Props to you for diving into a Turk playthrough! I've always wanted to do a Ottoman run (eventually forming them from some sort of Turkish start). Do you have any recommendations for getting started? Enjoyed your commentary and how you explain things, caters well to experienced players as well as plebs like me :P

Videos 5-6-7 are all about switching from Anatolian Seljuks to Ottomans! In fact, I've begun filming EU4 Ottomans already, having completed CK3 recordings (still need to edit.) Thanks for your kind words! From a research standpoint, if you don't want to buy books (understandable) Wikipedia is certainly your friend, I do a lot of it myself. Searching for phrases like: - Ottoman conquests - Seljuk military history Books tend to go more in-depth on the cultural side. From a gaming perspective, here are the challenges I ran into: - Choosing the right starter-leader. You *HAVE* to play as a landed person, which means you need to choose an existing landed person. Yes there is the "create a ruler" concept, but all you're really doing is swapping the EXISTING ruler out with a custom-designed one. The lands they own are still the same. - The Ottomans technically came from a Turkish tribe (Kayi?) that migrated west into Anatolia. The concept of "migration" is hard because (again) you HAVE to have land in CK3. So migration would almost (only) be "Conquer this territory and GIVE UP the previous territory" That CAN be done with clever succession/confederate partition inheritance, but... - It's WAY WAY harder than you'd think to "stay small" for any duration of time. I REALLY had to make efforts to NOT grow my territory too quickly. I hope you enjoy the upcoming Ottoman-focused videos as they release, tonight's is all about the Mongol invasion!!

Wow thanks very much for the info and input mate! I've been going through watching your early videos and it's definitely helped wrap my brain around the complexity of it all. I also saw you mentioned rumored migration gameplay coming from PDX, that would be amazing although my hopes, per usual with PDX, are quite low :P I also wanted to ask, do you play with mods at all? Something I've tried to do is create a solid modlist that allows for more roleplay, immersion, and the ability to play tall for a while without becoming insanely OP. It's an ongoing process but it seems to be a shortcut to allowing the type of story telling your trying to provide and what I love myself too. Thanks for your time and effort!@@AdmiralJediPDX

@@ImmersaholicYou got it, thanks for watching. I do not play with mods, I'm actually kind of a weirdo. They say there are two types of gamers: the kind who take what the devs give them and try to adhere to the dev's vision as closely as possible OR the kind who take what the devs give them and try to "break it" / push it outside the boundaries, etc. I am SO MUCH the first type, that mods actually wreck the experience for me. (I played ONLY modded Minecraft, but that's another story.) For me, PDX can do no wrong, I admit, though obviously everybody has their own experience. Nomads are something that was discussed in DD#109 - forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/dev-diary-109-floor-plan-for-the-future.1546534/ which is KIND OF a bummer, since I just gone done wrapping up essentially nomadic play. Keep me posted on how your play goes!

Konya should be your capital. The holding of Attaleia the Seljuks historically made it their center of trade so build up that holding for income

Are you going to merge oghuz with Greek to make Turkish
@AdmiralJediPDX
@AdmiralJediPDX 6 ай бұрын
In Video 2 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdV6jceZyNbIkpc.html - around 35m I merged Oghuz with Persian to create Turco-Persian, which is what my research has shown me that the Seljuks were. In future Ottoman videos (starting with #6, soon to come) I've considered diverging Turco-Persian into a new Turkish culture based off of traits that have come up in my research, but I've yet to find anything that says the Anatolian Turks / Ottomans considered themselves as THAT different from their ancestors. They seem to have stayed pretty focused on their Oghuz traditions and Islamic faith, while retaining many of the administrative principles of the Iranian/Persian cultures.
