This is Bret Contreras' Hip Thruster Bar Pad that I've been using more and more frequently.
This bar enables you to easily set up a stable hip thrust mechanism in your power rack. I believe this is an extremely practical piece of equipment that you may want to consider adding to your gym if you regularly use hip thrusts in your training program.

Wow. I’ve been looking for a way to do preacher curls that doesn’t take up much space. How do you set it up to make sure it doesn’t roll while you’re curling?
@Levi.Jaeckel

@@jamestonbellajo I haven't set this up as a preacher curl yet but I would assume it's pretty steady. It may wobble, but it's not going to spin out from under you. I'll give it a shot and report back. And, spoiler alert for a future video, but I've also used this pad as a reverse hyper. It works surprisingly well.

@@jamestonbellajo I set my J-Hooks up on the outside of my rack at either a standing or sitting on my bench height. When I lean into it and rest my arms on the pad it braces up against the uprights. I have a rackable EZ curl bar from REP and rest the bar my rack safeties or use a single arm dumbbell.

Hi, that’s a cool piece. I was wondering, on my rogue rack, the lowest I can get my j-cups is around 18” from the floor. With the bar and pad thickness added to that, would the total height be too high for someone 5’ 6” tall to keep proper form? Thanks!

Hi, was curious, for yourself, what is the height of the barbell off of the ground for the BC Strength Bar Pad, and how tall are you. Just wanted to get an idea on my rack where my J cups will need to be engaged. I have a lot connected to my rack and zeroing in on whether or not I will need to move anything would be very helpful. Thanks
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel Жыл бұрын
This pad actually sits lower than you'd think, maybe 18" off the ground or so. It should be set up just lower than knee height. If you think about the bridge movement, you want to set this up so your body is parallel to the ground and the top of the bridge.

What kind of j-cups did you use for your rack? If you have any recommendations for j-cups that would fit a 1 inch holes I’d appreciate it!
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel Жыл бұрын
If you really want to protect your barbells, I'd recommend "Sandwich J-Cups." Personally, I don't use any special J-Cups on my racks. I've just used the standard options. I'm not sure how Sandwich J-Cups would work for this hip thruster bar, because in this case they actually do need to spin in the cup. The Sandwich option is designed to lock the bar in a little tighter.

I’ve seen plyo boxes used before. The only thing you’ll need to worry about is sharp edges on the box. Foam or padded boxes will be much more comfortable on your back/shoulders.

Quality seems great! Granted, I don’t have years of experiences with it, but it’s held up just fine for about 6 months. It gets used by multiple people a day and there’s nothing wrong with it at all. I don’t expect it to “break down” or “wear down” at all.

My only concern with this product is the with of the bar. Anyone who hip thrust heavy (even light) usually gets set at the top doing a little wiggle. Last thing I’d want is a broken femur. Wish they made it a couple inches longer on each side for safety.

Do you think these would work with squat stands? I have the titan x3. It’s 3x3 but just one upright per side
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel Жыл бұрын
Hmm, that's a good question. I don't think you'll have a risk "tipping," the X3 squat stand, the leverage just doesn't work out for that. But, it may "slide," the stand back as you use it. As you load the bar onto your hips you'll put quite a bit of "backward," pressure into the Hip Thruster Bar and most racks aren't designed to resist that horizontal push.
@donna7083

Also, I forgot to mention when I emailed support at BC they told me the hip bar pad is specific to the BC rack only. It looks like you are using a rogue rack which makes me believe it’s universal? Thanks
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s universal? That’d be a cheap move to make it compatible only with their own rack. Also, most racks are universal because they have to work with standard barbells? So if the BC Rack is too different they’ve got a bigger problem haha. I’ve used it on a Sorinex and a Rogue rack. Unless they updated their design it should fit with the rack you are using.

Have you tried it with the Hip Thruster Plates?
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel Жыл бұрын
I haven't. If I need to elevate the barbell to get it loaded on someone's hips, I usually just lay a set of bumpers flat on the ground and then roll the hip thrust barbell up on top of it. The Hip Thruster plates are convenient for the elevation, but I would imagine they are tough to store because they won't fit on a standard plate storage system.

does the silver collar at the ends of it adjust to fit other squat racks? or are they not movable?
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I think you may be able to adjust them if you really needed to. There's a little screw on the silver collars and it looks like you can loosen the screws and move the collars to a different width. However, as they currently sit, they fit fine in both my Rogue and Sorinex racks. Most racks don't have a lot of width variation because they have to fit standardized barbells.

@@Levi.Jaeckel how do you like it? like i know you mentioned it in the video but overall i find it very awkward doing hip thrust on a bench. hoping this is the solution! and the pad is horizontal would you like it if it was vertical so it supports your whole spine?
@Levi.Jaeckel
@Levi.Jaeckel 3 жыл бұрын
I have primarily used hip thrusts on a bench for years both in my own training and with clients. I agree that it’s not the most comfortable. I think this bar fixes those issues, the height can be adjusted on the rack and the rotation is great. And, I think the horizontal design is a better fit than a vertical one would be, I would assume a vertical design would take away from the proper load on your glutes.
