Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail ALONE…Here’s Why I Did It // Last year, I hiked 981 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail heading southbound, by myself. People ask me all the time why I wanted to hike the PCT again and why I wanted to hike it solo.
In this video, I’ll share with you why it was not only important for me to hike the Pacific Crest Trail again in 2023, but also why it was also equally important that I hike it solo.
If you’re thinking about planning a thru hike or a section hike on a long-distance trail like the PCT or a section hike this year, chances are not many of your friends and family (if any) will be willing to go with you.
You might have to do it alone.
My goal for this video is to share with you my experience of why I decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail alone, both in 2018 and 2023 and through those experiences have come to fall in love with solo backpacking.
Honestly, solo backpacking might not be as scary as you think.
Here’s my story…

As a fellow solo hiker, thru hiking the PCT has always been a goal of mine. I absolutely share the sentiments you discussed here; solo adventures let you enjoy the experience at your own pace, on your own terms. Congratulations on this awesome accomplishment!

Thank you Kathleen for creating this program! It has changed my life in a huge way. With zero hiking experience I enrolled almost two years ago, and in 2023 I hiked (including multiple overnight backpacking trips) over 700 miles (most of those solo)! I have found my happy place!

Not a girl, but probably every bit as inspired by your spirit- your inner beauty shines through so brightly that I had to comment. You are a gift to all of us, sharing this moment of connection with the natural world that is still so giving to us after all that human kind has done to (maybe not intentionally ). upset so many fragile balances non the less. Let’s all be grateful for what we still have here!🌿🏃‍♀️🧘🏼🙏

Question for you. I’m going to hike from Kennedy meadows to Vvr on the pct. Because we need bear cans. Do you think I can make it with food averaging 15 miles a day. Or will I need a resupply.

It depends and there are too many factors for me to give you a definite "yes" or "no". It all depends on the weather, the trail conditions, how fast/slow you hike, how much food you pack, how many miles a day you actually hike....Just remember, depending on whenever you plan on doing this trip, if everything is covered in snow, snow travel may slow you down considerably.
