Hinged Lid Box - Laser Cutting Tutorial

This tutorial shows you how to make a laser cut box with a fully integrated hinged lid. The hinges are built in to the top and sides of the box so no hardware is needed. You can customize the template to quickly make a box of any size, with any material thickness.

Thanks for the little explanation. We just get a big professional laser cutter into our makerspace. I didn't recognize the masking tape and wonder why both sides of the wood is different 😄. You helped 👍

Making them stackable would be a great addition. (Just a cutout for the hinge on the sides.)

Thanks for the suggestion! We can work on a stackable box template. Do you think plain open boxes that are stackable would be useful or do you think having the stackable option on the hinged lid box in particular is useful for you? -Toby

@@Cuttle I taught about the stackable box. But I created a Fusion360 design because I wanted the hinge in line with the back wall and the bottom and top with holes to keep marbles in place😅 For stackable boxes I could use the sliding lid ones, but that would not work with my intent of storing marbles and having the boxes as small as possible🙈 - Tobi😉

love the box, how difficult would it be to have the front be fixed to the lid so that when opened the front lifts away?

Is it possible to make the pins a little bigger on the hinges that fit into the holes? I am concerned that on a larger box they are too small and will snap off. Thanks

On this template the pin size is entirely determined by the material thickness. That's a good idea though and I'll think about a variation on this template with larger pins. In the meantime, if you are making a larger box I would recommend using a thicker material (like 1/4 inch thickness). -Toby

There is a unit selector widget where you can change a parameter's unit from inches to mm (or other unit). I do recognize folks have strong feelings about units 😅 -Toby
