In this tip I teach you how to hit driver longer by turning your hips quicker. This means no matter what your age, you can gain more distance with irons and driver once you get your body moving as opposed to hitting hard with your arms.
Pick Up Free Samples of The Body Swing here: bodyswing.com/freesamples/
Most people think you need to be strong to hit their driver longer. So why is it little kids and petite players can hit it longer than you? They have to be doing it somehow. They certainly aren't strong.
These weaker players are using their hips to hit the ball. They turn them a lot quicker than you which increases their clubhead speed resulting in longer drives. Here is a simple hip drill that you can literally be doing anywhere so you can hit driver longer.
If you keep doing this drill as well as the others I have recently posted you too will have a quicker hip turn allowing you to hit driver longer than ever.

Another brilliant one, (free), lesson from da Man. I’m telling you kids this guy is the real deal. I’ve learned more from him in a week watching his videos than in the past 15 years since I started playing. So easy on the noggin, makes perfect sense and explains why we need to do these things. I broke 90 for the first time ever just by applying several tips from Paul’s free You Tube videos in one week of watching this past weekend. Hitting the best most consistent shots of my life this past week. Get on these vids people, they are golf gold.

I decided to adapt this style a few weeks ago. I'm 41yrs old and my back would hurt so bad after playing, I had to do something different. I mean, it'd hurt so bad after a round that I could barely walk. So far, I've increased driver distance from 260's carry to over 280 carry consistently. Irons are all about 5-10yds longer as well. My 2 problems I'm having: I'm pulling my short irons, 8-wedges. Also, if I fire my hips through faster with driver, like this video demonstrates, I block it right. Not a slice, a block. And it goes FAR! Other than these 2 faults I'm absolutely loving this swing. I'm unleashing power I never knew was there. But the main thing, after 3 range sessions and 3 rounds of golf - NO BACK PAIN, NONE. Thank you Paul Wilson 💯
@paulwilsongolf

Fantastic. I love hearing it. And some idiot the other day said my swing would create back pain. Some seem to think this is my first rodeo. I have been doing this almost 30 years. I have countless emails from people that they are playing pain free golf. You are further proof. Problem 1: I just did a tip on this a few days ago here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMB0Y8KbtbKcm6c.html and Problem 2 here: You are diving the lower too hard. This causes you to come out of it and lock the wrists sligihtly holing the face open. Anytime you hit a push it is telling you that you are swinging too hard. You need to loose then wrists to unlock the hinge and try again but not so fast with the lower body kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9p2msp-q9DYnps.html

Thanks Paul, I noticed those pros are doing that hip rotations well. But for me (60 y.o. male, 105kg, 170cm) what really helps is the stretching that I always do the night before the game. The flexibility and less-sore muscles greatly enhance hip rotations and prevents the arms from taking over my downswings. So, would appreciate if you can advise us some recommended stretches so that we improve flexibility while preventing injuries. FYI, my regular stretching moves would follow some pilates lessons I took some time ago. Cheers..

Paul, I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and find them very good. Why is it you're the only golf Pro who mentions and teaches the hips in the swing!. I lost my swing some years back due to muscle problems and was using my arms too much....I sorted the problem out and realised that I wasn't using my hips as before. Now I just have to get my timing right. Keep the videos coming Paul and would love to come to the usa for one of your golf schools in the future.

Well, back in 1999 I stopped hitting completely with my arms. So I have been really focused on the lower body as the power source. So years of teaching tens of thousands of people got me explaining it and saying it in ways golfers can understand and do. I don't just think of the present too. I am building a swing for a lifetime. Others try to get you to hit a few good shots immediately then it falls apart and you have to come back. I want you to get it on your own. Isn't that the whole point?

@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
You need the left knee to go straight back. This will not hurt your knee. Around 3/4 through it will be pretty close to locked. Turn on a weird angle and yes, you could hurt your knee. The joint goes back and forth.

