Awesome. I typically take 24 packets of 2 minute noodles for an 8 day trip! Now watching videos like this to try and break my horrible habbit.

This made me laugh! I mean 24 packets of 2 minute noodles is what we all secretly want to take. Followed by 20 packets of Mi Goreng. I wish you well on breaking your habbit 😛

100% yest to the mash potato dinner. For anyone skeptical, you just have to source a great brand. In N. America, we have Idahoan instant potatoes which are excellent and other brands that are just terrible. Brining freeze dried or deyhyrated mince, spices, veg, and/or some bullion is a great idea!

Hello, Dave from Ohio here. I thought your video on food preparation for a long hike was very informative and interesting. I’m planning to hike and camp to Montana and knowing what I know now because of your video had me thinking. I like your thinking of protein and fiber based foods, dried fruits and of course sugar for quick energy as your snickers bar 😋. Yet, consuming meat protein on one meal makes sense. A good change up. I plan to make granola, like trail mix, I simply enjoy. Thank you for sharing your tips and happy adventures 🙏

I have seen all the dehydration vids and ended up thinking that I eat BAD when on a hike! Glad to see you broke out the 2 minute noodles and continental side dishes. Made me feel much better! I also go the Deb instant mash with dehydrated peas / corn with a cupa soup for flavour. How did you live without 2 minute noodles? My wife is like a hobbit - Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Elevensies, Lunch, Post Lunch, Threesies, and the noodles get smashed. Indeed I think 50% of my wife's pack might be 2 minute noodles at times...... Oh and BBQ shapes for me.... except for the period where they messed with the formula!
@settohike
@settohike Жыл бұрын
Hahah I honestly don't know, I had those 2 minute noodles on the hike and they went down so well. (I actually think ive taken them on every hike since, although always just the two packets not half my pack like your wife 😂 ) That was a crazy time when they changed the recipes for a bit, I laugh when I see they are still writing original flavour on the boxes.

Could I please ask when you portion out your cereal what are measurements like how much cereal to how much protein powered? Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
@settohike
@settohike 4 ай бұрын
I always pour my cereal into a bowl first so then i'm pouring the same amount as I would normally eat of a morning. As for protein powder, mine always comes with the scoop to indicate 1 serving. So I put a little bit less than 1 serving of protein powder. If you feel like it tastes too much like protein then i'd just put in 1 heaped tablespoon. But yeah I don't really follow a cereal to protein ratio 🙂🙂

I’m new to backpacking, how many pounds of food a day is the right choice?
@settohike
@settohike 3 жыл бұрын
It honestly depends on the amount you eat and the kind of food you are bringing. On this trip for example I knew I had to carry 8 days worth of food in one go so I made sure everything was dehydrated or as light as possible which ended up being about 650g - 700g per day but I am only small so I might not eat as much as a grown man. I have heard other people taking 2kg of food per day. If I were going on a shorter trip like 3 days, I wouldn’t be as worried about weight I would bring heavier foods like fresh fruit. So it really depends on you. It only takes a few hikes to know what kind of foods you like on a hike :)

@@settohike super excited! I haven't had more than a long weekend in 5 years. Anything biltong is good. I'm not a fan of the typical stuff that's sticky and chewy and about 20% sugar.
