In today's episode of High Steaks the guys taste test Japanese and American wagyu to see which country produces the superior steak. Will Japan or America come out on top?

First episode I've seen from this channel, and almost done watching the rest. This is by far my favorite one. A nice and leisurely pace for proper conversation with interesting topics, though the longer episodes you've made have had excellent conversations. The steak is there and is definitely exciting, but the conversation takes center stage.

I really liked this episode, and I like seeing that they not only focus so much on steak too (even though that's kinda the why they're there lol). The topic of alcohol interested me though because as someone who lives in Europe, and as someone who has been of legal drinking age for about 1,5 years, I think it has a lot to do with how you were raised. I was raised by parents who enjoy a light drink ever so often, especially on the weekends, but there was never a conversation like "you wanna try a drink with us?" even when I turned 18 (aka legal drinking age here). they've never said I can't drink per say, and I think it has to do with their trust in my ability to control how much I drink etc. and my ability to know when to stop. But I do feel that temptation to just go out and get really drunk at least once. That was my long conclusion lol hopefully someone enjoys to read this.

In my experience in the UK, alcohol is introduced at a young age through parties. I remember that people start drinking properly around 13 years old, even though the legal age to buy alcohol is 18. You are either of the two here either not really interested in alcohol or love it. But because it's introduced so young it's kind of a part of the culture of lots of drinking parties, and I'd say it doesn't really slow down for a lot of people until late 20s @HighSteaks.

I work in a bottleshop in Australia. We have something called Small Batch Learning that we are encouraged to do by our bosses to learn about different alcohol types and brands. For every lesson we complete, we receive a "badge" and I currently have over 200 (most in my district) Matt, it sounds like you don't like the burn from drinking dark liquor. I'm the exact same, which is why I prefer to drink Gin. Dark liquors (Rum, Whiskey, Bourbon, ect) are aged and flavored in barrels that have had the insides charred. The char has a number of effects, but one of them is that from the char comes Vanilla. And it is the vanilla that causes that burning in your throat. When I found out about this, I tried to find dark liquors that had been aged for less amounts of time. The one I found that became a personal favorite is Chivas Regal 12 Year. Which is a Scotch Whiskey Blend. I hope this was helpful (I also hope it was accurate, it's been a while since I read up on my liquors...) (Also, you said you like Gin, I would highly recommend Four Pillars Gin and if you like flavoured Gins, I would recommend Four Pillars Shiraz Gin and Malfys Gin. These are personal favorites of mine.)

10:25 Depends on your price point. Since you don't like Whiskey, you probably don't want to go expensive so Elijah Craig or Eagle Rare are probably decent options on the lower end of price points. If you don't mind going a bit more expensive Japanese Whiskey will likely be more tolerable to somebody that doesn't like whiskey since it tends to be less harsh.

A fun bit of information regarding why the smell of the steaks cooking, especially ones as fatty as wagyu, reminds you of McD's french fries :) "McDonald's in the US did use beef tallow (fat) in its fries but replaced it with vegetable oil in the 1990s. It does however use "natural beef flavour" in the oil blend that the fries are cooked in before being frozen and shipped to stores around the nation."

Don’t know if you guys really care about Sobriety? New brand of Wagu : Amerigan Wagu Steak. Tased finest to the average American. You gotta love the sound of that Sizzle such a beautiful sound. Almost as beautiful as a harp sound.

Hey so Brit here, we can legally buy alcohol at 18 but can drink it technically from 6 in our own homes. People do go crazy but we do it more at like 14 then clubs at 18, most people start drinking age 13-14. British drinking culture is slightly different tho cause we have pubs etc. as well as bars and people drink here a LOT like there is nothing really to do past 8pm on any given day if you don't want to be somewhere that serves alcohol. I wouldn't say our relationships with alcohol are really healthier than Americans cause I've known people get their stomachs pumped after parties etc. just a lot of Brits can drink a lot of booze 😆

Those whiskeys you showed Matthias were great. I'd also recommend a few more if you're interested: Buffalo Trace (He's probably had it, but it's a good one if you're new to it) Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey and Single Barrel Rye are both fantastic High West Bourbon or Rye Those are all lower/middle end that I think would give him good variety and that Bryan would also potentially enjoy!

In Denmark, kids from 16 years old, can buy up to 16% alcohol, and when you turn 18 you can buy anything. So most people start drinking at 15-16. You most likely just need permission from your parents.
