As a girl who looks like a "weird kid", I honestly really wish people would talk to me. I can't talk to other people if they don't talk to me first (severe social anxiety) so I pretty much just sit alone all the time and it sucks

My advise is to not take school too seriously, but don't slack off. Have fun with friends and classmates and hang out, but do your work and don't go to either extreme. Do things in moderation. To a large extent, school is what you make of it. If you're struggling in class, get help. Don't be afraid to ask your teacher for help. Even if you think your classmates may think that you are "stupid" for asking a question, who cares? You want to get clarification, how is that stupid? If you're too shy to ask during class consider asking before class, after class or during a prep period. Its for your benefit. Chances are that some of your other classmates also have the same question but are also too afraid to ask for the same reason. Use whatever resources are available to you: your teacher, your book, classmates, tutors, friends, family, the internet or any combination. Find what works for you. Don't get caught up in school drama. Its stupid and nothing good usually comes from it. In that same vain, don't get too involved in social media. It is a great way to stay in touch with your friends and family, but it can be detrimental to one's mental health and self-image if you put too much emphasis on it. This may sound rude (some of you really need to read this), but seriously who the hell cares if your posts don't get many likes? Who cares if that popular guy or girl gets more likes than you do? Who cares if your crush didn't "like" your post? Its just a meaningless number that a lot of young people view as a competition and a value of their worth. Some of you are in for a rude awakening when it comes to social media. I'm not being condescending but it is important to not focus on those numbers. Remember that a lot of social media is fake. You usually only see the attractive pictures that the people chose to upload. The ones that they want you to see. They may seem happy in that picture, but deep inside, they may be dealing with difficult things. Be proactive rather than reactive. If you know you have a project due in a few weeks, take the time beforehand to plan out your work. Make a plan of what you need to do for your project and set timelines and stick to them and get the work done. This ties into good time management skills. Don't procrastinate. Its easy to put off that project you have several months to work on. "I'll do it later"; I'll do it later" you say. Then "later" comes and its the night before it is due and you're stressing out trying to get it finished. Not a good idea. It is hard to break out of this cycle, but you just have to do it at some point if you want to do well. You may be able to pull it off last minute, but is all that stress worth it? Develop good study habits. It may be tricky at first, but can definitely help you in the long run. If you're reading a chapter, take effective notes. Don't copy the page word for word. Read a section and summarize it. This will force you to critically think about what you're reading to make sure you understand the material. Notes are for your reference and benefit. Make drawings/diagrams to visually represent processes or information. There are many study methods out there; you just have to find what works for you. If you need to jot down notes, do it. If you need to read different sources to understand the material, go for it. Or you can take the easy approach and do the bare minimum. Your choice. If find yourself getting stressed out or angry with homework, take a break. Look at it pragmatically as opposed to emotionally; Your judgement and critical thinking can be impaired. Go for a walk, watch a funny video, or listen to your favorite song. It doesn't matter what you do, but just take a break to take your mind off of it; just make sure you don't "forget" about the assignment. Once you feel that you have calmed down, look at the problem logically. Identify what you already understand (or "get") and what you don't understand (or don't "get"). Use that as a starting point and focus on the stuff you don't understand. Often times books don't do a great job of explaining concepts, especially with math. Sometimes you have to see different explanations or methods until it "clicks". Use whatever resources you have at your disposal. Once you get that "ohhh... I get it now" moment, you instantly start feeling better and let out a huge sigh of relief. Don't fall behind in your work. However if you do find yourself falling behind, again, be proactive rather than reactive. Some of you are in for a rude awakening. Crying on Instagram or Tiktok about how much your life "sucks" because your homework and projects are piling up isn't going to help at all. Instead of trying to get people to feel sorry for you, use that time to actually catch up. Make a list of the work that you need to do and organize and prioritize the assignments - it could be based on points or due date or however you want to do it. Put down the phone, turn it off if you need to, and get to work. Take breaks if you need to and get the work done. Sometimes you have to make compromises and tough decisions. You may need to study for a chemistry test because you're on the verge of failing as opposed to hanging out with your friends Saturday night. Sometimes you may need to make decisions that can determine whether you pass or fail a course. Or maybe you need to make a decision that can impact a relationship or friendship. On the contrary, you may decide to say, "Fuck it!" and go to that party and not study for that history class. You may end up failing the final or miraculously passing it. They are your decisions, but just be aware of the consequences. Take responsibility for your actions, or lack of action for that matter. Part of growing up is being responsible. If you made a mistake, own up to it. It may be embarrassing or people may loose trust in you or you may have to fix it or pay for it or otherwise make it right. Sucks but actions have consequences. Again, rude awakening for some of you. Don't play the victim and don't blame others for your mistakes, inaction, or choices. If you were partying on a Sunday night instead of finishing your history report and end up getting a low grade, that's on you. As embarrassing as it is, own up to it. Your parents may not be happy with you and you may get grounded, but again, that was your decision. On that same concept, don't try to BS your parents. They can usually tell when you're lying to them. Unless you have a very good reason for lying, its best to just be honest with them. Be honest with yourself, stay true to yourself and have fun. Its just high school. It will be over before you know it. Make friends, have fun, laugh, make and mend friendships, learn and stay safe. Enjoy your last few years before adulthood. Before real life and real responsibilities. Do with that what you will. P.S.: Don't believe that you need to buy all the things your teachers tell you in the syllabus for their class. Teachers are notorious for claiming that you need to buy hundreds of pencils, hi lighters in every color in existence, millions of flash cards and post-it notes, etc. You don't need many of those things. The supplies that worked in middle school will likely work in high school.

