The vast majority were original Kar.98k length. That said, anything is possible and receivers were recycled and 1946-1949, the Israelis took any guns they could get their hands on, period. They used a bit from sweden too.

Yeah! Very good question! I actually own such a rifle whose receiver, bolt and magazine-box is from a 1917 original Mauser/Oberndorf produced Gewehr 98 (of course now converted to the new specs and in .308 cal.) and all the time I wondered about the history of this special example. I asked myself if the Gewehr 98 was converted into some kind of K98k by the Germans between the wars or if it went through WWII in its original configuration (and length) in some depot, was captured by the Czechs and than later exported to Israel. Would be intersting to learn more about this special rifle as it seem to be some kind of "rarity within the rarities"... :-) Anyway, after watching this informative and interesting video of Misha, at least I can assume that my rifle came to Israel with the first small batch from Czechoslovakia. Yep, they used pretty much anything and everything they could get their hands on during the first decade or so. The Uzi came out in 1953 and the IDF adopted the FAL around 1955.

Yep. FYI, there actually is a Japanese cartoon about guns having personalities based on their traits. The L85, for example, is super shy and has crippling anxiety and various health problems that hinder her performance, while the M16 is basically a raging caricature of American stereotypes from the east. The show is called "Upotte!" It is weird, but then again, most anime is. The show takes place at the "western" school of arms development, while the rival school is the "eastern" one. Basically, NATO versus Combloc, but the schools are literally high schools, where rifles study and practice, hoping that they will be adopted by different countries.The M1 Garand is their drill instructor, and he is like an animated version of R.Lee Ermy.

Time and money would be my guess... Already had to buy new and used rifles in the late 40s / early 50s to add to ones they already had and then NATO adopted 7.62 in the mid 50s so they did the same. I don't remember seeing anything about Israeli Mauser in 30-06 (that was usually the Browning MGs)

They made both. Originally when they were occupied, it was the VZ-24 but then around 1942, the Germans forced them to switch all production over to the Kar.98k. So by the later half of WWII, they were making a German spec. K98k.

Nope, not insulting at all. When i go back and listen to the recordings after we make them, i often hear little slips and mistakes and stumbles. I wish there was a good way to easily and neatly clean them up like there is with a typed article, but really there is not short of dubbing over and re-recording. In short, it is just going to happen. It annoys me too when i realise I said something wrong *shrug*.

You could edit in a pop-up subtitle that says "Oops, meant to say Iraq"
