My friends think im weird for it, but i like archeology. Traveling around the map, brain off, finding neat collectables, its fun!

I wish Blizz would update and or maybe overhaul archaeology. Its such a neat profession, really good potential for giving world building lore! :D

Honestly, archaeology is what actually made me continue playing the game after the initial 20 levels and is still one of my favorite pastimes as well as the RP reason my main goes anywhere. Whenever there was a little shovel on the map, I would try and barge my underleveled character into the digsite or get stronger just so I wouldn't die in those places.

A fact you missed - in Legion they added a title obtained from completing 200 Broken Isles dig sites, "the Groundbreaker"

archaeology is exactly the kind of low-stakes minigame that works best in wow. i haven't done any surveying in a while but i def want to try getting some of the older rares.

One of the neat things about the Dwarf rare, "the inkeeper's daughter," is that it opens up a bag slot for you, since you don't need a default hearthstone to use it. Nowadays all the covenant and preorder hearthstone toys share this effect, but for quite some time it was the only one to do this. When I started in MoP (well, I started during the MoP beta, but I'll count it), I didn't to any cataclysm content while initially levelling - I got levels 80-85 entirely through the experience archaeology gave per node.

I had archaeology back in mop for 1 reason only to get the spear of xuen, because spear of xuen back in those days was problably one of the best two handed weapons in the game. The best part about it was it was equippable at level 85 and the power it possesed was abyssmal, running around in bgs and 1 shotting everyone was hella fun. Miss those days.

I really loved Archaeology when it was released, and I’m a little sad that Blizzard didn’t want to continue working on it cause it’s a great way to introduce more lore and more mounts/pets. I hope that they eventually revamp or revive it

In Pandaria, your archaeology displays had a plaque you could click on to get the description. Then in Dreanor, you only got a mouseover with the name. And in BfA not even that. Why? It would have been so easy to add, and not having it makes the display no fun to go back to. I don't think I ever entered the room in BfA except for to complete a quest. It wasn't even a real display room, just some cellar you dumped the stuff. Why? Placing all the dig locations must have taken many hours, couldn't they spared one to make the display room worth visiting?

I literally only did Archaeology just for the Vials of the Sands because I wanted a two-person flying mount. I did finally get it on my mage doing the restored artifacts and it alone leveled up my mage from 90 to 98

You forgot to add that in MOP you use to be able to buy fragments with spirits of harmony, which is what alot of ppl did to get zinrokh

Not a lot of mention of how most early treasures were vendor trash and restored artifacts didn't really exist until later expansions. You also had half as many dirt piles per digsite, and no shovel indicator, and survey's cooldown was twice as long.

They need to make some updates to Archeology or even add some new profession being secondary or primary :D

I really adore archeology for the little tidbits it added to the game. I enjoyed going around with my brain off collecting things. Then again my interest is in all things archeology so that might just be it.

What is the staff that the first character is using, the one with the book in it?

I had the most fun with archeology in Pandaria, because you could farm totally overpowered gear for your alternative characters during their level phase and even at the start of the current addon. Your Blood DK did 50+% of the group damage and could essentially solo the normal dungeons. But that got ruined through the new scaling system and item squish. Of course that is good for new comers, but it made leveling even more boring, mind numbing and grindy for veteran players. Btw is there a tracking addon for archeology collection? I neglected it since Draenor (got a mace and a wolf pet, but cant remember anything else) and would like to catch up.

Because archeology was removed I actually went back to BFA zones and got my last xp needed for max level through archeology after finishing Revendreth.

The current game director, Ion fuckin hates archeology so it wasn't updated for SL. He stated in an interview that he wished it was removed

I remember hunting down all the fossils I needed to get that ghost moose. Had no idea what I was gonna get. But I was so excited when I use the mount for the first time. I rode around Dalaran like a noob idiot just laughing.

they really missed the opportunity by using archeology to trickle bits of lore for each area by making you obtain some lore exposition item like a lost journal or tablet, it gives you role plus if you collect all of lore item on spesific area, you can turned in on archeology vendor to get some reward.

I’d like to add the fact that nerubian archaeology was possible during classic archaeology, but only in the nerubian cave in eastern plaguelands.

4:02 probably the reason it was abandoned was due to being borderline useless. Only archaeologist could use it,only he/she would gain the benefit and if you die or for what ever reason you leave the dungeon,you lose the benefit(and could not get it again for that run). And benefit was minor,like 5% damage taken reduction. If it was party wide and persist trough death/leaving,it would be much more useful...

Zin'rokh wasn't just "pretty decent", it was the best ilvl359 2h sword, as it was 3.80 speed, as opposed to all the others at this level, which were 3.60, and had therefore lower base damage. It was BiS for DK, retadin and DPS warrior until 4.1 came out.

I hate the fact that I didn't listen when I was warned against taking it up in NV WoW. Now I can't try something better without going to a different character. This is still an interesting video though

Ah, Archaeology. I was the first person on my realm to get the Ultramarine tank. I got very, very lucky, and got it in under 25 relics.

There are players who are perfectly happy just playing archeology, or the AH, or doing transmog. Blizzard hates these players. *They aren't having fun the RIGHT way.*

Well... You still have archeology called refer a friend where you mine your friend for archeology like rewards. And it still takes months to dig for something good like irl.

Its wild that shadowlands didnt add ANYTHING at launch. Like its so ripe with possibilities.

Would they have left the Cataclysm dungeons as hard as they were at they beginning, the option to making them easier with expert archeologists would maybe have been used.

Zin'rokh is a pretty good sword? I think you mean it was best in slot when it came out, and forced a whole bunch of people to do a ton of archeology to get it lol I remember being super pissed having to do this for that sword

I used to really like archaeology until I decided to go for the Qiraji mount. That was 10 years ago.

I think the omission of archaeology in SL is the biggest shame to the updates to professions in a while. BFA sucked, but Legion nailed it! They could've copied Legion over and just remodeled everything and I'd have been happy!

Blizzard abandoned Archaeology because of player activity on it beeing low but they don't understand is that players didn't do it because it was bad but because players had more mandatory things to farm like AP and by the time they had time to do archae they were already burned out by the other grinds or simply didn't had time for it.