I'm so glad to have happened upon your KZfaq stuff...it's excellent. Your combination of expertise, wit and simplicity gives me the kind of hope that made me fall in love with this game years ago...but alas, that once magical love affair has become more like a damaged, nearly abusive relationship now...I still love her, but she just don't love me back sort of thing...anyway, I digress...here's the bottom line...any ideas/drills to keep weight from rolling over to the outside of the back foot? I'm a fairly decent athlete, but it's hard for me to keep it on the instep, thus I lose all kinds of power, consistency, sanity, etc. Over the years, I've created compensating, handsy, timing based survival mechanisms to somehow get back to the ball fairly decently and limp through a round of golf, scoring fine, but definitely not hitting the ball like I should. I'm tired of scrambling all the time and old habits, especially bad ones, are hard to break.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. To get the weight on the instep you need to move your head. If the head stays too still the weight moves outside. As you move your head you can get the weight on this foot and in the process you stablize your whole foot to the ground. If there isn't enough weight there it's easy to move it. I did a tip on it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKiXpdurms63eok.html I would think you need to change the rotational angle you are turning on. Your shoulders may be turning back too steep. To get this you need to stand up at set up. The way to check is that you cannot clearly see your toes (peripheral is fine). From a taller set up you can easily coil and uncoil. Tilted set up gets you moving like a see saw potentially throwing you the the outside of this back foot. Here are some other tips to watch: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbB_pMJ9tJzTgps.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbGbfdClqMeadKs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9yhbJWkp7fdhWg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itOaibCF3622ook.html

Hi, Paul. Golf is such an interesting study. You're based in Las Vegas and, I believe Jim Venetos is base in the Phoenix area. I would love to see an exhibition, say 36 holes stroke play day one followed by 18 hole match play day two, between yourself and Jim. I, myself, use a mix of golf styles which, I'm sure both yourself and Jim can agree, is why I'm a duffer. Thank you for the videos. Be Happy.

@@paulwilsongolf: It doesn't prove anything, Paul. I just thought, with your methods being quite different, it would be interesting. As for using one method, well, you use your method, Jim uses his method and I use a mix I have learned over the years, which is my method. I guess I, too, use one method. Mine. I will say that at 69 years old and having worked standing on concrete for decades, I don't fire my hips much. And, no, it isn't about me learning it. I already know how to do it, too. I just enjoy watching golf, learning about different methods and trying to kill time during this lock-down. Just because I refer to myself as a duffer doesn't mean you know how well I golf. I really didn't expect said exhibition to happen. After all, neither of you would have much to gain other than a bruised ego. Sorry if you thought I was questioning your method. That was not my intent. I was just thinking of the history of exhibition matches in golf history. I wish you well. Be Happy.

I see little value for me in paying a pro for lessons that I know I would not practice. I have neither the heart of a goof, nor am I looking for magic plus fours. I just have fun playing golf. Yes, loosen your arms. If they are buckling you are way too tight. Mine feel like butter. It is crystal clear I am hitting it with my legs and hips. I explain this in all of my tips. So you need to slow down first and get the arms completely out. You do that with this drill: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbyYp69eyZemaY0.html once the arms are out you fire the lower body for more power. I do early extend a little. This saves my back. I have tried to tilt more but can't seem to do it so I stopped worrying about it. To get rid of if you need need to turn the left butt check more so it's visible at and past impact. Try this and see what happens. Others want you to tilt your belt buckle down, bend over etc. I tried them and can't even hit the ball plus as I said it hurts my back. If you can't figure it out then stop thinking about it. It will drive you crazy. Watch Nicklaus. He swung his driver as I do without issue.

Same to you. For sure it's hard to separate them. This is the difference between pros and ams. So you need to be constantly doing practice swings working on it. If you are sending it over the top you are leaning forward as you come down. As I fire my lower my whole upper body goes back (like hitting the accelerator on a car). I do it quick and I am not immediately shifting to my forward foot. Easy way to remember it. Lean left you will swing left. Lean right you will swing right. So ... lean right. Just try it and you will see how it changes the path. This is you trying to hit with your arms so of course you have no lag. You are not trying to make it lean. You get the lean by getting the right fundamentals. Hi Paul, is there any fear that doing this drill a lot will cause you hips and arms to become too "disconnected"? Or is that not even a thing. I've had issues with timing and getting my arms stuck behind and I worry this drill might throw things off time. But I might be wrong. Thoughts?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
No. If you blow it right you either hook 10 shots in a row to speed up the timing of the release then add body again or you slow down your hips. Timing is so simple yet everyone thinks it's hard. 5mins and I could get you hitting it dead straight. See it differently.

