Yes, the guitar solo at the end is out of this world but nobody mentions Nick Mason’s drumming that so perfectly and unobtrusively underscores everything Gilmour does.

This version possibly the best guitar solo of all time IMO. Gilmour extracts so much emotion from that instrument 🔥

I was one of the very lucky people who were present at this concert at Earls Court. It was amazing , musical ability and light show out of this world. Roger Waters had left the band by then but his absence did not deter from the quality of the show. At the end of the show the whole audience went out in a stunned silence at what they had just witnessed . Pink Floyd have always been a great live band and they certainly proved it at this concert. One of the most outstanding concerts I have ever been too and I have been to a few ! I am 72 now. Sadly Earls Court is no longer there . It had witnessed many great shows. I thought you would like it!

Yes, that was Rick Wright on keys and Nick Mason on drums (although you can see they had another keyboardist and drummer on this tour, as well as Guy Pratt on bass and Tim Renwick on guitar). David and Roger wrote this song. Syed, I would also LOVE to see you do Echoes live at Pompeii in 1971/'72 (first time filmed) and Echoes live at Gdansk, Poland in 2006 (last time performed while Rick was alive). They are both so beautiful and powerful.

It was Roger Waters who wrote the lyrics to Comfortably Numb, not Gilmour. Roger wrote nearly all of Pink Floyd lyrics and concepts through the 70s. Roger is the one with the all angst and separation issues so brilliantly explored lyrically in "The Wall" . Dave and Richard Wright brilliantly interpreted those feelings in the stunning compositions they created. And particularly Dave with that perfectly melancholy voice nearly as iconic as his guitar. Roger was long gone by the time this was filmed in 1994, having left the band in 1985.

David Gilmour does not simply play the guitar. He tells a story with it. RIP Richard Wright.

YESSSSS FIRST!!!! This is by far the best Live performance of Comfortably Numb by PF in my OP. Everything was perfect the effects the vocals the instrumentals and the Solo!!!!! What is often lost about Pink Floyd was the fact they were a live band, first and foremost. Unlike today's music which is all about the studio artist, Floyd was all about the live performance. They hid behind light shows, soundscapes, and theatre-style performances that immersed their audiences. The individual band members took a back step to the show. They often played and perfected songs live before committing them to albums, and even then would evolve their song further during subsequent tours. An example of this is Dark Side, which was originally performed in 1972 (concert bootlegs are available online) that shows how the album evolved. Shine On, Dogs and Sheep were all concept pieces (again bootleg available online) that were performed live by the band from the 1973 Dark Side tours. Comfortably Numb is an awesome example of their ability to deliver brilliant live performances, but far from an exception.

It is Guy Pratt who replaced Roger Watwrs on Bass and he was dating Richard Wrights daughter (I think they later married) it is Richard Wright and Nick Mason, they also double up with an additional drummer, Keyboard player and guitarist. Another great song about time and looking back over your life is High Hopes and that is another exceptional live song from Pulse

His solos, especially the second one, hit you like a train when you listen to it loud. Tears to the eyes stuff.

The standing ovation started at the very beginning of the 2nd set and lasted straight through the double encore (Comfortably Numb followed by Run Like Hell). I saw them 5 times on this tour and everyone was just entranced. A live performance for the ages.

I remember seeing this light show on its first tour at Wembley Stadium. When the glitterball came down and then began to open, I thought I was having an out of body experience. Floyd can literally take you to another place and time. Magical.

Brilliant. The lighting engineer for that concert was on fire!!! That would have been one of the best experiences for anyone to be a part of and I am jealous of all those at the concert.

I saw this at this venue 4 days before this DVD was filmed. I genuinely doubt I will ever see a concert done to this standard ever again. The huge glitterball in the audience was astonishing sight.

I was about five or six rows back. Earls Court October ,94 ( can’t remember the exact date off the top of my head and if I wasn’t so baked right now I’d run upstairs and check the tickets) Being there was like a “spiritual experience“. Getting to meet David Gilmour and Nick Mason backstage (I’m related to one of the backing singers- Sam Brown) made the evening sublime. Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet Rick Wright R.I.P. Greatest band ever. Greatest gig EVER !! I.M.O. It still gives me the “feels” to this day. ✌️

I attended this tour in Mexico City, open stadium, about 100,000 fans. This is the only time that after the final applause, everybody just stood smiling, not chanting "one more" or whatever. This not because we did not want more but because everybody understood that this whole concert was a work of art, perfect, and not to be molested. We all were stisfied, moved and at peace. Best concert of my life, by far.

One of the best concerts I've ever seen, an emotional rollercoaster, the greatest high you can have without chemical enhancement. For the best experience turn it waaaay up lay, in the dark and let the music take you. Feel the vibration of the bass go through your body.

I was at the Pulse show in Birmingham, Alabama and it turned my brain into neon pink and purple warm Texas Roadhouse Butter. The video is amazing to see and hear, but to be in the stadium with all those people, the breeze blowing and the acid peaking was life changing. Total immersion into a different time and place. I would love to go back there.

Yes indeed, one of the very best musical performances ever, Gilmour is otherworldly as is the entire band, A huge shoutout for the amazing light show and electric audio mix. Next I suggest Pink Floyd, Echoes Live in Pompeii 1972 and in their prime. It is in 2 parts as the video originally opened and closed the documentary concert movie of their show in the ancient Roman Amphitheater. It is as amazing in its own way as what you must witnessed. Pink Floyd are the undisputed God's of Live performances. Everything is highly choreographed to maximize and amplify the emotion in the music. Merging the visual with the musical. All of the special effects, the lights, the props are all there for the fans. There to make experience completely, totally visceral. They want you to go home completely speechless

I worked this show at Yankee and Giants Stadium in 94, ran a follow spot at Giant's for both performances. Definitely a stand out moment in my career. Left to build Woodstock 94 right after.

