@@conversationclasses Actually, in this video, Lara covers a song written in 1973 by Serge Lama, a french singer (music composed by Alice Dona, another french singer) and this song talks about a true part of his life and a secret love he had with a woman who is gone away. He talked about this to his friend Alice Dona and told her, this situation hurts me and really makes me sick ! Back home, she composed a music inspired by those feelings and afterwards, he wrote the lyrics that could best describe his state of mind ! And that's the story of this song that you can hear covered here so well by Lara. When it comes out in 1973, it has been one of the biggest success for Serge Lama.

That "c'est ça" after the a cappella chorus is so visceral, so poignant. And yet most reactors miss it because they are talking about the a cappella. That to me is, along with the final 17 secs note, the strongest moment of this Master Class performance.

Hello there! Thank you for this nice and professional reaction! As a trained singer myself I truly appreciate your inputs and observations about both the song and the artist. Lara is a living legend, a true icon and thanks to Dimash and all the Dimash Dears she is more famous now than ever before. I've been her devoted fan since 1995! She is not as known in the US, but a living legend pretty much everywhere in Europe, Canada, Asia and most part of South America. I can honestly say that Lara is in a league of her own. She has no equal. I grew up idolizing Barbra Streisand (so is Lara) and Edith Piaf. I started to sing because of them and I was convinced that nobody could reach their level. Then in 1995 I saw a talk show when I was visiting a friend in Montreal. Lara was a guest, promoting her new album 'Carpe Diem'. At the end of the segment the host asked Lara to sing the famous cover that made all the buzz even before the album came out. That song was 'Je suis Malade'. Till this day I remember clearly the shock, the disbelief and complete awe that I felt during that performance. At the end of the final note I was in a thrall, breathless and tears were running down on my face. 26 years later I still feel the same when I watch Lara perform. There are many songs that stands out from Lara's 30 years long career and a few of them are already listed below by my fellow Lara Fans.. If you truly want to know why is that Lara is so special, so above all the rest I would like to suggest that you react to these 4 live performances listed below in 4 different genres: rock, jazz, Broadway musical and opera. 'Requiem Pour un Fou' - 'Requiem for a Madman' An iconic duet with the legendary Johnny Hallyday back in 1998 in a pouring rain, in front of 80.000 fans (including myself) in the Stade de France. This is Lara's Rock Goddess side. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLhhpc6lxJbGmXU.html 'Dites-Moi Pourqoui Je'laime' - 'Tell Me Why Do I Love Him?' This is Lara's Jazz Magician side. Oh, she did that sitting on a chair...kind of... you'll see what I mean. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y55lh5Cat53Ilpc.html 'Extrait de Yentl' - A medley from Babs' famous Yentl. This is Lara's Broadway Queen side. These songs are my benchmark for rating female artist. I dare to declare that Lara reached beyond her own idol that night. Oh, btw her parents were in the audience that night and she sang these songs to honor them on their 30th wedding anniversary! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nN2ihZx3ysiUm5s.html 'La Traviata' This is Lara's Classical side. Yup, she sings opera too! Oh, did I mention that she is classically trained in a conservatorium for 10 years? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5yCn62ctJ-taaM.html

Amazing reaction. Welcome to the Fabian Fanatics Club! 🤣 This was my gateway drug to her. I was stunned. "what?! Who?! WHAT?! WHO IS THIS?!" I've only grown to admire her more the more I've delved into her work. This was actually a cover of a Serge Lama song that she tweaked pretty significantly to make her own. In fact, Serge Lama started to incorporate the a cappella section in his own performances as far as I can tell after she did came up with that bit of tweaking. She's fluent and writes songs in French, English, Italian and Spanish. Sings very competently according to native speakers in 12. Her two greatest obsessions, I hear, are proper enunciation/pronunciation for whatever language she's singing in and breath control. I've come to think of her as something of a vocal chameleon: a technical master who uses all the many tools in her tool box to get at the emotional core of each piece. Story is everything to her. Calls herself a "singer with a voice." Scientific research says we get goosebumps when we are surprised by something. Yet, no matter how many times I see any of her performances, I still get goosebumps. How does she keep surprising me? It's a mystery. I hope to see more Fabian reaction from you. I learned some good things. 🖖🏽

