Your vid made me realize how FEW female-led YT channels I have found dealing with overlanding/outdoors. Great to see the women going out on their own to adventures too! Love the trailer, thanks for the tour.

Thanks for the video! I have the Hiker Extreme-Offroad I love it and have been all over the US with it. If I can recommend using pantyhose instead of screen for your AC prep. It keeps even smaller bugs out. I also put a thin piece of wood between the mattress and door so the mattress and bedding doesn't get caught up in the door.

You almost lost me in the beginning as I thought this was going to be about how you threw your back out. I came back though and this was a fantastic video! I'm currently doing research and think that the Hiker is the right move. Your simple layout is exactly what I'm looking for as well so thanks for the tour!! PS Loved your mom/daughter journey 💗

I think one of the coolest mods I’ve seen in binging Hiker videos is not a slide out galley shelf, but one that attaches to the edge of the middle shelf and folds up over the galley opening. It folds down and is secured by an L-shaped brace inserted into the rear hitch. Now that I’m thinking about it, you could also do it like a drop-leaf table and allow it to drop down to close off the bottom area of the galley to help keep bugs out when you don’t need the table. I don’t have a Hiker yet but my brain is in full gear in plans of getting one eventually! Nice video. You are inspiring! Keep up the good work! Adventure On!

Excellent video and a lot of very useful information and experience. Thank you for posting. BTW, you should not be jerking on that handle at the beginning of the video because it is a good way to hurt your back (take care of your health).

We bought the AirStream Basecamp a few years back and there really wasn’t that much useable space. So, I sold it for a rooftop tent and I am happy that I did. I am now considering a small teardrop/square drop/adventure trailer. Mostly for organization/storage/and a nice dry place to sleep. It seems the prices for these trailers are all over the place. Hiker trailers let you customize exactly what you want without paying for all the stuff you don’t really want. So, I watched your video and the Hiker Trailer seems well built and inexpensive. I will definitely consider purchasing a Hiker Trailer as we plan to go to the Overland Expo in 2024. Thanks for making this video.

Very nice. We had a hard time dedcing between Hiker and Runaway, but ended up with a 6/8 runway. We're both taller / heavier and having a nearly king sized bed is just amazing. We do have AC and we're really thankful for that too. Our 10 year old has a roof top tent mounted on our camper's roof racks. We also have a 8x8 awnings on either side. We also bought the attachable rooms for each side. We usually just attach the one on the driverside if it's just us. It's our kitchen / bathroom / changing room. If my son comes with us, we'll put the other one up for his room... so our little 6x8 camper can be 20x8 when it's fully opened up! We got our rooms from Ironman 4x4 and I'm pretty sure they'd work with your awning, they attach to the poles and go up very easily. Might be a good consideration for you instead of adding hooks and things to make a pvc room. It also adds a nice shelter in poor weather and with the heavy duty zip in floor, we've never to worry about getting stuff wet in there.

Thanks for the recommendations! Those rooms look really useful-I hadn’t considered them as an additional sleeping space… I was looking for the cheapest solution, frankly, but now I’m really tempted 😅. And yeah, there have been times I really longed for an actual AC unit. Sounds like you have a pretty epic setup!

Great video! I’ve been looking at these little hiker trailers for a few months and watching all the videos that I can find. I love that you are keeping everything pretty simple. I would do the same. I have a nice frig in my van and would want to keep it there so I can use it if I’m doing day trips away from where the trailer is parked. I have two Jackery’s -a 1000 that I mostly use for the frig and a 500 that I use for everything else. I like that you take your power bank in and out-I would do the same. Your video is the first one I’ve seen that doesn’t have the galley all set up as a kitchen but I really like how you’re using the space!!! Also I have the twin size mattress just like yours and it’s just me and my dog. Would you recommend the second door if you’re just going in and out through one??? I would push the mattress to one side and have a tiny camping chair. Great video!! And fun to watch 😁😁😁
@5ft1adventures
@5ft1adventures 10 ай бұрын
Ooh a fridge sounds dreamy. And yeah, if it were just me and my doggo, I’d definitely use a narrower mattress and use the extra floorspace for a chair or a space to stretch- love that idea! Maybe even setup a little desk area in there? I wouldn’t need the second door as long as I still had the open galley (my house burned down many years ago and I’m all about that double exit safety). Do you use a van-specific fridge or a regular one?

I have an Intech Flyer Pursue, which is also a squaredrop, but I am jealous of your stabilizers. I also like that you are set up to run from the powerstation instead of a house battery. I am always thinking about how to shave more weight off my camper, and that seems like a good way to do so.

Great video and a lot of good tips. I think your electrical is the way to go and I think more and more people will go with the solar generator option. Also, I a 6'3 and heard the HT awnings were too low. yours is the first video I have seen with a different awning and the extra height is great for me. My only question is 9' vs 10', do you ever wish you had an extra foot of space? I am currently planning on one of the 10' models. Love your set up.

Great video on your trailer and adventures. Camping with your mom....how wonderful. I have a 5x10 XL on order and about 70 days out. On the folding mattress it seems like you wouldnt order it again! Is it a Millard tri fold? Just remember when a trailer is being towed its like a mini earthquake inside that thing. Just the way it is.......Happy Camping!

Haha a mini earthquake… so true. It’s a “JINGWEI Folding Mattress” on Amazon. I would definitely buy it again but I might flip it so that the couch option is less accessible and the crack is down my my knees. Good luck with your trailer- so exciting!!

Thank you for sharing! Question, we are ordering the hwy dlx in a few weeks. Not sure of the tung hight difference, but what ball hight do you use on your OB? I think I saw a 2" rise? -- may not help as I've got an OBW which sits at 9" ground clearance. Which is 1.5 higher than the non wilderness OB model. Thanks again!

Fantastic! Good for you. How do you go about purchasing this trailer? I'm in Boston and I suspect you ordered through the company but how was it delivered? I'm seriously considering a Hiker. What kinds of problems have you had with the propane heater? I was considering using a Diesel heater until I found out about the propane option but if the Diesel is going to be less headache I'll make the mod myself.

Great video! Any issues with bugs and the open galley bottom?
@5ft1adventures
@5ft1adventures 10 ай бұрын
You know, I thought there might be, but no, we never had an issue. If we were cooking in there, and thus had it open for a longer time, maybe it would have been a bother? But even when we did leave it open a while, the bugs didn’t fly in. It probably helped to keep the interior lights off while doors were open. Thanks for the question!

How did you install the bug screen in the A/C Prep Vents? Thank you! I enjoy watching your travels with your mom and puppy!
@5ft1adventures
@5ft1adventures 10 ай бұрын
If you unscrew the vents from the inside, and cut a circle of flexible screen so that it folds over the edges of the part that sticks into the camper wall, you can just screw it back in, and it holds the screen nice and tight!

@@5ft1adventures I have one made by Napier it doesn't seem to take a lot of room when you pack it away correctly into its bag . It's going to take a little practice of putting it up and taking it down by yourself to get good at it. That's what I had to do because I had to camp in the parking lot of one of my jobs every day because I live too far to be driving home and it was eating my gas up in my truck so I was taking that tent down and putting it up every day. I got pretty good at it to the point that only told me about 8 minutes to put up, 8 minutes. May seem long but it's a pretty big tent. The issues with the poles but like I said I can do it a few times. You get good at it and you figure out the shortcuts and the easiest way for you but it worked out pretty well. I used it in the rainstorm only one time though. I mean I've been in rain with it but only one rainstorm with the wind blowing really hard. But I also spray my tents down with waterproof spray