I saw this tour in '94, in Tampa, FL. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my 50+ years. It was just mind blowing, & I was right up close, in the VIP section, in front. The lights, sounds, & all the props...Even flying animals soaring over the stadium. It was just...magical! A night I will never forgot! 🤘😳🤪🤯👍

For the record, the young guy on “guitar” is actually the bassist. This is Guy Pratt, who is a certified monster, and I guarantee you’ve heard him on a number of killer recordings. (He provided the thunderous bass line on Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song”, for example.) Wonderful player, imaginative and powerful sense of harmony and phrasing.

Pink Floyd’s Division Bell tour started in Miami in March 1994 and ended in London in October 1994 with 14 performances in 17 days at Earls Court. The Pulse concert was from the London portion of the tour. EVERY song from the Pulse Concert is excellent.

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

I'm 79 and have lived in NZ for the past 33 years. I never got to see a Pink Floyd concert when I lived in England, but I bought the double disc version of this one (2 hours +) when it came out in NZ. I listen to it often (always the full performance - so I try to imagine actually being there) and am enraptured by this version of Comfortably Numb. No song can compare with it when performed this way - Gilmour literally plugs his own soul into his guitar, and they become as one. I get the most intense spiritual uplift every time I listen to it - and I do so often! It was a pleasure to see your reaction - Pink Floyd are an experience, not just a band.

So lucky to go to 6 nights of the Earls Court run as I was working in London at the time. It was pretty much known that this would probably be their last gigs and having seen them regularly since the 60s; when they supported Hendrix, I wasn't going to miss this. Not only the best PF gig Ive ever attended, but the best ever gig.

While I usually prefer the studio version, to any live recording, I must agree that this is one fantastic version of a classic song. I like the 1st guitar solo more in the studio version; the 2nd solo is absolutely sublime in this recording (and the video is an added bonus and does not distract from the music or its effectiveness). I have had the absolute pleasure of seeing PF in concert on a number of occasions and in some large venues (in the US). You are correct, it is a "performance" and the musical experience is all the richer because of their efforts. I must say that I enjoyed it when you seemed to realize that it was time to just sit back and enjoy the amazing ride! Well done, sir; a great reaction!

The dvd of this concert has two discs. The second shows some rehearsal footage and also footage of the making of the films shown during the concert. The end credits include EVERYONE involved, such as catering and housekeeping. Much admiration for those sensibilities.

Another artist you should dive into is Stevie ray Vaughn. You have to watch him play guitar it's amazing. You can't tell where the guitar ends and he begins. A truly gifted artist

You need to watch the entire Pulse Concert. I was lucky enough to see this show in Pittsburgh. Totally blown away by their live show.

This concert video also includes a performance of Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. The version of "Money" from this show is a must-watch. Not as emotional as this was, but it just had so much extra to it. Very highly recommended. And if you want to see live Pink Floyd from when Waters was still in the band, you should check out Live in Pompeii. It was performed before Dark Side of the Moon was released, and was the culmination of the band's earlier, more experimental psychedelic rock approach. Just like the Wall movie, its a must-see. And if you want to see live concert visuals so spectacular you'll think someone slipped you some acid, go watch a few clips from Roger Waters' last couple of tours. Out of this world.

Now that you’ve seen this example from Pulse….PLEASE. Do Run Like Hell…or anything else from this concert. There’s really no live concert I’ve ever seen as good as this.

David Gilmore’s guitar work I pure poetry!!!!! He’s not the fasted or flashiest guitarist but his note placement and the emotion he emotes from his solos are unrivaled. He is a master of his craft. The end solo is hailed by some as one of the greatest.

It is a great light show. It's a great show in every metric. Sound quality, mixing, the seemingly small nuances throughout the song that add up to an amazing over all effect. This is absolutely "next level" if anything is. Do you like/want even more intensity? Try "Run Like Hell" from the same tour.

Waters on this 2022 tour does a complete reimagining of the song. It starts his show and I think it is pretty cool on its own. A definite apples and oranges comparison they sound so different

Nick Mason, the drummer, is the only original member to perform throughout the bands history. Rick Wright was on the keyboard. Roger Waters was the primary writer early on, but got in a feud with David Gilmour and left the band in 1985. He was put off that Pink Floyd didn't disband, but rather retooled with Gilmour as the front man and had continued fame and success.

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

Speaking of climactic moments, even though you went "Oh, wow" when the spotlights shown on it, I am always disappointed that no one mentions that the full moon (mirror ball), perhaps referencing The Dark Side of..., blossoms into a flower at the end, a kind of transformation, which always kills me when I watch this.

If you were born in 1959 you would hit the sweet spot of the 70s rock movement right while you were coming of age, at 16-18. We knew the music was good, but had no idea it would hold up all this time.

I like to listen at volume 15 - I have blown out speakers on the closing solo.

"Souring with Gilmour" in the close-ups of him playing you can better see how often he's using 3 fingers pushing up on the guitar strings "bending" which effectively increases tension in the string making it tighter to produce a higher note. The alternative is to simply "fret" (press on the string) further along the neck effectively making the string shorter to achieve the same higher note. However "bending" gets that beautiful rise to the note, and un-bending" slides you back down. So you get this beautiful "colour" And its David's ear that tells him when he's pushed exactly to the note as apposed to simply knowing where the frets are.
