Here is a primer for some of the people commenting here who do not understand America: when an American says he is Irish or Italian or whatever, he is talking about his roots. The cool thing about most Americans is that they embrace their nationality but still feel tied to their ethnic ancestry. That does not seem too complicated to me, but some people apparently do not get it.
@NOC4SFV9 жыл бұрын
The difference is that Irish roots isn't the same as being Irish. They're Irish/Italian-AMERICANS in the video, but not Irish or Italian. That doesn't seem too complicated to me, but some people apparently do not get it.

Steve Finlay Yeah idk why the video was even titled that way. i grew up with an Irish American family and have been to and been a part of many Irish Catholic weddings and I have also been to and been in a few Italian weddings. Italian weddings are usually a little less ceremony and more reception and they try harder to keep it classy. Irish Weddings are very Catholic up front and then turn to shit pretty quick but in a good way. open bar and just truly the men of the family getting lit up ( and most of the wives and kids honestly) and forming groups to loudly tell stories stories about great uncle Bob beating the pants off a guy in 1931 over a dispute with Italian kids over Pigeon territory, The itish guys were big on raising and training the best pigeons.

As an Irishman I would just like to apologize for some of the idiotic comments under this video being made by Irish people saying that Americans don't have a right to their heritage, or to call themselves Irish or Italian etc. I just want you to know that not all Irish people from Ireland have such a narrow definition of what it means to be Irish. P.S Why is the best man's suit three sizes too big for him? lol
@OpeningSalvo9 жыл бұрын
Ballyscanlonbreeze Indeed they are. It's pathetic, ignorant and narrow minded.
@Martypants6669 жыл бұрын
Hear hear, it's something we should be proud of, that Americans in particular seek to identify with their Irish heritage. It speaks of how strong our cultural strain is in any family, which may have a few other non-Irish influences in it too. It comes in no small part through storytelling and a link with the 'old country', a spiritual link with the land rather than merely religious. Irish-Americans would probably agree that the Irishness is very different than that of someone born and bred in Ireland but it gives them no less right to feel what they feel.

@Msciarraiabu9 жыл бұрын
Ya they have a right to their heritage but why do hyphen Americans always feel the need to trot out outdated stereotypes. Irish "pale freckly drunks", Italians "goodfellas Mafiosi" types. If you listen to irish people from Ireland or Italian people from Italy, they NEVER joke about those, they are quite sensitive subjects. I genuinely think that is why there is a breakdown in understanding there, I really do.
@theolamp53129 жыл бұрын
cara devine Hi - I'm of Irish descent & I sort of agree with you. Yet, I think he spent a lot of time doing something very special for the Bride & Groom. And, I don't think he went over the top with the stereotypes. It was a quick hit & then he moved on. Everyone there seemed to enjoy it. So, who are we to judge.

Ancestry isn't nationality. Send these guys to either Ireland (where I' from) or Italy and see how Irish or Italian they are then, they'd stick out like sore thumbs
@Bogs41510 жыл бұрын
Oh really? They really wouldn't fit in in a different country? No shit! Ancestry is part of us, our family's history. Some people think it's interesting and some don't. You may be part of the latter, but so what. A lot of people find it interesting, hence the part of your identity. Don't worry though, no one is going to think Patrick O'Reilly from Ohio is from Ireland when he goes to the beach and burns and says its cause he's irish. You see, it wouldn't make much sense if he said its cause he's American... Also, idk if you think you invested Ireland or own it, but you didn't and don't.
@NOC4SFV10 жыл бұрын
Well you're very touchy about the whole thing, I've obviously struck a nerve. Seems like Americans have a bit of an identity crisis. They might be of Irish/Italian extraction, but they're Americans, not Irish or Italian. Invested Ireland? Dunno what that's supposed to mean, but I've certainly contributed to it, and never said I own it, I said I'm from there, hence I'm Irish, people in the video aren't...see how easy it is? (By the way, as stereotypical a name as it is, I actually know somebody called Patrick O'Reilly haha)
@ZachGarnerComedy9 жыл бұрын
Neil O'Connor You'll probably never understand it because you were not raised in a giant melting pot of cultures and religions. For hundreds of years people have swarmed to the USA from every part of the globe, so we are raised to hold onto our roots. We are just as proud of our heritage as we are to be Americans.
@NOC4SFV9 жыл бұрын

Miss Jo it was a joke calm down. And he doesn’t look Italian
@missjo1744 жыл бұрын
Thomas Evers I’m calm and relaxed . But it gets tiring all these Americans claiming to be Irish, saying there great great grandmother was Irish etc. Where ever you were born and reared that’s where you’re from. Yes they may have ancestors who were from Ireland . I have ancestors who were the vikings but I don’t claim to be a Viking .
@Strawberry-12.4 жыл бұрын
Miss Jo you have to understand the difference in how Americans view ethnicity. Because so many of our ancestors were immigrants they implanted that culture and customers with there children who pass it on to there children etc. this would mix with the old American making a (insert ethnicity) American. The reason Irish Americans might say there Irish is because when they describe the ethnicity’s to other Americans it’s easier to just say Irish.
@missjo1744 жыл бұрын
Thomas Evers Yes I understand what you’re saying. Suppose It should be taken as a compliment that they are so proud of their Irish heritage . But it does get annoying, when a person is born and reared in America and never set foot In Ireland and claims to be Irish. Better to just say my family came from Ireland or I have Irish blood etc. But each to their own.
@Strawberry-12.4 жыл бұрын
Miss Jo yea I see what you mean. People saying there Irish is mostly just people just shortening “I have Irish ancestry”. On another note it nice that people can still have peaceful conversations on the internet without getting all pissed off