High school survival list: 0. Don't over think high school, it's really not as bad as we are trying to picture it. 1. Don't look for trouble 2. Mind your business. 3. Don't skip class at least do not make it a habit. 4. Self-care this include exercising (get into shape), take care of your body (shower, put on deodorant, and have a good skin care routine.) 5. Make good friends. 6. Know what you want to do after high school. 7. Always remember to be yourself, do not change who you are to please others, because there really do not care about you. 8. If you have a bully in your school, do not be afraid to report it, and do not try to fight the bullies yourself. 9. Be cool with everyone you never know what someone else it is going through. 10. Remember to have fun, school is what you make of it. 11. And last and final, always remember that high school is just a part of life, and it won't be forever so whatever happens , just accept it for what it is and move on, because life has its own plans for you , you might not like it , or you might like it , so your either accept it and move on, or be stuck trying to fight it . (Good Luck guy you got this.)
@skye2707
@skye2707 10 ай бұрын
I disagree with number 8, If you are getting bullied, its preferred to put some resistance to the bully even if theyre 10 times stronger than you. The bullies would probably prefer an easy target that does nothing to defend itself rather than someone who atleast tries. As for reporting people to a teacher, the best thing they can do is probably call their parents for the first time and since bullies usually come from a fucked up place they would beat you up either way.

My advice, don’t wait too long to try new things. For 3 years I never bothered with clubs or sports but in my last year I did and I had so much more fun. Even though I was juggling work, volleyball and keeping 80-90s, it was still a good time!! Joining leadership programs where you can go out and volunteer is also super fun. You get to explore your local community and help out. One time we helped at a book fair and as someone who loves reading, it was amazing :) also getting involved with managing your field trips / class outings is super fun, making suggestions and budgeting 😎 you should definitely try to get out there. I was very introverted for the majority of my high school career but the last year where I tried to get out there was the best. I saw another side of my peers that I hadn’t known and consequently became closer with some of them because I didn’t just see them in class. + cool plus for somethings is that you can travel to other provinces or states for competitions, field trips or outings depending on what you chose :)

I graduated from secondary school last year (high school for you americans) and i gotta say that making actual lasting friendships is probably the most important thing. I have about 6 great friends that i got to know there (i also have other great friends but those are outside the context of school) and even now that i’m in a different university than them (voluntarily, because i wanted to meet new people) we still talk every day in our group chat, plan activities and our vacations together and in the weekends when i’m in my hometown i go to the gym with one of them. So yeah, make actual friends is the message.

School ended for me in 2022, which is crazy. Not going back to school where I socialized for 99% of my life at this point. The truest thing he said is that your friend group will shrink as time goes on. It just happens to everybody. Seniors just don't have time to socialize like they did in freshman year. Also stay out of the bathrooms.

All you really need to do to survive highschool is - Turn in your work and maintain decent grades - Make a couple friends that aren’t all that bad - Get involved in stuff after school - Try to have fun Also, you’re most likely gonna do stuff like skipping class at some point, but just don’t make it a habit, and if you do make sure you do your work at least.

going into my junior year in a couple days and tbh i’ve had a pretty good time so far. my personal life hasn’t been great but thankfully school isn’t crazy stressful for me. some advice i’d give to incoming freshman: don’t go crazy over your grades, especially for the first two years, colleges really dgaf about anything that isn’t from your junior year. i’m not saying flunk all your classes but don’t pull all nighters and drive yourself insane over classes that ultimately won’t matter. second, if you smoke weed/have edibles, make sure you’re in a safe space and you absolutely trust the person giving them to you.. i’ve never had a bad experience but i know someone who got some from a stranger which turned out to be laced with fentanyl and they had to go to the hospital. third, have some hygiene. take a shower and carry around deodorant at the very least. this might seem obvious but i cannot tell you how many times i’ve walked past someone after P.E and they smelled like bounce that ass. it’s just common courtesy atp. and for all my girlies, waking up at the asscrack of dawn to put on a full face everyday is NOT worth it. i can’t stop you and honestly props for the dedication but school is already nasty af and on top of that ur gonna have sm makeup on your face and it just doesn’t feel good at all. i used to wake up at 5 just to do my makeup and it was hell. just put on some mascara and concealer and some lipgloss and you’re more than good.

