A brief instruction on the attitude that needs to be developed towards one's own regard of the significance of sense pleasures. The problem with sensuality is that deep down it is STILL being WANTED, despite all the restraint and seeing how of little satisfaction it all is.

Wanting, the child of craving. You Close the door on wanting, you fulfill the second noble truth, the cause of suffering.

It’s like REAL TIME shadow work! 🤯 Like from my perspective/understanding(tell me if anyone has gotten a different view) Once you master WANTING THE NOT WANTING it stops you from creating SHADOWS that you would have to work through in the future, things that would have manifested itself as some form of addiction.💙🖤

The only thing you would have to work on from that point forward, would be the SHADOWS of your past. You cease to cause further damage, and the state of homeostasis can begin. Wow what a great video, and I’m only 4 mins into it💙🖤

Bhante how do you classify the wanting of checking social media, is it a craving for sight or mental formation?

Fundamentally, it is 'moha', or desire for distraction.

Dear Ajahn, I have been practicing sense restraint. But after hearing this talk, I am still not quiet sure how to go on to practice not wanting of the wanting. It is rather abstract to me. Could you please give a practical example? Let say while walking outside, the eye will want to look for some beautiful opposite gender, with sense restraint, what I do is to either fix the sight on the ground in front, or use asuba to warn the mind. So how should I practice not wanting of the wanting in this case? How to not welcome, not delight, not entertain and keep the desire just at the door step without letting them in? Let the eye go the direction it wish and watch the result of seeing? Thanks Ajahn!

In order to do it you must not allow your eyes to look at things they want for the sake of desire. So absolutely NO, don't allow your eyes to go in the direction they wish. However, that doesn't mean that you should pretend or try to deny that desire or wanting by your eyes is not there or it shouldn't be there. Only in that manner - first restrain, then while STILL being restrained allowing the phenomenon of the eyes' desire to be, then you can learn how to not-want that very wanting of your eyes.

@@HillsideHermitage Thanks Ajahn! I am much clearer now regarding the practice! The key point that I got from your talks is - Don't just do it blindly, but do with understanding.

Not psychologizing, not replacing with asuba, not resisting, but letting arise the wanting, watching the pressure and ensuring however long necessary is the way to go. Combating should not be the goal but leting the wanting dissolve all by itself. That's the goal.

Bhante or other listeners, is it just me, or the last 15 seconds of the recording have no sound? Bhante asks the question of "how long does it take" (to manage to shut the door to Mara and her daughters once and for all), I hear in his reply "well it depends on the p...........................[blank]". I really wish I could have heard the answer... thanks in advance to anyone who has it.

Depends on the power of the mind not to give into the pressure of sensuality, based on a lot of listened talks this would be my guess.

Venerable, What is the mind or psychology of Mara? Why does Mara try to keep a being in Samsara and why does Mara have the desire to rule Samsara in itself and in the way that it does ? What is the benefit of this to Mara? Thank you very much as always for your videos. I'm trying to practice sense restraint last months due to them.

Bhante, should the "not wanting" that comes with unpleasant feeling not be wanted? Is that "not wanting" part of the feeling as much as the wanting of sensuality is part of sensuality?
