We don't have to talk all the time". Mind you, we talked/saw each other everyday for that whole 6 months. We did more than talking actually, we called each other "honey" and stuff like that, had sex every chance we got, went on dates multiple times a week just two of us, said "I love you" all the time to each other, she was staying over at my house more often than not, and I met her sister (close go her age, we hung out together sometimes) and *they were introducing me to her sister's friends as her boyfriend* . She was introducing me as her boyfriend to her own friends too, of course, but having her sibling do the same thing just solidifies that a little more, you know? But, after the week of not responding I mentioned, she started to say we were just really good friends, I misunderstood her intentions, she said "I love you" to me in a friendly way, the sex was just like a friends with benefits thing, etc etc, and straight up denied ever calling me a boyfriend, despite having done so a million times. I was never gaslit so hard in my life. I guess at some point she got bored and wanted to break up, but girl, just say "this isn't working, let's break up". Don't try to convince me I'm delusional and just imagined the last 6 months of my life 💀 Like, near the end of our relationship, she used to talk about how she wanted a small wedding if we ever got married. She would talk about every small detail of that wedding. Who tf dreams about a wedding with their friend?

Some people can actually tell before hand and get to safety like sitting down or out of the shower ect. Which honestly is AMAZING! My son also has absent seizures where it looks like he's just day dreaming or staring off into space but he's actually actively seizing. It's just not a whole body seizure. Also with drop seizures, It makes your body go limp.. So for instance, my sons last seizure he was sitting down and because of that his head flopped forward and cut his airway off.. He's slammed his poor face into desks and tables and he's busted his nose,he's hit his face on the bathroom sink cuz he was brushing his teeth at the time.. I TRY to not think about what if I wasn't home or in the shower or anything when my baby stopped breathing.. It happens and sometimes they person doesn't make it.. It called SUDEP. Hey, just a nursing student but as far as the seizure thing goes, DO NOT support any part of the body or hold anything down, first thing you should do is slowly get them on the ground, turn them on their side so you help them maintain their airway and they don't inhale any spit, then clear the area of anything hard that they could hurt themselves on, then put something relatively soft and flat to elevate the head off the ground, something like a pillow is ideal but in a situation where that's not possible use something like a hoodie or a jacket that's folded up, finally if they have glasses on take them off, that is all you should do if you don't have further training. Hope this helps, sorry if this has already been posted somewhere else.

Sticking your hand in the mouth of someone having a seizure to grab their tongue sounds like a great way to lose a finger.

9:28 a classmate used to do this. She used to write a study guide for every exam and before sharing it she'd ask the class to gather a certain amount of money and after paying her she send it in the group chat

I don't have many comments about this episode as most have already been said but I will say that I do love when they reference the stories and smosh related things in the episode. I don't know why but it just always make me laugh. It probably has something to do with the fact that Shayne's laugh is so contagious.

This is easily my favorite Smosh segment. Still waiting to hear from the pregnant mom, who found out her husband and bff were having an affair.

Dude the story about the twins and swapping places gave me such a bad feeling in my stomach. I know this isn't really near the extremity of the reddit story, but a long time ago I often fell victim to a lot of scenarios where I would be having a nice long conversation over text with a friend, only to find out a different person that I didn't know had been using THEIR phone. It always left me with a strange feeling in my stomach like I almost never knew if who I was messaging was who I thought they were. Often it lead to times where I had to ask "Is this really you?" if I noticed my friend acting a little differently over text. It may appear as a silly joke to them, but having it occur more than once is pretty concerning.

I had this acquaintance in high school that I was trying to talk to I had something serious going on and he had offered support (it was a family health matter) but half way through our text conversation the person said they were another one of his female friends. It honestly made me really mad and I called her out on it and that friendship didn't go to far after that.

This has happened to me, I met a interesting friend on Facebook and either they lost their phone or account or something cuz when mentioning the name to them on the phone number message texts they didn't know what I was talking about and said I'm not that person you named.

That last girl did nothing wrong, and the fact she said "that's on me" with people thinking they're dating because of her actions makes me so sad. People always assume men and women are dating if they're close, so she was destined to lose on that front. She's not the one spreading lies. I want to let her know she will be okay. When she said that he grabbed her arm I was hoping she'd say someone would step in since they were in public. I had too much faith in those bystanders.

It's always the "nice guy" until you tell them no and next thing you know you're a giant tease and whore. My manager at my job did this and people genuinely thought we were together because we were friends outside of work. When i finally heard the gossip and confronted him he proceeded to bully me and make my work life hell. He went as far as to start touching me without my permission and harrassing me outside of work because we hung out in the same social circles. He ended up quitting and disappearing for awhile and reappeared to apologize and explain he had a mental breakdown and wasnt himself. I was young, dumb, and naive... id just had my first kid and against my better judgement, forgave him and continued the friendship... only for him to do it AGAIN six months later. Long story short I moved states and changed my number and deactived my social medias. He had gone around saying i was selfish for denying my child a "potential father figure" and telling him no again. I never gave this man any inclination i was interested and even said i would never date him because of his view on women and their role in men's lives.
