The nozzle can now be positioned much better without interfering in the tool change process. This was fun and really easy to install and setup, still waiting on the sensors to come in so that the macro knows for sure that the rotary actuator is in the correct position.

Well done! There's nothing quite as satisfying as solving that kind of problem with a slightly off the wall solution that works incredibly well. Am I right?! I just did something similar with my dust shroud and a couple air cylinders resulting in doubling the number of tools I can fit in my rack. I'm happy to share... since I'm going to steal your awesome idea :)

@@portlandscott Nice, yeah now that the coolant nozzle moves out of the way I've been toying with the idea of adding a dust shoe. To work with the ATC it would have to either raise itself up or swing forward like the nozzle does now.

That's very cool. Did you source all the pneumatic parts to operate the ATC functions separately or as a kit from a CNC parts suppler?

Now it's an absolute joy to use and I'm a bit burned out from modding it, the tool rack and macro were a lot of work. It's always fun to make the machine better but it's not so great when there's hours of work left before the machine is ready to cut again. I can't show what I'm usually machining but I have some personal projects lined up that I'm excited to share soon.

@akren2482
@akren2482 3 жыл бұрын
Very nice! No criticisms here, but curious why not go for a programmable nozzle height to accommodate different cutters and depths of cut? HAAS have a simple implementation of one for reference. Omitting this for cost and simplicity are fine answers of course, but your CNC is one of the best 6040s out there so I wonder why not?
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
The programmable nozzle would be far more complicated to implement. Whereas this rotary actuator was just a single output addition to my M6 a programmable nozzle would probably involve modifying the post processor and learning much more about UCCNC. Ultimately I'm not trying to make the machine more "advanced" but just safer to use, I had a few butt-clenching moments with my nozzle position during a tool change and this was easy solution.

Could you possibly share your M6 macro? I'm in the final stage with my CNC and The ATC rack on my CNC machine is working the same principle as Yours (pushed by pneumatic cylinder), measuring after tool change should be the same, even the fixed probe is the same, so I think I could manage to adapt your macro to my machine (it is too difficult for me to write my own macro from scratch) :) It would help me a lot . Thank You!
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
That's the plan, I'm in the process of adding boolean values so you can enable/disable features in the macro like the pneumatic tool rack, various sensor inputs, this new air assist actuator, etc. I'll probably release it alongside a video of me going over it and explaining. Btw nice screenset

@Xenomorphin1
@Xenomorphin1 3 ай бұрын
You need a totally different spindle, called an ATC (automatic tool changer) spindle. It needs air lines to clamp / unclamp it, you can hear it hissing. They are a lot more expensive than the random chineese ER20 collet type ones though.