Correcting my brain melt: she calls herself a *songwriter* with a voice. I think that is why she is so good at analyzing songs she covers and coming up with phrasing that is both unique and brutally effective. Something you said really caught my attention when you talked about her ability to have such forward placement but also use the throat. I think this must be what I am trying to get at when I've described her singing as "cathedral-wide open and ringing." I only have a thimbleful of training from childhood. I only know that as a contralto daughter of a trained contralto basso, Fabian is the ONLY soprano who hits my aural net like velvet, even when she's belting an A5. It sort of fascinates me and I wish I understood it better. Even though she's classed as a full lyric (spent 10 yrs in conservatory), the texture and color remind me of a Deluxe 120 box of Crayola crayons that I'd associate more with a Sarah Vaughan than a Celine Dion if that makes sense. Anyway, thanks again. Until next time. 👋🏽

Sorry, but Dimash is similar to Lara, not the other way around. Lara was first, Dimash tried to emulate Lara, and Lara was his Muse! Just to put things straight! P.S. Someone recommended me to listen to Dimash AFTER I got to know Lara: honestly, I listened to ONE Dimash song and I NEVER LISTENED TO HIM AGAIN, simply because LARA IS THE REAL THING: she never tries to force the song by showcasing her range like Dimash does - she always surrenders her singing abilities to the story to be conveyed and thereby SHE BECOMES THE SONG, without an Ego. Dimash, however, is a very Egoistic singer, which is an enormous difference between him and her. Lara sings in a FLOW, while Dimash sings from his Ego!

Thank you for the reaction! Great points! This want entertainment ; it was heartbreak set to music and a showcase of vocal excellence! Dimash seems to have taken expression and acting from Lara (as well as some stage-craft from Michael Jackson and others to be honest) but I daresay Lara is the absolute queen of naked, vulnerable emotional expression. She lives the lyrics. She's willing to sing "ugly" and broken up to express the actual feelings (yet very musically), staying at the very cliff's edge of breaking down emotionally yet never falling over! I also appreciate your saying the crowd could have given a moment of silence to acknowledge Laura's raw feelings and the (entirely unresolved) story of the character in the song. So much to say about this one song.

You know she's half italian and there is a song called Caruso. It's in italian and a little bit in napolitan. For me it's the most beautiful song ever created. Thank you for your reaction. I was very eager to check reactions to this famous interpretation by Lara Fabian, especially from vocal coaches, and you are the first one to notice how she stays in the mood of the song at the end, while the crowd is already cheering her. I am not a singer, but I think this final phase partly explains why her intrepretation is so emotional. She is not performing a song; she is expressing her emotions. And these emotions are present from the very beginning of the introduction. I am under the impression that the piano helps her in getting into the mood. Notice her small breath juste before her first notes. She is about to share her feelings; and that's not the piano that tells her when to start. The piano pauses, she takes a small breath, she is now ready to tell us her story. Of course, the technique is undeniable; and in my opinion the way she uses her voice, her instrument, is pretty smilar to the way dancers express their feelings with their body. For me, it's comparable to an intrepretation of the dying swan at the end of the Swan Lake…

Incredible reaction and vocal analysis! You should definitely consider reacting to « You’re Not From Here » as well as « Adagio » from the same concert. There are so many other performances from her that are worth watching, but for me, these are ones of the best!

thank you for your honest reaction. Your reaction was me the first time i listen this song. It is amazing that you still give your best professional opinion while being amazed by her (i would have shut down completely). Contrary to most people nowadays that found her thru Dimash, i have been listening her for 20 years and still can't get my head around how stellar this performance was. She is now 50 years old and still sound amazing like this. I really hope you can see her Adagio, Caruso, and many other from her, because listening to her voice is an experience. I hope you have a great day and new sub from me 😊

most people didn't find her through Dimash. She's been respected online for about 20 by many fans of music, including in the U.S.She's been around since the 80s and known worldwide since the 90s, though her popularity in the US is limited, that doesn't matter she's still huge.

