React to the episode about forcing draws with Toya Akira's 4-game simul and Hikaru's 3-game simul please! How hard is it to actually do that?

My favorite part is when Sai says that he can’t teach Hikaru more and Hikaru asks why. Sai says that he is so much stronger that even when Hikaru finds the right move he can’t continue on the path because Sai will know what to do, so Hikaru will think that it was a bad move and so he will not play it next time, although he should. This is so true for so many things in life. Just because the result was bad, it doesn’t mean that the idea was bad.

Wow, the Korean voice acting for this is pretty spot-on! It captured the essence of the original Japanese version really well in each character. Hi Yeonwoo, is this your first time seeing HnG?

Uhhh, I am so ready for this format :O And maybe could you review the final of the school tournament arc? It is still one of my most beloved scenes when Hikaru is about to lose and Sai has his thoughts about how bad it feels sometimes to just be not good enough. To have to realize, that you need to become stronger, to beat the human before you, but you don't know if and how you may do that.

It was fun to watch your reaction! I think my favorite part was when you talked about the game itself and what you were able to understand about the progression of the game by looking at the placement of the stones. As a person who watched the anime with no understanding of the game, I found that the music cues told me that SOMETHING HAPPENED... but I never understood exactly what it was.... so your commentary about "white is losing territory here" was just so super satisfying to hear. Honestly, Hikaru no Go is my favorite anime... But sometimes watching hikaru no go is like watching an anime without subtitles... you get what's happening in general, but not specifically. So, I guess what I'm saying is, if you want to attract non-go players through reactions, then injecting your specialist knowledge of the go world and the game would be something I would personally be totally there for!

The reason he is shocked and says honinbo shusaku at the end is not because he recognized the style of honinbo shusaku! Only the very best players in the series really pick up on that nuance, like his friend that watches sai online all summer. This guy said that because Hikaru said his level was like honinbo shusaku at the beginning of the match, and he recognized the strength was so far above his that he sat there in awe wondering what to think.

I find some of the games interesting especially since Sai played low Chinese in this video which for what I've read wasn't played until 1963 interesting he playing opening which wouldn't have been common at all during his era.

I read Hikaru no Go years ago (like 20? ouch I'm old). I've never watched the anime though so any episodes would be fun.

This is one of my favourites episodes! BTW, you probably know a novel by Sung-Hwa Hong called First Kyu - there are a lot of different bannegi (money games) scenaries, including rather crazy ones featured in that novel... I always wanted to know is bannegi a real thing in Korea nowdays or was it real in the past...
