There are so many different aspects to beekeeping. And you have such nice equipment at your disposal. I never had all that when I learnt woodworking. Some episodes remind me of when I was little and my dad watched bob vila every weekend. Very nostalgic. Wonderful video.

I loved seeing how you made the work go faster with little devices to help keep the assembly uniform and fast. It was fascinating to see how your mind worked out the best way to do each stage and taught me about wood working too! Love your bee keeping videos, but these are wonderful too. Keep them coming!!!

Great video of your woodshop. Quite the array of tools you have to use. Your jigs for the top and frame is a great idea and the one for the drill press. I take it that the "moulder" is a machine that does the work of a planer and jointer at the same time. That's way cool. It's nice to see such a well laid out shop, very professional. I've been binge watching for a week now and just love your videos. Thanks for all you do, with the bees and with the shop. Blessings.

i realy enjoy your videos friend. You make me build my own behive's!!! I already have 4 beehive in the field. I live in a island whit 400 km2 so there is not too much land here, but on the other hand there is no bee desiase like varroa, locus etc. Only thing we found here is the "bee louce". my grandfather was one of the first carpenters to work with shapers and make the knives.he used to go around the united state helping companies set up and operate the machines. he would tell me about them but i could not see it in my head. showing the moulder or a version of the shaper now i see the knives finally. its nice to see a master craftsmen at work. i dont suppose you make bee pallets, i sure would like to see a video on making a sturdy bee pallet

Smart setting! Liked this a lot. I'm waxdipping (just started this year) and hope I am doing the right thing. Since I live further north from you, in Sweden, I like to bring warmth by using black coloured rooflids. I coloure it by "Shou Sugi Ban ", burn and bruch. Then down into the waxdipper. I really liked your setting! I was hoping to see you at Kamons conference, but covid is on the rising and I do not want to get stuck somewhere at stopovers during my flight from Europe. Let your sunshine smile shine upon anyone close to you. Lot's of love from Sweden!

It's very uplifting seeing you do all this work for your bees. Read a news article today that really had me down. Two boys destroyed an Iowa honey farm toppling 50 hives over into the snow killing some 500k bees. These two boys also broke into the utility shed and destroyed a bunch of the equipment.

Well I must say it’s quite a bit more elaborate than my setup but essentially it’s the same process. As you know I am on a much lower volume than that but for me it’s as much fun building as outing them to use. Even hand bending the metal is getting streamlined as I develop a process. Thanks for making this. I’ll keep on watching as long as you’re making more.

I though I was looking at Grizzly Adams when you first popped up. That beard is looking nice. Go ahead and schedule me for all next week on the machine. I'll start sewing my monk outfit so I can blend in.

My favorite weekends are the ones in which I build bee keeping equipment. My shop is the open air in front of my shed. It takes me about 20 minutes to lay out the tools. Cutting and assembly happens on Saturdays, priming and painting on Sundays.

I really enjoyed seeing the process of constructing the lids and would love to see more videos from the wood shop. It would be interesting to see the process of constructing a casket, for instance. I'm curious about how the monks got into making them, & would enjoy a video about that and about the Abbey's history more generally. You make really interesting & well-made videos and are an excellent teacher. God's peace to you.

Great workshop. Any chance of you making a Video on how you guys build Caskets? As a Luthier (now retired) and amature Cabinet Maker (when the Wifes extended jobs list allows me time in the shed🤣) all aspects of woodworking fascinates me and I would love to see what goes into building a casket.

Hi Mr Edd, why not putting a little fence on each side of the press drill when drilling the ends? Have you thought about putting insulation on the outer covers? I did it to mine and worked very well for me here in So Cal, can get really hot and that helps a lot, not too cold here but I bet it would help for that too.

Did you use Luan plywood? How long were the screws you used? (1.5" or 2") Why did you not glue the corners of the frames? I watched this years ago, but now I need to make 10 to 20 covers and find it useful. I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and skills. Blessings

Awesome shop Mr Ed, also liked the revolving lid assembly jig. Do you ever do rebate joints on the lid and box joins, I do and then glue with poly urethane glue, and ceramic coated 8G 2" square drive screws. Then I oil base under coat and oil base top coat. We found structural steel silver paint rolls on easy and is durable as a top coat. I haven't got into spray yet. Our lids are a bit different here in Australia same style but not telicoping we use steel cam lock straps to tie all the assembly together so teliscoping gets in the way when load on a truck best if all fit flat side to side. Mainly using weathertex HD MDF bottom boards but I use some sheet metal bottom boards no worries. Some cold frosts over winter but work ok, best to use wood and I have one Poly Styrene which does really well. I see no sense in plastic except for nucs of maybe high quality. If I was a bee I would protest plastic boxes LOL

Another great video. Wish I knew someone with that kind of equipment lying around! :) Question: why did you pain the sides before the roof board was mounted? The sides of plywood are the most absorbing, and by painting them too you'd make it less vulnerable to rain driven up under the metal cover by the wind. Just thinking out load...

Get a metal break ,bend your own lids.You can get a small break cheap on line.

Mr. Ed, what make and model of the stapler are you using these days for making telescoping tops? Im having a hard time finding a stapler that will reliably penetrate either aluminum or galvanized steel trim coil. Also, what is the contact info for the company you have making the metal lid for you, we would be interested in buying them pre-formed from them as well.

Morning Jeff. My curious little brain has a few questions, if you wouldn’t mind answering. What type of casket does the shop put out? Decorative or Unitarian? Are you involved in making the caskets? Does the church sell or just provide the caskets to the indigent? Do the caskets meet the requirements Louisiana has for burial? What happens if there is no burial vault for the recipient? The closer I get to actual dying age the more I wonder about the various practices folks follow. My husband has instructions to cremate me and spread my ashes on the family ranch in Montana. He’ll probably end up scattering me in the corral amongst all the cow poop, lol. I won’t care I spent a good portion of my life helping out in those corrals. Just don’t spread me in the chicken coop, I hate being in chicken poop/coop. Well time to feed the zoo and get some tea, I’ve got a gallon of my favorite mesquite honey to add to it and my toast to start my day off. GB Kate

Sir, it has been like nine months since you made these bee boxes. I was curious if you plan to make more this year if so I would love to support the Abbey by purchasing a beehive. I think that would be a great way for the Abbey to raise fund to support the bee project.
