The 'base building" element is what Hitman games were always missing. I also love the idea of being a Hitman choosing my contracts instead of following a set storyline of missions.

It’s okay, not really my thing, but it is neat to go around looking at some of the things. I do love how it accommodates different play styles while keeping the need to stay stealthy in some parts of the game

Always use your instinct when around safes, it will highlight any and all clues to open it. There are also optional special golden objectives that have you using an explosive to open the safe for a good chunk of change. edit: The Kalmer/Seeker guns are dart guns and either will count towards the "poison target/guard" objectives. Sometimes it will specify dart gun, ingested or injected poison, but if it's the dart gun or generic poison those guns count towards the objectives
@nathanharrison2

also a note to add to this, if you have perfect shooter and miss, it counts towards failing that. they wont fail no firearms however if you have perfect shooter at the same time, failing that will fail no firearms because of a game check in the background they havent fixed

Been playing a lot of this mode. Its really fun. A couple of things to note to help you: 1) the third clue for the safe is highlighted in instinct and usually is in either the same room or an adjacent room (although I've struggled many times to find the third one). 2) Your explosives, poisons and tools don't despawn after you complete a syndicate, they despawn when you fail a syndicate (there is nothing sadder than losing your only silenced pistol and every bit of equipment when you fail a syndicate) Also I've had the same target in Berlin that glitched out except for me he flew up to the top floor of the level and started walking around in the air which made for a laugh.

This feels a little bit like the devs were like "We built all these systems and made them feel really great to play and then the normal gameplay loop disincentivizes them, so how do we get people to interact with these systems so our work wasn't wasted?"
@trogdor8764
@trogdor8764 Жыл бұрын
That's how a lot of stealth games are. Deus ex is the same way: you play the "correct" way, sneaking around, avoiding setting off alarms, and using only nonlethal means to defeat enemies, which earns you more xp, which then gets wasted because most of the things you can spend XP on are 1) loud and 2) lethal. And of course, you don't get to use most of the game's weapons either.
@joppekim
@joppekim Жыл бұрын
I can understand why the devs would have thought this. You have so many tools and weapons but usually bring with you the silent ones. I've never felt the need to bring with me an assault rifle on a mission until now.

I've been refreshing my feed every day just waiting for this to pop up and finally it's here! I'm loving the mode, since while the main missions are very beautifully crafted, there's only so many times you can replay them in fresh ways and this just takes those levels and makes them infinitely replayable. It's brutally hard and I've ragequitted more campaigns than I'd like to admit but it's so addicting I just can't stop, lol. All in all very fun and I hope IOI continues to support and improve the mode alongside the 007 game :)

I was so glad to see this pop up in my feed. I've been having a wonderful time with Freelancer, and I'm glad to see that Jon gave it a shot and loved it. It's the most refreshing thing that's happened to Hitman since the World of Assassination trilogy began. I hope I see Jon do more with this! Also, I'm seeing quite a few pieces of advice here that are good, but I want to make an amendment to one of them: in regard to the safes, it's not just the third clue that's highlighted in instinct; all of them are. Once I figured that out, there isn't a safe I haven't been able to open. Just make sure you're using instinct, and everything should fall into place!

@trautsj

I dunno, this mode isn't for me. I personally find the stealth assassination puzzles to be the FUN in Hitman and is 100% why I play it. Not to just shoot people. 5k other games allow you to just shoot people, that's not what Hitman is. This mode is strange to me and killing people in Hitman seems fun at first but it loses its appeal pretty fast IMHO. Piecing together the clues of why the target is there and how they interact with the setting and other targets was what made Hitman great to me...
@Nouxatar
@Nouxatar Жыл бұрын
@@trautsj I get that, but it really does need to be acknowledged that this game mode still accommodates this sort of play style, and arguably even more playstyles than pure stealth or pure brutality. Silent Assassin prestiges, for example, are incredibly plentiful, and give you a way to be rewarded for what the base game likes, and even adds the challenge of permanence.

@@bscar what they are talking about is the game mode itself. combining the trilogy has been the standard from the start and they are just renaming the trilogy itself. when it went to steam you got all the maps if you paid enough. just wish they offered a refund when they started giving the rest of the maps out for free

Freelancer is my favorite mode of Hitman and maybe my favorite mode of any game ever. My favorite part of Hitman has always been laying plans that are structured, but adaptable, planning out my hits as well as I can but having a knack for what to do when things go wrong. Having more to plan around than just Silent Assassin is everything I wanted, and the level of adaptability that Freelancer requires is genuinely so exciting. I'll be honest, I've seen a lot of people say that Freelancer made them realize how bad they were at the game, but it actually did the opposite for me?? It's made me realize just how well I've come to understand the game's systems and mechanics throughout both playing it and looking at content for it, and while I certainly don't know EVERYTHING and I'm still learning what interesting things this game has in place, I'm... actually pretty good at Hitman? Not the best or anywhere near by any means, but I feel better about my abilities as an assassin in this mode than I ever have just playing the main game.

that security guard in berlin on the balcony was set up perfectly for one of the most over the top accident kills in all the games. you can remove restrictions on the pyrotechnics, and take out one of the DJs, then take over as the DJ, and control the beat, and when you see him on the bridge, drop the bass and it will electrocute him and light the big tree on fire.
