Have you ever considered engineering the golf swing backward from the most important moment of the golf swing - Impact. This would be considered reverse engineering the swing.
This is exactly why the Single Plane Golf Swing is easier because the positions of the SPS are the perfect positions to achieve impact perfectly - with the least amount of rotation and movement.
About the Single Plane Golf Swing
Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

To start learning the Single Plane golf swing, I produced a pocket guide that you can take to the golf course or the range. You can pick up a pocket guide here: SwingPocketGuide.com.

@@ToddGravesGolf Hi Todd I’m coming back to playing the game after a 25 year lay off. I used to be a 3 handicap but I’m having a hard time swinging like I used to due to getting older and less time to practice. Would you recommend trying to learn the single plane swing for consistency and longevity in being able to play and also what type of irons do you recommend, my old blades are not the clubs for me I’m sure lol. Thanks Scott

Here's a day #1 progress report. I've watched a bunch of your vids on the Moe Nelson single-plane style. Went to the range today. Hit a large bucket of balls using only a 5-iron. Every shot was straight except 3. Sure I was thick or thin on contact much of the time but the point is the ball went toward the target. Hope is wasn't a fluke. To be continued...

I think I’m a great candidate to adopt this swing concept. I have always struggled because of the difference between set up and impact. Makes zero sense to me that we would get set up and aimed in an address position but then not strive to get back to that position at impact. I always set up much more like you are showing us here. My problem is that I’m similar but I’ve been still addressing my ball with my club head up at the ball, either directly behind or off the toe. I’ve been struggling with consistency like crazy the past year or so, and I shank my wedges out of no where. I played TN National on Friday and dropped an eagle on a par 4 from a fairway bunker 82 yards out, but still shot a 90 from the whites. I’m a 9 handicap, 6.3 was my lowest a little over a year ago. A month ago I was 1 under at the turn then walked off the 17th tee and went home because I was 14 over by that point. (I was playing by myself, didn’t leave a group).

Absolutely. Side bend is crucial. The difference between a fat or thin strike or a pure strike.

Tilt first, back arm limit rotation. Those are key. Very good step by step breaking down and into that single plane swing. Consistency through repeat swings and ball contacts in practice. Then get into when swing is more comfortable, increase speed coming back down off the slow back takeaway. Nice!

Where on the straight stick is the magnet oriented on the shaft, to hold the magnet ring that releases to give you the click. That magnet must need a very specific alignment on the shaft for the SS to work properly. Where do you recommend it to be?

The perfect impact position is a little different with wedges, in sand, in deep rough, irons, hybrids, fairway drivers and driver. A lot of that correction comes from where you position the ball at address, from forward with driver to further back with wedges.

Impact Position is the same. Ball position moves with the stance width. Other than driver ball is 5” inside lead heel

Hey Todd! I found your videos on KZfaq and I am really excited about starting this. I am in good shape physically, good weigh, etc….But I just turned 67. Is it too late to teach an old dog new tricks after 40 years of trying to figure this game out? I am laid up right now with a left shoulder injury (from golf😀) but looking forward to working on this during winter. BTW….I bought your book and can’t put it down!!! Thanks for your thoughts and advice. I am a subscriber and watch your videos every day!

Allan. Thanks for your interest in the Single Plane Swing and all that I teach. Your questions is understandable - "Can I make the change and how long will it take?" I have found the answer to reflect a quote from Peter Drucker, who said, “What gets measured gets improved.” So the answer comes down to a question, "Will you practice correctly?". That is why I developed the M-O-M process which stands for Model, Order, Measure. Matching the Single Plane Model, Practicing in the correct Order (based on the most important thing) and Measuring your result. This is the foundation of the Single Plane Academy.

Moe hit a 1000 balls a day. Did the same swing and practiced a single club everyday, all the time. Repeated stroke over and over again a thousand times. Anyone who does that should be able to repeat their good swing every time.

Anyone who develops a skill practiced all the time to master their skill. Moe was no exception. Here is the question you might find more reasonable to ask. What did Moe discover after thousands of hours of practice? What if you copied him? Maybe that would be a shortcut.

You mention 30° of torso rotation. Are the shoulders still square to the target at impact? Or are they slightly open? Or do they match the torso?

Not for a single shot but perhaps on average over many shots if you factor in mishits vs someone else with a greater reliance on timing.

If you measure the distance from your toes to the trainer are they the same distance? Looks like you lead foot is a little farther.

The Alignment trainer is not UNIFORM, in other words, it is smaller at the front side of the trainer and larger in the back to allow for the radius of the swing relative to club length and ball position.
