Horrible times..nothing has really changed with the industrial revolution. People are still doing monotonous jobs for little money.

I'd argue that things have improved (more in some countries than others), but you're right in that we still have a very long way to go yet.

i think almost everything has changed. Even the poorest people in the world have it a bit better than the Middle Ages. But you are also right. Most of us are doing monotonous jobs, with difficult bosses, for little income. Most dont live as well as th0se who are better off, and the rich care little about the poor.

Great video! I wouldn't have like to have been a peasant in medieval times! Lol

Me either. 😂 Mind you, being nobility could mean being killed if you got on the wrong side of someone as well!

No. No I probably couldn't. If I am as I am now put into a peasant situation in midevil times...I'd probably die in a few weeks.😂 I'm already VERY underweight bc of hyperthyroidism.

Oh dear, we definitely don't want to put you in the Medieval period then! Unless you're a noble, you might be okay then. 😆

@@HistorysForgottenPeople Not to nit-pick, but even the nobles were subject to dodgy medical procedures and medications. To the OP: We're happy to have you here and now in times of effective medicine. 😊

Probably not. I would miss not having being thought worthy by God to have been born into the nobility, resented it, said so, and have been hanged or burned for it. But I wonder about the superb, lively art work of the period. Perhaps from time to time a gifted child from the peasant class would be recognized and encouraged (that is-provided the opportunity) to polish their skills? Would you have to enter a monastery to do so? Please excuse my ignorance. I'm something of a peasant too. Your videos are stimulating me to explore further. Thanks.

Haha, I love your honesty! Back then, you're right, they would have been horrified you didn't know your place. 🤣 But yes, there were some ways to rise up. Boys and girls could enter monasteries or abbeys, and that might mean a gifted child gets a chance to show off their manuscript painting or sermon writing skills if someone noticed how good they were. I'm getting ahead of myself here as it's for a future video, but the peasantry in the middle ages could actually be literate. There are letters written by peasants at the time, asking the clergy at Oxford college if their especially clever son might be able to go. He would never get to the highest reaches of the clergy, but it would be a 'good job'. Then a peasant might decide, if they were good at it, to become an actor/minstrel/jester. You would probably never make a lot of money, but you could travel, and might end up as a court performer. Sorry for the huge answer! In short; yes, there were ways out if you were clever, and monasteries and abbeys were one route. But just like today, it was harder than for those above you.

Philip no apology needed. i enjoyed your comment. Back then, a budding talent probably would have to enter religious life to pursue a gift, or would have to be sponsored by someone who was wealthy