Lara fabian is just so underrated even though she had a huge career. Mainly because she came in same time as Celine Dion. This is a masterpiece, amazing story teller but it's because she was hurt personally, so she really relates to this tough experience. What you shouldn't be proud of isn't just a gut that hurts a women like that but rather how come you never heard this song although it's over 10 years old I enjoy listening to you Slavic boy

She's my favo artist for more then 20 years now. Seen her several times live and i 've seen a lot of artist live, but she is really from a other level. Even Celine Dion, which is very good, don't get me wrong, can't come to that level. She can drag the audience with her in the emotions, she can make you laugh and cry all in the same evening and make you go home wondering on what planet you have been and thinking about that evening still days later all the time. This is also a rare artist that, to my humble opinion, is even better live then on her studio recordings. I can only advice everyone to go "experience" her live. And on top, she is a more then very good looking woman. (no influence for my opinion for her, i"m gay, so) She has it all. :D By the way, you're also very handsom, Mr H. ;)

Thank you so much for this video. Lara went through difficult times that she was able to express through this song, which she didn't write. She is THE diva "specialized" in the transmission of emotions, for me. Take a look to "broken vow" for the feelings, or Adagio for a pure power.

This performance comes from a concert called « lara with love » which is so amazing. And in the DVD version of the concert, there is short interviews before each songs. The concert was in Canada and I think that most of her audience were english speakers. Before this song, she says something like « i don't believe that a language will limit an emotion. there's not a specific language to say something that comes from the heart », and it is exaclty what she did with this song. The lyrics (written by Serge Lama btw) are super rich and deep and Lara understands this lyrics perfectly I think (she is a great songwritter herself). But even when you don't understand french, you understand the song, you understand the infinite sadness and disgust there is in this song, cause Lara is such an amazing performer. Of course when you understand french you get the whole experience, but it isn't necessary to understand the essence of the song This concert is one of her best concerts, and I love Lara so much, she is my comfort singer honestly and I love watching video reactions of her performances like yours (I really really appreciate that you really got interested and the lyrics as well)

This song reminds me so much of ne me quitte pas; even the first few chords of the verse are the same, and the way the words are sung is almost identical. Her performance is so incredible… I loved the recorded version, it has a whole certain vibe to it. Then I looked and found this live performance and I was blown away all over again as if it were a new song. It’s amazing how a live unadulterated vocal performance is so timeless. The thought of the an audience being silent with her for a few seconds, even 10 seconds would be an eternity, is fascinating. It would multiply the effect of the song. As you said it’s really something else that she can continue to be in the song even though the audience is already back in the real world.

Merci 🙂 Amazing and talented singer! Thank for your comments and reaction on her performance. Lara is a story teller. One of a kind! Mind blowing. You should react to her version of Adagio of the same concert. 🙂 Greetings from Paris 🇫🇷

@H of The Stage Hello, Thanks for this reaction to a French song so incredible. All person who've feel one time in his/her life what's described here have a chance to cry in listening this song. Because never has a song described so well what it feels like to be separated from a person you love and how it eats you every second of your life. So much so that it completely fills you, and, paradoxically, so much does it empty you at the same time. And how much it's toxic. As this song is taken from a true story, I can imagine the very cruel irony it was for the lyrics author and first performer of this song to actually hear words of his song on the radio, when he still suffered from the lack of the loved one of whom this song was about, a sort of mirror reflection effect in the mirror and which thus multiplies the image to infinity. What a paradox for him this happiness to hear that his song was broadcast on the radio, then was even masterfully covered (first by Dalida, later and still better by Lara in this video) and at the same time which brought him back to this person whom he still secretly loved and from whom he was separated. To have also predicted it in the lyrics of the song is absolutely incredible and at the same time the mark of genius. Fortunately, fairy tales can sometimes be transposed to real life, since Serge Lama found this woman he loved so much ten years later. That they got together. That they had a baby boy and that they lived together until the end of her life (72 yrs). Serge Lama is old now (78 yrs) and I wish him the more long life it can be. But I already can say that thanks to this song and all this reaction videos across entire World (and so thanks to internet), he's entered in World song History and for that will be never forgotten and Lara with, of course... Amitiés from South France,

Hi, You have to keep in mind that this is not an original song from Lara but from Serge Lama who wrote it in the 70's... He was a genius of Lyrics... Lara showed and bring this treasure of French song to a whole new level. She add her emotion, sensitivity and interpretation into this powerfull words.

Wonderful reaction! Lara Fabian did her job. She is a superb storyteller, gifted with a beautiful, rich voice. She knows how to evoke her audience's emotion by performing emotionally. She made you believe that she has lived the story she is telling. But here's the kicker: she has done this over and over again (as many times as she has performed this song. Do you realize how extremely difficult it is to do that? Convincingly?? In my mind - a sign of a true artiste. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😀
