Did you know that you can hit wedges to get your golf swing timing back? That's right, the shortest clubs in your bag can help you get your rhythm.
Most of us can't wait to get out of the cold and hit balls in the spring. Then we run to the range and start pounding drivers but that is not the best way to get your swing back. As a matter of fact, it might even do more harm than good.
The best way is to start slowly with the shortest clubs in your bag. I usually warm up more and spend at least seventy-five percent of my practice hitting wedges to get back in golf shape.
I also use training aids to make sure I am practicing perfectly. Here is a link to the training aids you see in this video including the Single Plane Trainer for working on swing positions and the Alignment and Ball Position Trainer for ensuring proper ball position and stance width.

Todd, your videos are wonderful! You have a great teaching ability. I am a geezer at 71 years. Man, it seemed like yesterday that I started playing this great game. What I have found is that I have arthritis, a midsize grip that has some grip to it, built in, has helped me as I do not have to try and grip the club hard to hold it firmly. One of the best things I have done to up grade my game! Also after 26 years I dumped my old clubs and have gotten some new clubs. irons and a new driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. I have never needed a 5 wood up until now. So, for those that are adding age to their game, getting older does not mean lying down and quitting. Maybe look into some new equipment that may suit your physical being to help you go out and play! Oh yeah, watch Todd's videos! Thanks Todd for sharing Moe's and your knowledge!

Todd: I'm studying your videos, all of which are top-notch. I'm 65 years old and was once a single-digit handicap, but over the years I have lost the ability to turn and make consistent contact. So I've decided it's Moe's and your single-plane swing or nothing. I've yet to try it, but I plan to start tomorrow. I'm so tired of hitting it fat-thin-fat-thin, with no consistency on the golf course when all my "good" practice disappears when the bell rings on No. 1 tee, and my mind races all over the place wondering where I can find a swing that will work that day. You make it look so very easy. I'm sure it's not, but I'm gonna give it a try.

One thing I find difficult is adjusting to using the SPS with wedges. With a driver the move from position 0-1, transitioning into a flexed knee etc seems so intuitive. I can visualise what I'm doing. I know the biomechanics pretty well. However with a wedge I kind of get disoriented and have doubts about my set up and positions. It just doesn't feel right. Is this a common problem?

Hi Todd I just purchased an almost new set of Cleveland CBX irons and wedges..I am intetested in your Graves Golf grips but not sure if they would be what I am used to given the fact I was using a Mid Range size grip..what can I expect if I were to pickup a set for my new irons. Just a question...Is there a way of getting one grip as a sample to see if they are fit for me? Let me know what it would take. Thank you.

Hello Todd- Did Moe hit balls 365 or during the winter season and if not how was his timing or purity after hitting inactivity? I am assuming with his talent he could take off a month or period of time and his first hits would be pure.
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 4 жыл бұрын
When Moe began playing golf for a living, he would travel to Florida in the winter. When I met him he would rarely hit balls unless I was with him or at a clinic although he played a few holes daily. But yes, his technique was so sound that his timing would come back from inactivity very quickly.

Hey Todd, I have recently joined SPS as a Silver member and I have already watched most of the videos there. Wonderful instruction and I'm totally committed to emulating Moe's swing. I'm a little confused about the address position as it pertains to wedge shots. I thought that Moe said in one of the videos that he let his hands just drop down at address for wedges (like traditional swing position) as opposed to the high position taught at SPS. Is this correct?
@ToddGravesGolf
@ToddGravesGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Rob. This makes sense since a wedge is shorter however the club will still align with the arms in a single plane the grip doesn’t change the club just has a more upright plane which of course the ball is closer to you therefore it feels more straight down almost conventional. But don’t confuse conventional golf with a Single Plane Golf Academy stance of the proper hand position and the body tilt etc. also keep in mind with a wedge the stance is more narrow.

@@ToddGravesGolf Thanks Todd for the confirmation and your quick response. My immediate challenge is figuring out the best way to video my swing. I totally buy into your comment that "Feeling Right Doesn't make it Right". Subjectivity by definition isn't objective. Real objective feedback by video, mirror or coach makes complete sense to me. Maybe you and Tim could put together a video on options for setting up video recordings? Or maybe I'm complicating this a tad (my tendency) and maybe my cell phone recording would be sufficient?

@Todd - Nice range session. Really like the divot patch. 14:29 - A small amount of butt drift off the back line, but no flipping, plane and rotation look real good. May I ask what wedges you're trying out? Agree 100% about consistency, because that's what dials in the yardages, especially into greens. I also think there's too much focus on BIG distance with the driver, especially considering the USGA and R&A just came out today and said so to that effect. The art of golf is not just about distance.

I too am using PING i20 irons & wedges, irons are purple dots, wedges are orange dot....having a hard time finding a good used 58*....plenty of standard black dot ones out there, very few orange dot lie angles! @@SurprizedDaily Regarding Lie angles on wedges. Most of the time, I am choking down on my sand wedge / lob wedge - shortening the club. So I don't want the wedges to bee too flat. As B. Vokey said, 'most the time when we use such wedges our bodies are lower', hence the need for a flatter lie, which you make up for by gripping down! Same outcome, best I can tell? How do you start with your club behind the ball and leave a divot in front of the ball
@ToddGravesGolf

Where you start and where you impact are very different. The body position at impact is much more rotated (open) which allows the hands to lead - allowing your club to decent, taking a divot.
