Located within the Adirondack Range in Upstate New York, Mount Marcy is 5343 feet tall and is the state's highest mountain. The most traveled route to reach the summit is by taking the Van Hoevenberg Trail, which starts at the Adirondak Loj parking lot. Make sure to start early as this parking lot fills up fast. This trail rises nearly 3600 feet over approximately 8 miles, and is strenuous.
Unfortunately the day that my friend and I hiked Mount Marcy the summit was covered in clouds/mist. As soon as we finished the hike, the sun appeared with little clouds in the sky, most likely giving hikers great views from the top. I had to remind myself that this is just the way things go sometimes and that the adventure lies in the journey itself.
