The Chinese Mauser I had (used and confiscated in Vietnam 1967) had been shot so much there was barely any rifling left. Still shot and still deadly if not accurate over 50 yards (perfect for Nam)

Those 4 holes in the side of the stock where were wood dowels were inserted in order to block the magazine and make the rifle a single shot. It can be found on various mauser pattern rifles that spent time in Germany. When someone wanted to removed the dowels typically they would juat cut the dowels from the inside and leave the ends still in the stock lile that. Not too sure why this was done, I've handled a Wehrmann's Gewehr that had those exact type of holes and actually still hand the wood dowels inside blocking the follower from going down, forcing the rifle to be a single shot.

I wonder if the bolt got swapped out at some point. Brazil had bought a decent number of M1907 carbines for their Federal Police. Olson notes that commercial 1904s were stamped with their year of manufacture, and since I'm not aware of any long M1907s being bought by Brazil, I suspect this rifle is a 1904 made in 1907. Brazil bought some 1904s at least up until they adopted the 1908, some of which were later sold on to El Salvador.

I'm not expert on export Mausers, but if you still had the Ottoman Mauser (1903), couldn't you use the bolt in the Brazilian rifle, since they chamber the same round?

Hello, I have a Chinese Mauser rifle like the one shown in this video, but it has a symbol engraved on the butt that I do not know its origin. I am from Chile, and probably the rifle entered the country in 1950 from Brazil. Could you help me identify the symbol?

If the 7mm mauser cartridge would have been a better choice then the 7.9mm, how would the 6.5mm Swedish mauser cartridge rate?
@TheBigOne0305
@TheBigOne0305 4 жыл бұрын
As an infantry cartridge, excelent. But as a heavy machine gun cartridge (especially considering the early, very lightly armored tanks), not so much. And there is a significant logistical benefit to having a single shared caliber for both (more so on the production end than actually in the field as belts and stripper clips are not exactly easily interchangeable).

Basically they're saving some of the very easy ones that they know will be very popular for in case something goes wrong with the production schedule, Ian Mccollum of Forgotten Weapons does the same thing, he doesn't do episodes on guns he owns unless something goes wrong with a different planned video. Also at this point it's a running gag that they haven't done it yet, every time it comes up in the history Othais jokes about it being "some browning thing no one cares about"

@randymagnum143
@randymagnum143 4 жыл бұрын
Creedmore is little improvement over 6.5x55. 7x57 is excellent, but both suffer from lower pressure rating in small ring mausers. In a 98, they can be loaded hotter, but above what factory ammo will be loaded.

I think even if they stayed up 24/7, and had a meth drip attached, there's no way in hell they could research, film, and edit a video a day... Each episode has more primary source research than a year of history channel doccos.

@@lucidnonsense942 True, I concede that point that they can't do one Video per week. But the second video they could either use for Bonus Episode on, for example, a Sunday or to get themselves a break ;)