@Burdie I would appreciate it if you could pin this 🤷‍♂: TLDR: Self-improvement is KEY to succeed in high school. If anyone has specific questions or wants advice just reply to me and I will try to get back to you asap. (gym, socializing, bullying, etc) Guys, PLEASE start self-improvement ASAP, even if you are in middle school. This will get you ahead of your average bracket and you will literally live life in "easy" mode if you are ahead of the average dudes in your age group. It will be easier to talk to girls, make more friends, you will also have more confidence for any life scenario, overall you'll just feel like "The MAN". This includes socializing with "good" ppl (don't go around w wannabe gangsters or ppl who smoke and stuff... not a good idea). Go hit the gym hard, eat properly to grow, and try to find ways to make money on the side so you can get yourself nice things. Plan out your time so you can get over all the BS homework and you have more time to focus on yourself. PS: you will most likely get rejected multiple times by girls... but don't stress it out. It will hurt since it will probably be your first heartbreak, but you are maturing very quickly and some months/years afterward it won't really feel like a big deal. Just keep working on yourself and max out your looks (focus on what YOU can change, your body weight, muscle, haircut, etc). This is the best way to get revenge on a girl that rejected you and will make it easier to get the next girl that you are interested in. PS: I regret not joining any sports during middle and high school... I had a hard time developing social skills since I stayed at home pretty much all of middle school and only started to go out with close friends in high school. You don't "have" to join a sport, cuz trust me, I understand if you really don't want to join a sport since it can be difficult for introverts since you can get teased a lot. If you don't like sports get busy with something that interests you (like the video said). Gym, music, sports, clubs, all of that are good things to do if they interest you. PS: WATCH who you hang out with. There is a saying that you are the average of the 5 ppl who you hang out with. This is very true, stay away from people who will use peer pressure to get you into bad habits like vaping, drugs, sex, etc. Hang out with people who will bring positive things into your life, topics like talking to girls (or rizz 😂), making money, and whatever your interests are (cars, music, gym, etc.). This will keep you away from bad habits that will fuck you up later in life. Last thing for now: School and your future career. I know that we all hate school since the system is fucked up... but at least try to hold decent grades, it will help give you more opportunities outside of high school. FOCUS on what you LOVE to do. and try to focus your classes on that single thing. It can be medicine, business, law, engineering, etc. Don't waste time with random courses that you don't really need, get over the graduation requirements asap, and then look for programs where you can learn about the career that you want. This will help you stay motivated with homework since you are working on a subject that you actually like.

That’s some amazing advice frl… and as a female in HS atm if you’re trying to get a girls attention, a lot of women like men who have great hygiene. Smelling nice, keeping nails clean, deodorant, clean hair and clothes. I know a lot of guys who think it’s cute to do poor in school; don’t feel embarrassed to like a certain subject, or certain hobbies that ur friends might find corny. 9/10 girls will like that about a guy, if he has hobbies, passions, and goals. I couldn’t agree more w u tho; focus on yourself before trying to focus on anyone else ‼️‼️

My little brother is in 6th grade and will be in middle school when I'm a senior. My advice I would give when he goes to high school is to join the theater program. Theater is underfunded and understaffed and the more students that join, the better. The senior/junior "leadership" for theater is almost always pretty chill. Popularity won't be an issue cause the whole point of theatre is for everyone be ridiculous, be crazy on stage (basically no one cares how you act, just if you try). Plus, these Theater kids have very strong connections with every type of student, especially the popular kids. Otherwise, sports and clubs never hurt, you can always quit after the first year if you don't like it. I know, me personally, Cross Country converted me from an 9th grade introvert to an 10 grade extrovert, but it's not for everybody. However, I wasn't a fan of the swim sophmores/Juniors (Now juniors/Senior) leadership. Like you had to know them personally, or have a sibling who is a friend of these guys, to be friends with these guys. I just tried to do well in swim so I could be partially recognized. However the seniors (that have now graduated) were once again really open so it does help balancing the whole experience of the swim team...

After I walked out the door they had their phones out and were recording. These girls were probably a year or two younger than me. I asked “What the fuck is you’re problem?” and their jaws dropped. 0:38 I really wish that was true, sadly I go to a rural-ish school where pretty much everyone already had friends since elementary school. Thankfully it did sorta work out anyways, found one girl in my class without friends that I befriended in first grade/the freshman year. Then we both became third wheelers in another group, so eh. Edit: We also didn't have any extracurriculars and we had the same students in most classes, except for the third language class which was tiny, like 5 students tiny. Other than that highschool is pretty boring, but not the worst. Definitely an improvement from middle school at least, those were my worst years. I'm still happy highschool is almost over, even if it's a bit sad how little I did during these years, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.

About to do one more year than I’m outie. Tips is Don’t vape or smoke bud(if you do try to control yourself) Don’t try to fit in with the popular kids. Just be yourself Try to make friends with a lot of people. Unless they’re weird or bad or sum, it never hurts to know somone. Get your permit your sophmore year. So that way you can drive to school junior and senior Do a sport, or something after school. Study. Not a ton , but just enough to be a little above avarage. Unless you wanna be like valedictorian. And fill up on credits your freshmen, and sophmore years so that junior and senior you get to go home early or go to school late. At the end of the day school is school. Not every day is gonna be the best. But you’ll always find days full of enjoyment.
