Hiking Sinclair Canyon in Canada's Kootenay National Park, B.C.

4 жыл бұрынThe town of Radium, British Columbia near Canada's Kootenay National Park has the most dramatic town entrance ever - the towering rock walls of Sinclair Canyon. Check out this small but incredible canyon feature, where you can see waterfalls, tumbling creeks, hike into the forest on Juniper Trail and more.
Join Marti from "Down the Wrabbit Hole Travel" as she and her family explore the area around Radium's Sinclair Canyon, hike down Juniper Trail and discover some local wildlife. Just a note: this footage is from 4-6 years ago before I got a nicer camera, so it is fuzzy in some places. I can't fix it, it is what it is! :)

I love that there's a sidewalk so you can walk through the canyon! You don't usually see that on a highway!

Yes, they basically just sliced right through the canyon itself to build the road. Then the sidewalk was added to connect the town of Radium up to the Radium Hot Springs. :)

It is such a pretty place. It's never busy - I don't think people realize such a great hiking trail is there. Maybe cuz it's so close to the highway?

As far as I know, no one has been struck by a falling rock or anything along that trail. I think in places they have some of that safety netting up.

That is a great entrance to a town! Ours just has a sign. nice hike too - the trees and the stream at the bottom were very pretty.

It definitely makes an impression! :) Often there's a herd of those bighorn sheep grazing around there, which really adds to it.

This is an amazing looking canyon, but in the overall scheme of things its pretty small. I'd like to see the Grand Canyon in the United States one day! :)

It is a really pretty area, and not very crowded. I think because of the highway not too many people realize there's an amazing hiking trail right there.

It is really beautiful - you can drive through it in the blink of an eye and never really appreciate what you just saw. You have to stop and explore it a bit! :)

There's two Radium Hot Springs, good to know! I could certainly use a soak in a hot spring right about now, instead of trying to teach my 4-year-old his letter sounds and sight words! ;)

You'd love that area! There is a much longer hike on the OTHER side of Sinclair Canyon that we've never done (too much for the kids) but when they get older we hope to try it.

Parker is funny duck that way - he will have tons of energy, and then want you to carry him for the last half of the walk. So if he can climb the stairs, I'm sure they aren't that horrible! ;)

The area is definitely worth a visit. We stayed there with family for 10 summers in a row, but haven't gone in a couple of years now. Time to go back! :)

This is just stunning! Now added to my bucket list. We've been to Newfoundland and fell in love. This is where I need to take my grandkids to. Wow the canyons. What is the best season to go? I'll remember Junipers Trails for hiking. Thank you for sharing.

I've never been to the East Coast but I definitely want to one day! :) As for the best time to visit the Kootenays, it depends on your activity preferences. If you like nature hikes, camping, white water rafting, water sports, etc., then the summer is your time to shine. If you like skiing, snowshoeing, etc, then the winter is a great time to visit. (I'm a summer girl truth be told.)

There's tons of hiking trails in the Radium area but we didn't really take advantage of them with the kids being so young. Time to go back again and really explore the area! :)

Not really, this trail is really close to town and a busy highway. And the park is really, really good about putting up signs if there is a bear sighting and warning people in the area.
