As an Englishman I'm intrigued how they were founded 101 years ago, have never looked like winning the league yet have finished 2nd in recent seasons and are currently top of the league, running away with it with over half the season gone. Well, this issue is not limited to only China, but football across Asia usually sees authoritarian states or incompetent federations weaponising their financial muscles at the fullest, unless being sanctioned or isolated like North Korea and Iran, or too corrupt like Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. Just in 2022 alone, Saudi clubs spent more than 800 million dollars to buy lavish football superstars. Qatar and the UAE also buy ton of superstars for their own greed of popularity and short-lived fame. In Thailand, under the authoritarian junta, the Thais sought to accelerate their bids for big names buying, betraying the previous pillar of youth development of former FAT President Worawi Makudi. In Kazakhstan, an Asian member with UEFA membership, the country spends very little money on improving footballers but rather trying to make propaganda about their UEFA benefit despite inability to produce world class footballers. And many more cases in Asia, from Uzbekistan, Kuwait, Vietnam, Indonesia, for examples. China just helped us to see how mismanaged is Asian football. Ironically, the only successful Asian football nations are the ones who spend less on lavish buying. Japan and South Korea are examples of how they spend less on buying football stars but successfully strengthened their football clubs and teams. Australia, which has AFC membership, may also be counted, though football is the only fourth largest sport in Australia and has only built a football culture for 20 years. Yet they were the ones to reach the round of sixteen in World Cup and not the lavishly spending and arrogant Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

If you think that Australia has only built football culture for the past 20 years, you have it very wrong. Football has always been viewed in Australia as something that brings communities together, especially those who immigrated from Europe. Australia's biggest historical clubs were all founded by immigrants. Melbourne Knights and Sydney United 58 are Croatian. South Melbourne is Greek. Marconi Stallions and Brisbane City are Italian. My local top flight club, Brisbane Roar, traces its roots to Hollandia Inala, a local Dutch club. So yes, Australia has built football culture in the last 20 years, but that's the thing, it feels manufactured

We (Australia) are forced to slowly build our league up without relying on big foreign talent because of how they league works. We have salary caps and off memory one signing that can "exceed the norm" each. Not only to stop a city/chelsea situation should/could it arise but yeah.. so our players can actually have a chance to develop unlike China for example and if they're looking promising a plan trip to Europe or even Japan or the K-league could come. I'd also put it 3rd in popularity now but that's debatable
@luishernandezblonde

CSL in 2018: This league is ridiculous, it's quite literally stealing some of the biggest names from Europe and it could be worse in the coming decade. Heck, they're even starting to add some of the uncapped players to the Chinese national team. CSL in 2023: The league is on the verge of collapse, the biggest names have left, Oscar wants to leave, Fellaini is still there for some odd reason and China lost to Vietnam.

Hey Alfie, I'm a big fan of your stuff! I've got a video idea but it's more of a question really. Cristiano Ronaldo has left every club he has played for in a worse league standing than he found them in his first season there. His leaving has always coincided with the strikers around him performing better. Yet he's clearly incredibly talented. To what extent is it fair to judge him? By what metric is he a good player if he doesn't really contribute to a teams success?

Alfie, you should play at Nostradamus and do a video predicting the next 7-YEARS of the English game and 70-YEARS of the world game using such failed leagues, extinct clubs, and the ongoing corruption of football across all levels and institutions to see what conclusions you arrive at, the predictions taking on a parody and satire of the present and past state of football. Personally, my predictions for the next 7-years of the English pyramid will see the consolidation of minor clubs and cities within the Premiership as reform within England sees the game receive its first top level revision in over 150-years as lessons from VAR and such other technologies evolve the game to its highest ever level to the present ahead of eSports explosive growth within football alongside the classic game and its many variations establishing further links between communities and clubs truly making the beautiful game a global carnival/circus for the ages. Globally, African and Asian World Cup winners coming in the next few decades without a doubt, and possibly a North American nation winning it, too will mean that with virtually all continents being Champions and Australia knocking on that same door, inside 70-years the European financial monopoly will be a distant and embarrassing memory as the integrity of the game is won back along its credibility from the clutches of capitalism and is returned to the people as once giants and unknowns compete consistently elevating the game everywhere. Brazil and Italy will win more cups, too, with France still favorites to the become the de factor world factory of footballers as they have too great a head start on everyone else NOT TO dominate for the next three, maybe more decades, and while they won’t win everything, we will probably get tired of seeing France in the top 3/4 with the sort of consistency that sees Mbappe collect Ballon D’Ors followed by more French nationals over the next two decades in Messi and Ronaldo-saque fashion. Oh, and City and PSG might NOT win the European Cup neither with Napoli going on to win the next 5 matching Madrid’s early years dominance. lol
