Today I'm reviewing "Hit Man," a romantic black comedy film produced and directed by Richard Linklater, who co-wrote the screenplay with Glen Powell, based on the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth. The film stars Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, and Retta.

I loved this movie! Says something about today’s Hollywood that this fell to Netflix. Want to see this on the big screen with the NOLA vibes. Reminded me of the Big Easy flick from years back. Linklater is my favorite director (not the best but my favorite). I hear your criticism about the beginning (agree) and the end (don’t agree). It worked for me and enjoyed how the ending and that kitchen table seen with the kids. More of this adult, sexy, smart and funny stuff - please!! Side note - RIP Jerry West. 😢

The movie was funny with great customs work. The writing is horrifyingly unethical, the narrative fully sides with an entrapping self righteous hypocrite and gives him an idealic suburb ending for hiding a murder as well as murdering someone himself. The phone scene was a great idea, though the writing didnt know how to close it that well, the police listening in would find his wording weird by the end, its an excuse to increase the romantic tension but it deflates the stakes. The movie really seems to think that if we dont like the person its fine to kill them, which would be fine if Gary’s monolog’s werent so self justifying the whole movie. Gary’s writing is trying to portray him as a nerd who learns its alright to kill people if theyre in your way and are of a type of person society hates at the moment. Which is realistic for some Nietzsche fans but surrounded by a sort of serious tone is a troubling idea
