History Of The Spanish Mauser: M1893, M1916, M43, & More

In today's video, we look at the history of the Spanish Mauser. From the original M1893 long infantry rifle and M1895 cavalry carbine, to the M1916 short rifle and the Kar.98k inspired M43.
Featured is an earlier production M1916, still chambered for the original 7x57mm Mauser round.
It is followed by a good example of the M43, which fires the more standard 8x57mm instead.
Also, the 7.62mm NATO FR8 makes a guest appearance, and we have a full shooting video on it (here).
Finally, the CETME battle rifle pops in, with our full range review (here).

Awesome collection of history 👌. I have the M43 and would love to figure out how to upgrade it to look like the modernized police rifle. Old rifles but just as useful today as they ever were.

The HK's tend to have polygonal barrels, which is really unique and rarely seen outside of the Whitworth rifle...

looks exactly like mine, I thought it was a mexican war mauser but they used 1895s , not much info about 1916 besides its a short rifle for civil defense.

good morning Misha,as i told you some months ago, im an enthusiast on spanish guns! i got an FR8,M43 and a Destroyer carbine. i have just found a beautiful 1916 yesterday and i will probably going to purchase it. km going to make some reviews on my chanel when i will be able to... aniway as always thank you for this beautiful video and history. PS: in writing some articles for a gun blog talking about these rifles.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. You could spend hours on the history of Mauser rifles alone, because of all the history behind them. I hope you do a video on the Persian and Turkish versions as there is so little information posted about them on this site.

haah no joke, i'll see what I can do later this year. We do have a video on the Gew.98 & Kar.98k, one on the Kar98a specifically, and on the Siamese Mausers. We have one coming on the Kar.98b which to me is an interesting variant. Also recorded a video on the Israeli k98 and all it saw. I'd like to do the G33/40 someday too, cheers.

I have one of those my grandfather gave to me, he was given it in the 60s by a neighbor and it was pretty hard finding info on what it was because he didnt know

Dan the spanish civil war. Germany and Italy sent support and troops to support fascist. While Russia and Mexico were major backers of Republicans. Rebublicans had international brigades all the way from French brigade to Canadian brigade.

I got an m43 and it's in beautiful gun in all matching condition it has a bent bolt and it definitely was made that way but it is number matching. The gun store also thought it was made that way on my particular gun. Why is this bolt on my m43 bent possible restamp?

I'm not an expert but it may be fue to it being issued to cavalry, artillery, or motorized infantry or to make the usage of a scope easier. anyways as i said i am not and expert and i don't know for sure. Greetings from Spain!
