Making a simple part. 6061-T6.
Had a post-processor issue where it's supposed to turn on both M7 and M8 but doesn't (if anyone has the fix for the fusion 360 uccnc post lmk). As you can see a lot of time is wasted now on the spindle start/stop, I"ll see if adding a braking resistor is possible.
Excited to try out thread milling.

Very cool, do you have the M6 macro available somewhere for the to changes? I am finishing my router soon and using ucCNC.

Kind of like the Datron ATC, I like it, they have a whole top assembly that pops up for tool change to keep chips out. Some versions of theirs also include the touch off probe in their box as well.
@NikitaLab

Yeah only problem with their machines is that the Neo with the options I want is $100K+. I'm working on adding a touch probe to the tool rack while also keeping all 8 tool holders. I've been getting away with not having a need for a cover. Maybe when I upgrade to a bigger frame and move everything over I'll put together something nice.

@@NikitaLab My point is exactly, this isn't a $100k machine!

Yup I try to improve every aspect of the machine besides the 6040 frame, so they all my work carries over to the next machine when I need it.

Yup, I've tried a few different aliexpress vendors it all seems to be the same shit so I buy the $15 ones. Any advice on how to prevent the collets from getting stuck inside? I've tried oiling them it doesn't help much. My next idea is trying out collet nuts that you put the collet inside first (they're called captive collet nuts or something like that).
@EngineeringSpareTime
@EngineeringSpareTime 3 жыл бұрын
@@NikitaLab Yes, the trick is: You have to use a wrenge that fits inside the slot of the collet nut - just 1,5 mm thick. When you unscrew the collet nut the wrenge will pull the collet out of the cone. I just built one out of sheet metal, has to be quite strong stuff though Do not oil them! They have to be dust and oil free for maximum clamping force actually. The benefit of this design or type of collet nut is, that the mass is more in balance - usability at higher rpm..
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
@@EngineeringSpareTime you're right, just tried a different wrench that came with these tool holders and it reached the collet inside. Thanks

Which steppers you have now, servos or hybrid steppers? Have you tried RS485 control for spindle? Pretty high rpm...chip welding.

Hi Nikita! I really like your videos and I am also learning a lot from them, as I am new in the CNC world. Just started using the UCCNC software and I was wondering if you are using a custom theme/plugin as the interface of uccnc in this video looks dark and nicer!

Really great performance! I guess you have air dust seal on the spindle. Any idea how much air it consumes per minute?
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a number for you but it isn't bad at all, currently using a 1.2HP - "2.1SCFM@90PSI" compressor and it's keeping up.

Nikita, how would you compare new servo motors with old ones (I believe steppers), torque are the servo provide more? What OZ rating were you old ones?
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
old ones were 270oz and would skip steps at speeds above 4m/m so that was my limit, also acceleration was low at 320?(forgetting what the measure was) vs the new servos running at 17m/m and 1500 acc. The 270oz never skipped a single step on me during cuts.

I wonder if you could have it turn the air on for probing the offset after a tool change? Might help prevent debris from potentially affecting it in the future.
@NikitaLab
@NikitaLab 3 жыл бұрын
So it actually did turn on but the flow wasn't high enough to deal with the sticky chips from the blue painter's tape. I've upped the flow, hopefully that'll be enough but I don't plan on running parts unsupervised with this workholding method.
@CheeseduckClaire
@CheeseduckClaire 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it looked like it was a bit of blue tape, but it also didn't seem to make too big a difference with that part. Thanks for the reply! :)

what's that tape you have securing the metal down?
@NikitaLab

Painters tape on the face of each part and super glue between the two surfaces. You can heat the metal parts (with a torch) to help weaken the bond and release.
