It’s 50 degrees celsius, extremely hot weather for a sailor in full combat gear on the bridge of HMCS Iroquois. The Iroquois is a tribal class destroyer with state of the art tracking systems and the weaponry required to be the flagship for CTF 150. Today, the crew are in flat jackets and helmets as it navigates the warship from the narrow Bab el Mandeb Strait. The geographical chokepoint has the dubious distinction of being one of the most dangerous waterways on the planet. Translated from Arabic, Bab el Mandeb means the Gate of Tears
A powerful naval task group has sailed east from ports in Canada to one of the most lawless maritime regions in the world: the Persian Gulf. As a part of a six-part HD documentary series, we follow the daily events and real-life stories of the brave men and women living and working to keep these warships running at a 100%.

The Iroquois predecessor's, the steamers, had two 75 ton AC units so 50 degrees Celsius would still have you snuggle up to your blanket, I sailed on HMCS Restigouche and when we tied up in Manilla in the height of Summer below decks was always just sublime, open a door to the outside and you get hit with a brick of heat, crew comfort is a must on any Warship temperature wise.

Now the other frigates went on extended refits so rhe old Restigouche classes are done and the Canadian government is still trying to figure out how and when they are going to start the new ships and they are fiddling around,Gerry my husband said he will be dead before the new ship's will be going to see

The covers are wrong for the Middle East, especially on the sea. The best head gear for that part of the world would be the kaffiyah, which drapes cotton down to the shoulders and goes around the back for shade. It can also cover the face for relected sun protection. Hats with headbands built-in, like these boonies or ball caps, keep heat in the head.

A helicopter is an aircraft so the air force who specialize in maintaining and flying aircraft would be the logical choice for that role. Why even have an air force if the army, navy, marines have their own?. The US military is a good example of a million tools that can only do one thing each vs the one tool that can do everything those million tools can do. my dad was giving rations to American tank men stranded on the side of the road for 3 days in Afghanistan. They had a broken track and had to wait for mechanic to come and fix it, meanwhile them explaining that my dad fixed the track and sent them on their way why doesn't the US army teach its tank operators how to do simple repairs? the Taliban were probably waiting to kill the tank crew, the repair crew, and their infantry escort. so in answering why doesn't the Royal Canadian Navy have its own aviation detachment is like asking why the air force doesn't have its own ships, its simple its not their job to worry about ships the air force focus on aircraft the navy focuses on ships and subs the army focuses on soldiers and vehicles.

Google the attack on the USS Cole. Off the coast of Yemen a "little fishing boat" almost sunk the Bruke class destroyer. That's why they are well prepared!

During the time of that filming 3 soldiers feelings has been wounded with passive aggressive behavior, 1 personal pronoun was not respected and 5 safe zones were ignored. But despite all of that Canada decided to keep its army for one more year (they had to train the CCP army)...

Still one of the best trained armies in the world. Did a lot of heavy lifting in the Ghan. Spent 34 years basically as the national police in Cypress. Peacekeeping all over the world. RCAF planes and their pilots were so well trained they were the only fighters in all of NATO to carry nuclear tipped missiles all the time.

Did I hurt your feelings? I actually served in the military for one year. I was based in Germany at the end of the cold war. I didn't do much, but that's probably more than you ever did...
