In August of 2022, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) clocked in with the highest favorability rating among a list of 23 potential 2024 presidential contenders, according to a USA Today-Ipsos poll. I don’t have more recent results handy, but as in 2016 he was the most popular of ALL our nation’s politicians, and I’ve seen no reason for decline in the past year and a half, my bet is that he still rates well above Joe Biden - and incidentally far above Hillary Clinton. Whatever part in that his personality plays, I’m pretty sure the greater part is policy. The Democratic Party establishment’s rigging against him appears to me to have been superfluous, given the skew of the electorate in party primaries. His appeal is disproportionately to fellow independents, who make up more of the _general election_ voters - roughly half again more - than either major party’s membership.