You are right most of the online teachers are teaching a pro swing...that’s why I like your method...I am 66 years old and a 15 handicap...my irons are ok...chipping...fairway...and putting and sand shots are great...my problem is my driver...I just want to be able to drive the ball around 240 to 250....in the fairway...consistently....and keep my training simple....I am not interested in bombing the ball 280 etc....

Exactly. I have always known my student. I teach very few younger players. Driver is not that hard. You need to tell me where the ball is going so I know what you are doing. Work on loosening the wrists then moving your body as I am explaining so it become the power sources. You can do it.

Paul Wilson Golf....each drive is an absolute surprise...lol...I may pop it up...to hooking it...to slicing it...to taking my eyes off the ball and duffing it....lol....It’s crazy....I can hit it with my old swing...with my arms but i sacrifice all my distance.....I was raised in watching golfers like my father who caddied for Sam Snead...Nicklaus...Palmer...Trevino....kite etc....I emulate my swing after them....without the internet and utube....all this rotation in the hips was never available to the average golfer who could not afford a golf instructor....the golf swing was to keep your head down and move your weight back and then thru the ball onto your left side....

Hey Paul, when we fire the hips what are we doing with our shoulders? Should they remain passive or do we fire them too? I think I am coming over the top because I am firing the shoulders as well as the hips at the same time. If you could clarify this it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here are my thoughts: First swings just looked lazy. You wouldn't do that if you were hitting balls. The comparison pic is better. You will never get the pic at impact so stop thinking you will. The 2 things you need to work on are less leg movement going back. I can see right between you knees (way too much). So little more flex in the right knee. Make sure the left knee is not going out but behind the ball into the backswing. Less legs and hips going back puts you in a better position to fire the hips to get them open at impact. Club is still laid off at the top. Just start crossing the line a little at the top. If so, you won't do it as much which will allow the club to be done the line. That laid off position is just to weak. 2 things this time. Get to work!

Paul is it possible to have the arms and wrists too loose? I can fire my lower body really quick but I almost feel like my arms aren’t keeping up with my body and I push fade ball. I don’t want to help my arms keep up by swinging them as that’s not the correct way. I feel like if I could time my arms with by body better I could generate really power as I am flexible and can fire my hips hard. Any tips? I think I’ve maybe jumped in at the deep end too quick going full power without building it up slow to get the timing better or I may be hanging back to much when I fire the body I think.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
If you only speed up the body of course you're going to blow it right. So the first thing you need to do is roll the wrists from the top and hit 10 hooks in a row. This speeds up the release. Now you can drive the lower harder to straighten it out. If you blow it right do it again. Do this but early: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtFnp5yqramzXX0.html Here are the drills (wrists): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g55ma7SkudKrpGg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJOeerBn3rSbaWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r651qZp4nsCZXWQ.html Remember to roll it from the top to get it hooking. Forget direction. You only care about the spin. Once you can hook it then start firing your lower body to straighten it out. Watch the ball. If you keep pull/pull hooking it you need to fire sooner. Blow it right again that is too hard. When you hit it straight you memorize how much lower it took then keep firing at this level.

Paul, you touched on my issue in another video, my issue I will call “white ball syndrome”. I can take a very nice smooth practice swing, but when the ball is there there’s something in my brain that tells me just to hit the ball, not swing the club, any insight?
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Yours and most everyone else's issue too. Here is the video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNt_fdunxJiWeJ8.html This is why my teaching is different. I give precise positioning so you know where point B is in your swing. So you swing from point A to point B knowing the ball is going to be hit. I don't really give it all away here but I have taught that way since 1991. You are making a movement knowing the ball will be hit: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/na-gZ8yXsNu-eas.html

Thanks for the support. I truly appreciate it. To get this faster you need to be doing daily practice swings. A few key moves and you've got it. Grip and setup. Hinge/rehinge. Then coil/uncoil. If you have my Body Swing product then you need to be hitting the positions precisely. Do this in a mirror. Start with 25 reps per day. This will lead to 100 or more. With my stuff you do not need to hit balls. The ball is the problem.
