Fun Fact: The lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is an author, entrepreneur, world class Fencer, actor, broadcaster, an airplane pilot (he flies the band's plane), and he beat tongue cancer. He also has one of the biggest vocal ranges in metal.

I'm not a huge fan of them honestly. Like, if it comes on in a compilation or something, I won't turn it off and I'm fine listening to Iron Maiden, but I never went out of the way to actually listen to them. I just can't get into Bruce's voice, no matter what, it just... annoys me for some reason, can't explain why. Personally the only two Maiden albums I listened to a LOT were the ones that probably most people hate: The X Factor and Virtual XI.

Alex: I've noticed through your Journey of Metal, that several things have happened: - You've gained immense respect for Metal and those are deemed followers of it. - Your surprise is leveling out to the norm we metal heads have for large crowds at concerts. It really is like this always, no matter the venue. - You've realized that metal has a message and it isn't just a bunch of loud unintelligble screaming. Well, most anyway. haha. - You've seen how diverse Metal is: many genres, many sounds, all kick ass. - You noticed the dude in the crowd with the tongue action: its why we get the hot chicks. I offer respect in return of this honest evaluation you've uncovered through your Metal-land Journey. One of us. One of us. One of us. Also, here's the obligatory request for Chevelle. C'mon, you knew it was comin...

That was the song I introduced Iron Maiden to my 5 year-old son... and everytime he listens to it he sings along to the guitars...Then I took him to see them live last month in Porto Alegre (Brazil)... by the time we got to the Arena, he was unbelievably struck, so amazed by the crowd and I was so proud of seeing him enjoying it all! He waited so eagerly for this song to be played but ended up sleeping in my husband’s arms two songs before they performed it... once we got home he sadly said “They didn’t play the song, mon!” that was lovely anyways 😍😍😍 Luckly we video recorded him sleeping while they were playing it and he was able to watch it the next day... He loved it!!! Fear of the dark it's not among my favorite Maiden songs, but every time I see the live version I'm masmerized and moved because I saw them live 6 months ago and I was singing (or better say shouting, because after that live I was voiceless for days but super happy) that very same song with at least other 40.000 people, it was epic, and it was a dream finally come true. I think that this is one example of songs born to be played live, because you don't see a crowd react like that everyday. You should definetly go to see them live because the energy of their show is amazing!

Had the same experience with Metallica's Nothing Else Matters a couple years back in the black album's 20th anniversary tour, in Paris, Stade de France. 50k persons all singing and waving lighters and shit. Religious silence during the rest of the song. Basically a religious experience. Cried happy tears, and I'm not ashamed of it :) In terms of videos though, my favourite in that style would be Rammstein's Du Hast at Volkerball, he basically doesn't even need to sing lmao

They did a documentary on it called FLIGHT 666 and is well worth watching as it has some great insight of the band.

If you ever have 2 hours free react to the whole of Rock In Rio. SO GOOD! Edit - Fun fact, the reason for the football like chanting is because Steve Harris (bassist) had the choice when he was younger of either playing for West Ham United professionally or Iron Maiden. Steve bleeds football almost as much as Maiden and so when he writes melodies they are typically done as football chants :) (also more fun facts Steve is wearing an Iron Maiden FC kit for this show and both the kit and his bass use the West Ham colours)

Iron Maiden live is one of life’s best experiences. I remember last time I saw them on the Book of Souls tour I got to the show 4 hours early to be first in line (held in the worse piss of my life for it), had my face painted up like Tribal Mayan Eddie from the Book of Souls cover, and got second row front and center to the stage, right behind the VIP’s that got in early. Show was electric as always, crowd singing and screaming so loud sometimes overpowered the entire band, and at the end Nicko threw his drumstick right at me and I caught it mid-air. It was like a f***ing movie moment bro I swear. People were losing their minds next to me like “YOU ARE SO LUCKY HOLY SH*T” haha overall just best lyrics, energy, riffs, and memories. Guys love them, girls love them, nothing but hype for everyone around. Great reaction video \m/

This video is great man, I was really enjoying your reaction ! I felt the exact same way when I first heard this track from Rio in 2001 when I was about 11 years old, that passion they deliver throughout the audience, I can honestly tell it's really special. I've never seen such loyal and passionate fans, and Maiden give everything for their fans. I've seen them 20 odd times over the years around Europe and each time they get better and better and this band unites all fans together no matter what religion, color, gender, no matter if rich or poor. They really care about their fans. Hopefully live shows will return and bring joy to all the people around the world again ! Keep it up @Alex Hefner, I'll subscribe to your channel 🤘🎸

Alright, here's my story. I've seen Maiden twice, and my first time was my first real concert ever. Maiden was playing with Heaven & Hell (Sabbath with Dio). Less than a month before the show, Ronnie went into the hospital and they cancelled the rest of the shows. Saw Dream Theatre instead. That was great, but... it was no Dio. However, if you go to a Maiden show, get there early and fight to the front if you have to. It's worth it. I was at the very front of the crowd when the show started. They have this song called "The Wicker Man" that you should react to. They opened with that, the first lines being "Hand of fate is moving and the finger points to you." Well, Bruce comes running out on stage and leaps over the speakers like he does, and when he sang that line, he dead ass looked right in my eyes and pointed at me. I came and I don't remember much of the show after that.

@@deathmetaldungeon429 : Heavy metal primarily is British, so (although the title gets bandied around a lot) there isn't really such a thing as "new wave of british heavy metal". NWOBHM would imply either/or: #1 = There was an old wave of British heavy metal (which there wasn't) or #2 = That there was a wave of non-British heavy metal (which there also wasn't). I didn't say they were "the first", I said "pretty much helped invent heavy metal" (which is different). Apart from Sabbath, there wasn't anyone else in metal apart from Maiden and Priest. So yes, pretty much helped invent it. Thank you. [el'sda2].

Bruce stopped in mid song (band still played) to have security throw a guy out because a lady was at the front of the general admission audience and this bigger guy pushed her out of the way so he could be in front. He was doing it all on microphone, it was great. Band kept playing, and Bruce went right back into the song.
